Fantasy book from series, main character is consultant for police on supernatural caused murders

Fantasy Book, part of a series. The main character I think is supernatural and SHE consults with the police to help them solve (solve for them) the supernatural caused murders.
Most likely read sometime between 10 - 3 years ago.
Possible Spoilers and Graphic:
In this specific book of the series of murders are caused by a creature that tares bodies apart and eats pieces of them. I think on one murder scene there was a dad body found downstairs and a mom body found trying to protect her child.

Maybe one of the Anita Blake series that starts with Guilty Pleasures by Laurell K. Hamilton?
It's been too long since I read them to pinpoint which, but there's definitely some cases she works that involve people getting eaten.
