Jennifer H Week 2 ~ Glasses & Wolf

The Sweetest Thing (Lucky Harbor, #2) by Jill Shalvis by Jill Shalvis
2/23/15-4♥

Wife~I let my wife get away...p. 182
Planet~was barely back to planet Earth...p. 272
Glasses~slip her glasses on to read...p. 244
Purple~the purple light of dawn...p. 354
Wolf~letting the big bad wolf in...p. 355

Jill Shalvis has romance and comedy down pat. I loved returning for the second Lucky Harbor book and catching up with the sisters and other characters in town. What I love most about Shalvis's writing is the realistic dialogue and relationships between her characters. Her characters come alive, treat each other the way real people treat each other, and have real issues. She's one of the best when it comes to this! Can't wait for the next Lucky Harbor book!

I quite enjoyed this book. It was a pretty fast read. I liked the characters and the world. It was a different take on the mythology of Heaven and Hell. I'm looking forward to the next book.

Stone Cold Touch (The Dark Elements, #2) by Jennifer L. Armentrout by Jennifer L. Armentrout

Finished: 24/02/15
Rating:5♥

Review:
This is the second book in Jennifer Armentrout's Dark Elements Trilogy and I have to say it has blown book one right out of the water. So much stuff happened in this book I don't even know where to start. There was so much emotional turmoil and betrayal that I feel like I have been put through the spin cycle of my washing machine. I'm still in shock over the ending, Armentrout doesn't usually do the cliffhanger ending but this one was brutal... I need book 3 NOW! If you haven't read this trilogy put it on your TBR now, you don't know what your missing :)

Week 2

Book: Last Wolf Standing by Rhyannon Byrd.
Date Read: 2/25/15
Rating: 3 Stars

Review:
This was a re-read for me. I will be reading book 2 soon and I wanted to remember what book 1 was all about. The book started off great, and it had me wondering why did I give this book just 3 stars before. It definitely should have been more. As I kept reading, I realized why this book never made it past 3 stars and I think with 3 stars I was being very generous. The beginning was the best part of the book and it kept going downhill from there with both hero and heroine who couldn't decide anything. On top of that, the beginning that was fast paced and action packed now was boring, the bad guy at best could do is call the hero and taunt him over the phone. Usually it takes me about a day to finish a book, but this one I kept having to put down because I was too bored, it took me 3 days and only because I knew I had to finish it for a challenge. A really good premise, if the author could have just kept the momentum the story built in the beginning, this would have been a 5 star book.

Items Claimed:

Glasses - "....her lunch tray tucked up in front of her and a bulky paperback wedged under her right arm, tortoiseshell glasses perched smartly on the bridge of her small nose." - Location 112.

Wife - "...and yet Robert Dillinger watched his wife with an avid absorption..." - Location 3211.

Pride (Shifters, #3) by Rachel Vincent by Rachel Vincent

Read: 24/02/2015

Rating: 4 Stars

Review:

This book is book 4 in a series I had previously started but had never finished prior to now. This book interestingly enough was the start of the focus on the overarching plot arc for the series; obviously in the other books there was groundwork done to the plot arc but this was the book that introduces key characters whose role in the reminder of the series is beyond essential. I did enjoy it and found myself eagerly looking forward to starting the next book.

Words:

Planet- "To help keep my temper in check, Michael had given me a stress ball painted to like the earth. I'd excised most of South America when Malone asked Dr. Carver if he knew of any medical reason I seemed "disinclined to breed"" Location 817
Wife- ""Rumor had it he'd been after his wife for years and years before she finally agreed to marry him." Location 172
Purple- "My father's face turned purple faster than I could backtrack." Location 3086
Wolf- "Rabbits, squirrels, possums, deer, moose- or was that elk? And wolf." Location 1272
Glasses-"Dark brows rose over the rim of his glasses, urging me to be good." Location 83

Clockwork Prince (The Infernal Devices, #2) by Cassandra Clare by Cassandra Clare

Read: 1/03/2015

Rating: 4 Stars

Review:

This series continues to surprise me; I keep expecting it to turn into a disappointing mess like how I found the Mortal Instruments series to be, despite it starting with an interesting concept, but it remains oddly adsorbing. In fact despite been aware where the plot is likely going I can't help but keep reading. There is without a doubt quite a few negatives with this series but I found the book just worked despite them. Overall, while nothing original it is an enjoyable read.

Words:

Green- "Everyone was staring at him now; beside him sat his youngest son Gabriel, who was looking up at his father with unreadable green eyes." Page 22
Grass- "There were no villages visible, only long swathes of gray-green grass and outcroppings of black rock." Page 88
Husband- "“Who ever said we were owed happiness?” Magnus said softly, and in his mind he saw the house of his childhood, and his mother flinching away from him with frightened eyes, and her husband, who was not his father, burning." Page 153
Plate- "“I knew them.” As Fell sawed into the ham on his plate, Tessa saw that he had an extra joint to each finger." Page 169
Country- "Like every room in England, Tessa thought, it was chilly in here except just in front of the fire." Page 222

For a Few Demons More (The Hollows, #5) by Kim Harrison

Read: 1 Mar 2015
Rating: 5 stars

Words
Green -- So I stood there in my jeans and green T-shirt... -- Loc. 2177
Grass -- My feet scuffed the grass... -- Loc. 3394
Husband -- Her husband was sitting sullenly beside her... -- Loc. 5421
Country -- ...concerning theft crimes spanning the entire North American continent and a few overseas in the UK and Germany... -- Loc. 1042
Plate -- I fixed two plates of pasta... -- Loc. 1355

Review
Something happens in this book and I was sort of dreading reading that part again and even though I knew it was coming it was still so hard to read. So heartbreaking, it had me crying again. I am however enjoying my reread of The Hollows. Rachel is an enjoyable heroine to read, she has her faults. I like that about her.

Scavenger Hunt R9 ~ Week 3 ~ Green & Grass

Drop Dead Demons (Divinicus Nex Chronicles #2) by A&E Kirk by A&E Kirk

Finished:04/03/15
Rating:4♥

Review:
Yet another solid book from the writing duo of A&E Kirk. This book pretty much picks up where book one left off with my girl Aurora getting in to all kinds of trouble, but boy does she do it with flare, quite literally. This book ratchets up the action ten times more then book one and the humor to just to funny. Also things are starting to heat between Aurora and Ayden to the point where things a literally catching on fire. Throw in love sick gods and pet demon worms and you have Drop Dead Demons.

A&E Kirk is fast becoming a favorite author of mine, they make a fantastic team and have a uncanny way of making you fall in love with the world and characters(ahhh... Matthias...so yummy) they are creating. If your not reading this series you should, it's great and worth the time.

Jennifer H Week 3 ~ Green & Grass

Zen and the Art of Vampires (Dark Ones, #6) by Katie MacAlister
3/4/15-3♥

Husband~she has taken a husband...p. 30
Country~the romance of Iceland...p. 1
Plate~saw my license plate...p. 173
Green~blue and green flashing...p. 23
Grass~were sitting on the grass...p. 21

Pia is not the girl on the cover of the book. Not possible. It irritates me that the author would go through the trouble of having a realistic woman and then ruin it. I like Pia. I like Kris. Alec is damn annoying. The story is good, but entirely predictable. I like that she attempted a twist from her formula, but it wasn't twisty enough to work.

I think it is one of the better HP's out there. It has a nice story, and it has a little bit of a fairy tale bit to it. It was nice how the hero tries to get the heroine back in the end.
