MM novel set in space with former abused slave

People, I need your help!
I´m searching for an MM novel I read about 2 years ago.

From what I remember it was set in space? (I´m not sure though) and a man ordered a humanoid "companion" to share his daily life with.
The protagonist isn´t on boat with the whole companion thing but goes along with his friends´ suggestion.
Instead of a robot? (Again, I´m not sure whether it was real humans or robots being offered for service) a human arrives.
He suffers from some kind of memory block and has apparently been conditioned and mistreated.
Their relationship develops and anything further I can´t recall.

I would appreciate it a lot if anyone could help me.
