I think I read it about 2 years ago. I think it was an amazon unlimited find but I can't remember. It IS a Fantasy, probably YA, set in a world where only the magic users can read or write.

Writing is forbidden to the general public because writing down anything without training can lead to catastrophe aka explosion that wipes out a village. Mages/Witches? write down spells and bind them to paper. When they want to use them they tear the paper, releasing the magic.

The Main Character is a girl who is discovered to be able to use her voice to use magic and is taken to an academy to learn how to use it.

I definitely remember her training for combat and being at a disadvantage because she has to speak the same words that the other mages write and prepare ahead of time. It was a super cool concept but I can't find it :( Also think it was a series.
