SOLVED: Adult Fiction > SOLVED. Science Fiction, the book is very old. I guess it was published around 1970-1990 . There are many short stories in it around 10 or more. [s]

SamSpayedPI | 2305 comments There was an annual anthology of "The Year's Best Science Fiction" from 1984 to 2019.

I remember a similar annual anthology of "Hugo Award Winners" but can't seem to find it at the moment. I'll keep checking.

Can you remember any more detail at all? "One story about teleportation" isn't much to go on!

SamSpayedPI | 2305 comments So the other anthology series I was thinking about was The Hugo Winners Series edited by Issac Asimov. They include science fiction and fantasy stories that won Hugo Awards at the World Science Fiction Conventions between 1955 and 1982. It turns out they aren't annual; each volume covers several years.

The Goodreads page is really confusing, so here is the Wikipedia page which lists all five volumes and the stories they contain: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Hug...

Δάφνη, is this book for adults or teens?

Is there a common theme to the short stories?

Andy | 2124 comments Are you sure that all the stories were by different authors. Might it be All the Myriad Ways by Larry Niven, which contains "Exercise in Speculation: The Theory and Practice of Teleportation" All the Myriad Ways

Robert | 173 comments A. C. Clarke also had a short story about teleportation called Travel by Wire!.

SamSpayedPI | 2305 comments Or Isaac Asimov's It's Such a Beautiful Day. Or Think Like a Dinosaur by James Patrick Kelly. Or "Doomship" by Frederik Pohl. Etc, etc. etc.

It's just that there are thousands of short stories about teleportation out there; and almost as many science fiction short story anthologies. Without any plot detail, how can we guess which one you're looking for? Once we have the story, we can find out in which books it has appeared.

Δάφνη, do you remember any plot details about the teleportation story itself? Male or female MC? Did the teleportation device take the characters to different planets, or between a spaceship and a planet like in Star Trek, or did the characters use them just to go to work, school, etc.? Larry Niven, Andy's suggestion, has a number of stories of the last sort (e.g. "Flash Crowd").
