Thank you so much. I am fine. I just got distracted. Again, apologies for the late post.

There is! It's The Space Between Worlds. Two birds, one stone?

Okay, so I asked a question, that was an idiom. And now all I can think of is Darmok and Jalad at Tanagra.

This is my very favorite Star Trek episode across all iterations of the series. TOS through Picard. Temba, his arms wide.

Yes. And it can be adult, youth, or children's.

John Scalzi is a great sci fi writer, especially if you're new to it.

Absolutely. The titles I listed were just a few examples.

Fun. My favorite in that series is Gathering Blue.

Good job!
Good job!

I loved The Giver, too and, like Elizabeth, my favorite of the series was Gathering Blue.

The winner of best sci-fi novel was Project Hail Mary by Andy Weir and best media tie-in novel was a Firefly novel, which might be fun for folks who enjoyed that tv series: Generations There are tons of great nominees too, like Mary Robinette Kowal's The Relentless Moon which is part of her Lady Astronaut series (begins with The Calculating Stars

Indeed. I'm trying to get through Battlefield Earth by L. Ron Hubbard by the end of the month (on audio). It's 44 discs...I'm about half way, and it's about half way through the month...

Good luck! Let us know what you think.

Tanya wrote: "I read Stephen Gould's Jumper. I enjoyed it, but it kind of makes me laugh how much day-to-day stuff has changed in the last 30 years. Like, David makes an excuse about waiting for checks to clear ..." I think now it would have to be something about transaction fees. Or trying to get out of paying tax or something.

Utah Hornbakers wrote: "This has been the toughest challenge for me. Not a genre I read. But I am reading Ready Player One and will get it finished by the end of the month to continue my 2021 Reading Challenge streak."
I'm glad you took on the challenge!

Ooh, I hadn't heard about that one. Sounds good.

One reviewer said it was like part Firefly with a touch of Star Wars and Star Trek scattered in. But it really did have the lighter sense from Fireflay and only humans.

Greg wrote: "Finally finished it!

That's 7/7 challenges on the year!"

My apologies on the delay of this reading challenge. I can't believe it's September. It sneaked up on me.
This month it's all about Science Fiction. You can read something that takes place in a dystopian future like The Devil You Know, you can read something that takes place in space like All Systems Red, you can read something funny like Terminal Alliance or revisit a classic like The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy. (The radio play of this is fantastic, btw, and totally counts! We also have radio plays of the Star Wars series in our collection. Just so you know).
For those of you who enjoy Juvenile Fiction, give Voyage of the Dogs or This is War a try. You can even read tv/movie novel tie ins. Like Imzadi or Rogue Elements. The universe is the limit.
And, if you are enjoying this Science Fiction challenge. Sign up for our Virtual Lecture | How Star Trek Changed the World and Why it Still Matters on Tuesday, September 28 at 7 pm. Visit thecountylibrary.org/LectureSeries to register and learn more about this online event.
