Critterbee❇ (critterbee) | 27 comments Children's Picture Book, read around 2000, but seemed older, probably published in the 1990s? This was found/read in a teacher's room.

Pages are illustrated, perhaps colored pencils, artistic rather than realistic, a bit like Bill Peet's illustrating style

Setting is looking through a window (perhaps a girl's bedroom window) onto a garden in her yard in an urban setting.

Every picture has the same setup, each page has another picture through the same window, showing the progress the city and garden has taken; each page is a few years forward timewise

Time span is from when the girl is about 3 or 4 years old up to when she is about 16 years old

The garden encourages public involvement/interaction and moving into public spaces

Thanks!

Critterbee❇ (critterbee) | 27 comments That sounds similar, but is not the book.
The book I am trying to remember was more positive, people coming together in the community around the garden.

Thanks for looking, Rainbowheart!

However this story is told from the perspective of the house, not the little girl.

Thanks for that idea - I didn't think to look on lists.

Did you rule out Belonging, also by Jeannie Baker?

message 13: by Critterbee❇ (new)

Critterbee❇ (critterbee) | 27 comments I don't think that is it - I think the art work is too different. But I have not ruled it completely out.
