Welcome to the group, Melanie!
Hi Melanie -- I'm new too! I read Christie and Perry too, also like the Charles Todd books a lot. Welcome!
Hi. I'm Justin. I like the subset of historical fiction mysteries. Current series:
1. Peter Tremaine's Sister Fidelma set in ancient Ireland in the 7th century AD.
2. Steven Saylor's Roma Sub Rosa (aka Gordianus)
To read:
1. Simon Scarrow - Eagles of the Empire Series. Not a mystery / whodunit
Hello, just though I would came along and say hi.I also have a few questions, may we post links to our review blogs?
Where can we post reviews for the books we have read, I have looked around and can't seem to find a spot.
:)

Hi LGandT - welcome to the group!
You can post a link to your blog in the self-promotion folder. You can post links to your Goodreads reviews in the Historical Mystery Reads of 2018 threads. Please do not post links to your blog reviews in this thread; you can post those in the thread you create for your blog in the self-promotion folder.
Thanks.
Hope you enjoy the group.

Hi, I'm Crystal. I absolutely love Historical Mysteries. Favorite would have to be The Sister Fidelma Mysteries by Peter Tremayne.

Hi everyone! I'm Margaret.I love mysteries and historical mysteries in particular. My favorite series are Maisie Dobbs, Sister Fidelma, Knight's Templar, and the Hangman's Daughter series. I also love Dorothy Sayers.
I'm so glad to have found you all!
Hi im Kristy, and i love historical mysteries. Lately i have been reading the Charles lenox mysteries by Charles finch and the jane austen mysteries by stephanie barron. Would reccomend both of these. Just started scotland yards murder squad books too but have only read one so far. This group seems awesome!! :)
Lots of new members! Welcome to all. Be sure to check out the Clue game going on this year. Its a lot of fun trying to match your reading to the category.
What a fun group! I haven't been part of a Goodreads group for too long and am looking forward to checking out many of the books suggested here. I'm J.P., and live in northwestern Vermont with my darling hubby, cute son and four naughty chickens who are forever escaping their pen. I love reading suspense/mystery--some historical and some psychological.
Gothic suspense is probably my favorite (like the original "Dracula" and Daphne DuMaurier's "My Cousin Rachel,") as well as suspense like "Yellow Room," by Mary Roberts Rinehart. I'm always looking for creepy, atmospheric tales and would love your suggestions as to what I should add to my TBR pile next. :)
Welcome to the group, J.P.
Check out our new releases thread for some ideas or join us in Historical Mysteries Clue - its a great way to broaden your reading horizons!
Hope you have a great time with us :)

Hi, I'm Cheryl. I've been working in the public library in Austin for almost 30 years and read just about anything. My favorite genres are historical fiction and mysteries, so Historical Mysteries are a given!!Looking forward to discussions about Historical Mysteries - hopefully not too many new and exciting books to add to my TBR (it's getting out of control!!).
Welcome to the group Cheryl!
We all have that growing TBR problem :)
Hope you have a great time with us.

Thanks so much, Lauren. I will check out the Historical Mysteries Clue--I'm not sure what that is yet, but will find out! :) Hope you're having a good start to your week. Lauren wrote: "Welcome to the group, J.P.

Hi Cheryl, nice to meet a fellow "newbie" here! I hear ya on the TBR pile--I went through a serious delcuttering/minimalism phase a few years ago and gave away about 75% of my books...but am now filling a particular shelf with TBR novels. And I feel OK about that (as long as it stays within that space). But my online/notebook/mental TBR pile is huge! Cheryl A wrote: "Hi, I'm Cheryl. Hi all,I just joined this group yesterday. After telling my daughter about Goodreads I thought maybe I should be getting more use out of the app, myself.
I tend to browse the historical mysteries section on my Freading app and discover new-to-me authors that way. Lately I have been reading and loving the Crispin Guest series by Jeri Westerson.
As I checked out the discussions in this group, I realized there are a lot more great books out there. Thank goodness! Happy to be here.
Welcome, Amy! I'm new to the group too and looking forward to all the great historical mystery chatting and new book recommendations. :) Amy wrote: "Hi all,

Hi J.P. I saw your post about his group on the GR Homepage and thought this sounds like a very interesting genre to check out, so here I am, lol!
Hello everyoneI'm Queen Pooh Bear. I'm a historian and 19th century fanatic. I've been reading historical fiction my whole life but am a relative newcomer to historical mysteries. A kind librarian introduced me to Lady Julia- or more precisely Nicholas Brisbane (:swoon:) The Lady Julia Grey Bundle. I absolutely love female sleuths like Lady Julia, Amelia Peabody and even Jane Austen. I'll read up through WWII but lose interest after that. I'm not really a fan of crime novels or gaslight types. I like my mysteries light and fun, preferably with some romance or hint of romance. I added a lot of books to the bookshelf. I read some modern cozy mysteries as well but only when I run out of or don't have time for historical fiction.
I also read historical mysteries aimed at middle grade readers (ages 9-12) and teens. If anyone wants recommendations for those I especially love
Kat, Incorrigible (ages 10+) a Regency fantasy hybrid with a fun, spunky young heroine.
A Spy in the House (The Agency series) is a great series aimed at teens and adults. The books are speculative fiction -something that could have possibly existed or happened usually female-driven. I really like Mary and her story. The history is fascinating.
Now school is over (I'm a museum educator/tour guide) I have more time to read. I hope to get through one or two more Amelia Peabody mysteries before my schedule gets busy again. It's nice to meet some fellow historical mystery lovers.

Yes, Nicholas is very swoonworthy :)

Welcome to all.I often recall the opening line of the first Lady Julia: It is not true I met Brisbane over my husband's dead body. He was still twitching.
Great series but I never tried V Speedwell.
I also love Amelia Peabody.

Such a great line!
I haven't started the Speedwell series yet either. Maybe when Raybourn is our featured author.

The librarian recited that opening line from Silent in the Grave and I was hooked! It sounded funny. It took me awhile to get used to the gritter version of Victorian England than what I was used to but Brisbane made it so worth it.
Hi everyone,I'm new to the group and love to read historical mysteries. I'll read any time period but my favorites are Victorian & Edwardian. One era I've overlooked is Restoration. I don't have a favorite kind of historical mystery. I'll read Holmes pastiches to cozies to Scotland Yard investigations. I hope to find many more great mysteries here.
Welcome to the group Beth!
Hope you find some new books and authors. Your eclectic tastes will come in handy here :)

I desperately need assistance. I can't add any more selections to my Clue post. How can I do this? I have logged 13 books and can't add any more.
I wonder if there is a maximum number of characters for any one post? I was able to add a new post at the end of your original thread.
Hi everyone I have never been in a group like this but I love to read. I like historical mysteries. I think I have read all of the Anne Perry books. I do like the Victorian period the best. Its so interesting to see medicine and science emerging in solving the mysteries. So tell me how this works. Do we discuss one book together or just post reviews?
Hey Marcia!
Welcome to the group.
There are many different activities going on in the group. We have an ongoing yearly challenge (there will be a new one starting in 2019) as well as a featured author every month. Some members read books together for these or they post their individual reads in the general what are you reading thread.
Let us know if you have any questions.

Hello everyone,I'm excited to find this group. I love reading historical mysteries, especially those which immerse me in a time and place far away. Lots of detail and historical accuracy are important, as well as an intriguing plot. It's the closest thing I've found to a time machine! My favorite era is the Victorian, but I also like ancient Rome, medieval, Tudor-era, and the early-to mid-20th century for settings. Favorite authors are Robert McCammon (Matthew Corbett series), CJ Sansom, Dan Simmons, Sarah Waters, Caleb Carr, Steven Saylor, Emma Donaghue. I'm always looking for new authors to discover.
Welcome to the group, Julia!
It is good to have you with us. I also have a soft spot for the Victorian era as well as the Regency period. Have you read C. S. Harris's Sebastian St. Cyr series?

Hello Lauren! Thanks for welcoming me to the group. I haven't yet read any of the Sebastian St. Cyr books but will look into them.
Hello! My name is MaryEllen Louise, and I love mystery novels! My Favorite authors are:
Jane Austen
Sir Arthur Conan Doyle
Kiera Cass
and Cassandra Clare!
I love Horses, riding, and food! In fact, my favorite foods are Spaghetti, Salmon, and Chicken soup (basic, I know!).
Fun fact: I have a vertical stripe in one of my eyes!
I am always looking for new friends on GoodReads who share my love of reading! Happy Reading!
I'm Malorie and I'm a firefighter. I review books professionally on the side and blog about my reading adventures for fun. My favorite genres are mystery and historical so historical mysteries are like heaven. I'm currently reading "The Mystery at Belle Magnolia" by Madison Kent. I just recently discovered steampunk mystery when reading my new favorite series by A.W. Exley. The first book in the series "Nefertiti's Heart" is one of my favorites now, it is AMAZING and I don't ever usually say that about a book.
