Three books, totalling at least 750pg, no children's
I always think of this rhyme at this time of the year, so I thought I'd try to do a task for it.
March winds:
Read a book by an author who shares a name with one of the storm names in the UK Met Office/Irish Met Office list for 2020/21: https://www.metoffice.gov.uk/weather/.... The name must match exactly, but can be in any position.
April showers:
Read a book with a word in the title of at least three letters, which can be made from the letters in APRIL SHOWERS. For example lower, prow, pale, lope, etc. (If you need an anagram solver for other options, I like this one: https://www.thewordfinder.com/anagram...).
May flowers:
Read a book with more than one flower head on the cover. They can be a photo, a drawing or stylised, cut or still growing, but there must be more than one, and they must be recognisable as flowers.

The Waltons was an American television series which ran from 1972 to 1981, and was followed up with 6 made-for-tv movies. Although the show ended before I was born, the show lived on in my household in reruns, and I've now seen the entire series several times over. This task is based on The Walton family.
This is a 3 book task totaling 750 pages or more. No books with the genres children or kids on the main book page may be used.
Book 1: The Walton family originally consisted of John Walton, his wife Olivia, his father Zeb, his mother Esther, and his children John-Boy, Jason, Mary-Ellen, Erin, Ben, Jim-Bob and Elizabeth. As the show went on, several of the children were married and had children of their own, expanding the large family even further.
Read a book which centers around a family. At least 2 generations of characters must be represented in the book (such as a parent and a child, a grandparent and a grandchild, an aunt and nephew, etc.). If it's not obvious from the Goodreads description, you must provide a link to a reference explaining the characters' relationships.
Book 2: The original series was set during the years 1933-1946, covering the Great Depression and World War II. Many of the storylines were based around real-world events which took place during those years.
Read a book with the main page genre Historical Fiction.
Book 3: Although the The Waltons was set in Virginia, it was filmed entirely in California. The mountain featured in the opening credits is actually part of the Hollywood Hills in Burbank. The family home was built on a Warner Brothers studio lot, and in the 2000s it was reused on the show Gilmore Girls as the Dragonfly Inn.
Read a book set 50% or more in Virginia or California.

This is a three book task, and your total page #'s must be 750 or more
There are two possible ways to Build your pyramid;
Option 1:
Book 1: Begin with a one word Book Title: example Albatross
Book 2: Add a 2 or 3 word title where the first word starts with same letter as Book 1 (ie A) and the last word ends in the same letter as Book 1 (i.e. S)
example Among Others
Book 3: Add a Book with 1 or 2 more words in the title than Book 2 and again the letter of first word must match the first letter in Book 1, and the last word must end in same letter as Book 1
example: All the Bright Places
So your pyramid will look like:
__Albatross
_Among Others
All the Bright Places
(Don't worry if due to the length of your words, you don't make a perfect pyramid.)
Option 2:
Book 1: Choose a book with an odd number of characters (letters, spaces, punctuation all count)
example Albatross make note of the middle letter or character. In this book it is T
Book Two: Choose a book with a title with at least 2 more characters (must be an odd #) than book one--that shares the same middle letter. Example Call It Sleep
Book Three: Choose a book with a title with at least 2 more characters that Book 2, (once again an odd number, and the same middle letter or character than books 1 and 2.
example:Beneath This Mask
So my pyramid will look like:
__AlbaTross
_Call IT Sleep
Beneath This Mask

Task 50.1 Reliving the 70s
The 70s bring back so many memories for me! I was a teenager and there was so much to see, learn, and do. So we're going to take a trip down my memory lane and look at the fashion, music, and book trends of the decade. For this task you will need to go to Random.org and roll three dice. Note the numbers from left to right. Each die will correspond to books 1-3. If the number is even, read a book that meets the requirement listed for even, and if the number is odd, read a book that meet those requirements. List your numbers in your post.
Your books much total at least 750 pages, and no books with the genres children or kids on the main book page may be used.
Book 1: Fashion
Even: Hot Pants – Who wears short shorts? We wear short shorts! The fashion trend of the early 70s. Read a book of 250 pages or less.
Odd: Leisure suits – The 70s are known for a lot of bad fashion, but surely nothing was as bad as the leisure suit. In honor of all the fathers, grandfathers, uncles, and brothers who donned the popular pocketed suit of polyester, read a book with at least one man on the cover. You must post the cover of the book.
Book 2: Music
Even: Good-Bye Yellow Brick Road – I’m not sure I know anyone my age who did not own this album. All the songs were written by Elton John and Bernie Taupin. Read a book by a single author who initials (all initials) are found in Elton John OR Bernie Taupin.
Odd: Rumours – This is probably my favorite album of all-time. Read a book with one of these words in the title (words must match exactly): DON’T STOP GO YOUR OWN WAY GOLD DUST WOMAN
Book 3: Books
Even: Blockbuster Historical Fiction: Bestsellers of the decade included Michener’s Centennial and Chesapeake, Wouk’s The Winds of War and War and Remembrance, McCullough’s The Thorn Birds. Read a book with an MPG of historical fiction that was published in the second half of the 20th century (1950-1999).
Odd: Death Comes as the End, or Does It? – Agatha Christie died in 1976, but Hercule Poirot lives on in the new series by Sophie Hannah. David Lagercrantz has picked up from Stieg Larsson. There are dozens of books about Sherlock Holmes or Elizabeth Bennet not written by their creators. Read a book that features characters created by a now deceased author. It must be clear from the GR description that it features the original characters (i.e., not “Charlotte” Holmes and not Sherlock’s brother’s second niece). You will find numerous Holmes and Austen pastiche lists on GR. Here is another list that may help, but be sure to check that the book meets SRC rules.
Novel Series Continued After Death of Original Author

50.1 - Studio 54
This is a 3 book task, pick 1 book per option. Pages must total 750+. No kids, no graphic novels etc.
When I think of the 1970s the most iconic image that springs to mind is that of legendary nightclub Studio 54. Studio 54 ran from 1977-1980, so let's celebrate the three years of the 70s it was open.
Option 1 - 1977
It only took 6 weeks to transform an old theatre into the nightclub . Read either:
A: A book with a 6 word title/subtitle.
B: A book from this list :https://www.goodreads.com/list/show/2... (make sure your pick fits SRC rules).
Option 2 - 1978
Event planner Robert Isabell had four tons of glitter dumped in a four-inch layer on the floor of Studio 54 for a New Year's Eve party. Owner Ian Schrager said it was like "standing on stardust." Read:
A: A book with a shiny cover from this list: https://www.goodreads.com/list/show/1... You must give the page number of the list your book is on.
B:A book with at least one star on the cover (This is a nightclub so the sun does not count for this task.) Stars may be realistic or symbolic but must clearly be a star. You must show the cover and point out the star in our post.
Option 3 - 1979
Studio 54 was THE place to be seen, and was extremely exclusive. If you were lucky enough to make it in, you would be rubbing elbows with the most famous people around.
A: read a book where the author shares a name part with any of the notable patrons of Studio 54 from this list: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Studio_54 .
Name can be in any place in the name but must match exactly. Multiple authors allowed.
B: Perhaps the most enduring image of Studio 54 is "Lady Godiva" riding a white horse through the night club. Read a book with the MPG "Mythology", "Legend" or "Retellings."
