Books that have more than one title!

Thanks Brenda ;)
I was able to find some whilst doing a duplicate search in My Books.
Ahh yes, I'd forgotten about that one! I know there are more - this will be good to list them as they're found:)
Numbers 2, 3 and 4 of Ariana Franklin's Mistress of the Art of Death series2 - The Death Maze = The Serpent's Tale
3 - Relics of the Dead = Grave Goods
4 - The Assassin's Prayer = A Murderous Procession

"I have just read a post in your groups ( couldnt work out how to reply directly) and it seems some people are under the illusion that Affection and The Devils Eye are the same novel. This is not so and I see the listing at Good Reads is also wrong for The Devils Eye states that this was also published under the tile Affection. I have both novels on my shelf and have checked and they are different stories being published in 2005 and 2008."
FYI
@Marianne, I just checked on Amazon and they are in fact two different books, so I will wait until they are sorted out and then delete those posts...thanks again for clearing that up.Good news is, I picked up his new kindle book for only $1.13 while I was there :P

this thread is great. I will have to keep a note of the Linwood Barclay and Diana Gabaldon ones as I'm collecting both those authors.

The Cattleman's Daughter = Through the Fire
So incredibly frustrating Phrynne! Don't tell me they are so desperate for sales that they change the names so we will buy a "new" book??
Phrynne wrote: "It's really amazing! And why do they do it???"Sometimes it is changed in different countries - so UK will have one title and USA will have another.
It has NEVER been explained to me in a way that makes me understand why - take Harry Potter for example it was originally published as Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone but when it was published in USA the title was changed to Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone - now I don't for one minute think that Americans would not understand the word Philosopher so they used Sorcerer instead - so it begs the question WHY?
I know Diana Gabaldon's was because of the publishers in the US & UK. Her original working title was Cross Stitch but when it was published in the US they thought it sounded too much like a craft book & changed it to Outlander, then when they went to publish "Outlander" in the UK, the UK publishers didnt like that & used Cross Stitch. They UK publishers also made a few minor changes to the story as well, so there are slight differences between Outlander & Cross Stitch. Didnt happen with any of her other books though, they are all exactly the same title & story in both. Maybe she had more say once she had a best selling novel :)
It is the same with films - HMS Defiant so named in the UK and 'Damn the Defiant' so named in the US, because the distribution people believed that the US public would not know what HMS meant. . . . .I self published my novel as 'Ice King', but after it was picked up by a UK publisher it was re-titled as 'Triangle Trade' (they also changed the cover). As the author I had little say in these changes.
Due to the overlap between the two titles some people realised that it had two titles and have added this fact to their reviews as a warning to others. They advised readers to buy Ice King because it was cheaper.

Brenda wrote: "Yes; look what you started Jools;)"Haha, it will be a lot easier to check the list especially when buying secondhand books ;)
I've added an "aka" to my bookshelf as well.
That's for sure! I think all books should be printed with their other title on the cover as well if there is one:)

@Brenda and Everyone else. It makes sense to periodically the GR feature 'Find Duplicates' in the Bookshelf Tools section. You will no doubt find one of these books mentioned here, one day. They swell your TBR or Read numbers.

It never ceases to amaze me how much I don't know about GR :)

I've done this few times and lost my review:(
I got caught out with Outlander and Cross Stitch by Diana Gabaldon. Read Cross Stirch first and then bought a copy of Outlander.Did the same with Amagansett and The Whaleboat House by Mark Mills. Loved The Whaleboat House so bought Amagansett thinking it was another book by the same author and was very disappointed when I started reading it.
When I really like an author, I go to fantasticfiction.co.uk to see what else they have written, and mostly, the duplicates are listed as alternative titles, so you can see what not to buy. Sometimes their info is incorrect but when you contact them they fix it.

I bought them secondhand back in the days when I didn't have a mobile device to look them up. Am older and wiser now (and better equipped for book buying)!
