Nyssa | 2023 comments I've read A Tree Grows in Brooklyn and the Harry Potter series. Both are in my top favorites!

I've watched Holes, which I enjoyed, but I have never read the book.

And this is the 3rd time this week I've seen a recommendation for The Bell Jar, which would be completely new to me.

Chris Haught (haughtc) | 2450 comments Of course Harry Potter...

But wow, was surprised to see Columbine on the list. I really enjoyed found myself engaged with that one. It was very well written. Not a fun read, but totally absorbing. The audiobook was fantastic too.

colleen the convivial curmudgeon (blackrose13) | 2976 comments Harry Potter's the only one on that list I've read.

Archimedes Grimm | 11 comments I know what you mean. I've only read HP and Holes. Was surprised at how many on the list I hadn't heard of!

Jenny (jennyc89) | 63 comments I've read the Harry Potter series, The Bell Jar, & Holes. So many more to read!

Sinistmer | 212 comments I wasn't familiar with some of the titles either. I second (third?) The Harry Potter series, and I really enjoyed Redefining Realness: My Path to Womanhood, Identity, Love & So Much More and Eleanor & Park. I'd be really curious to know who the audience of the list is: bibliophiles? Someone looking for a book to engage someone who doesn't normally read?

My mother loves A Tree Grows in Brooklyn; one of these days, I should read it.

Cheryl (cherylllr) I'm assuming the "make you fall in love" is aimed at non-readers... we can use the list to evangelize.

And the "first" is apparently 'first that'll you choose, that you'll enjoy, that you didn't have to read for school.' "First" does not mean debut; at least I know off the top of my head that Louis Sachar's first book was not Holes.

Not Sacha. Bad article. Tsk-tsk.
