Thanks Brenda and Marianne - will bookmark it also on my phone and iPad as I often use them to look up books when shopping so will be very useful!

That's a great site Marianne, I have also bookmarked it ;)
The first book in Kate Forsyth's Witches of Eileanan series has two names:
and
(US - because I guess they liked the series title so much they wanted to use it for the book too?)

It is a great site - have been using it for years. There is also an area where you can find Authors from particular countries.
By María Dueñas, The Time in Between = The Seamstress. When I first joined GR, this book and it's alter-title led me a merry dance indeed.
I had trouble finding this book The Keeper of Lost Causes by Jussi Adler-Olsen on Amazon until I twigged that it must have another name - Mercy.I checked with Marianne's website and in fact the entire series (Department Q) have been translated and released under two names:
The Absent One is also called Disgrace
A Conspiracy of Faith is also called Redemption
The Purity of Vengeance is called Guilt
The Marco Effect is called Buried
I nearly gave the book up as a lost cause! Took me a while to work out why I couldn't find it. I quite like the longer names but maybe the short ones market better?

I guess that's the reason they were changed, but don't publishers usually keep the same name? It would get awfully confusing otherwise.

In this case, they didn't. One would assume that normally, they do keep the same title otherwise there'd be a kazillion book titles:)
Felicity Pulman has re-released her Medieval series Janna Mysteries as Janna Chronicles and changed their titles:Rosemary for Remembrance has been re-released as Blood Oath: The Janna Chronicles 1
Rue For Repentance is now Stolen Child: Janna Chronicles book 2
Lilies For Love is now Unholy Murder: The Janna Chronicles book 3
Willows For Weeping is now Pilgrim of Death: The Janna Chronicles book 4
Sage For Sanctuary is going to be The Devil's Brew (coming out in May)
Thyme For Trust is going to be Day of Judgement
It is a nice little YA Historical mystery series that I am working my way through - am up to book 4.
No idea why the change of name - other than she has moved to Momentum Publishing. Janna is the daughter of a herbalist (who is burned as a witch in chapter 1 book 1) Janna knows her way around herbal medacine so the original titles were very suitable. The new ones fit too - don't get me wrong. Just don't see why they needed to fiddle - IMHO :)

Personally, I'm finding it disappointing but probably most books will be after reading Ruiz Zafon!
Just found out that
My Grandmother Sends Her Regards and Apologises by Fredrik Backman is also known as:
My Grandmother Asked Me to Tell You She's Sorry

Lol!!! I didn't even realise I had been using both titles without noticing there were two! I did wonder to myself why I was saying it differently each time I looked it up :(
I to go and check which edition I had marked as to read. So the kindle version is My Grandmother Asked Me to Tell You She's Sorry ...only the GR edition is written in Swedish! :))
My friend in the US has just bought it - that is what her title is - I bought my from the UK via Book depository. It beggers belief
One wonders why the Book Detail Page does not have a section for Alternate Title! That would solve a lot of dilemmas.
Here's one with THREE different titles!
Cypress Point
The Shadow Wife
The Forgotten Son
by Diane Chamberlain
What!!!!

I know it shows other editions on the books' profile page, and (in some but not all cases) it also has 'original title,' but is it possible to have 'aka titles' near that? My book database program has such a space which (if necessary) opens a dropdown box with the other listed titles for that book. Those other titles are added by me unless it is already in that book's database.
You'd have to get in touch with support/go to the feedback group/the librarian group..... to ask that question Jools:) It'd probably be in the too hard basket to change as they ARE already listed in "other editions" :)

another Diane Chamberlain book has three titles:The Secret Life of Cee Cee Wilkes
is also called The Lost Daughter
and A Beautiful Lie
I think sometimes they do this when they do a reissue years later, but notice, two of the covers are even the same.
I was caught with this one, bought two before I realised. Luckily I was book whispering so they didn't cost me a heap!
And if you look at fantasticfiction, they do show that these are alternative titles
Brenda wrote: "Did you buy them both Phrynne?"
No. Just got over excited because I thought he had published a new book. Was very disappointed it was one I read years ago:(

I understand - I have done that and been really disappointed - got the same one with a new title (luckily from the library) and when I started reading it seemed familiar...
This one was book 1 in a series I realised I had read. A quick bit of research showed the book is listed here on Goodreads with both titles mentioned in the blurb.
Wow, I've been 'had' like this too. When Cross Stitch came out, I was so excited. I'd read and loved Outlander and thought this was another sequel. Drats, drats, drats, it was just the AU title.

That one fooled me too Bette:)

I have earmarked Sea Hearts by Margo Lanagan for my read a YA book by an Aussie author for the upcoming spring challenge and spotted that in UK and USA it is titled The Brides of Rollrock Island.
