Byron had one surviving child but in the middle grade detective series, Allegra is alive and well - at the same time as Ada (Lovelace). I thought it was fun and tried to push the series on my nieces but they gave me a "meh. not a graphic novel? Not interested."

She makes her decision. The triangle doesn't drag on too long but the romance is slow burn. You have to remember that one choice will restore her to her rightful place in Society, everything she was raised to expect would come to her. The other choice would lead to the opposite - putting her way down the social ladder and possibly ostracized from Polite Society.
Kat Holloway is driving me crazy pushing Daniel away! He's sooo swoony! I have a soft spot for the rogues.

Welcome to the group, Patty. If you're partial to Australian authors, may I suggest a series by A.M. Stuart, set in 1900s Singapore. There are currently four books, with the fifth coming next October. The first is:

Hello! I'm looking forward to reading more historical mysteries, as I've mostly read other genres for the past few years. I loved The Captain Lacey series, and look forward to rereading it including the last few novels that I've never read.As for me, I'm retired and health issues keep me pretty sedentary. I've noticed several recommendations in this thread, and am pretty happy about that.
Hi everyone! My name is Chrissy and historical mysteries seem to be pretty much all I'm in the mood for reading so far this year. I was in the biggest reading slump of my life until Veronica Speedwell (fun up to book #5) and then Lady Darby (loved it, can't wait for the next one) pulled me out. This proves that sometimes the recommendations provided by the goodreads algorithm work, but recommendations from other readers are usually better, which is why I'm happy I found this group. I love this phase of discovering a mostly new-to-me genre, when everyone's go-to favorites are still unknown to me. So, tell me your favorites, I need to grow my TBR to unmanageable proportions. ;)So far, I'm mainly drawn to the Regency or Victorian era, but also happy to try other time periods. And I love good romantic subplots, but not so much that it's more historical romance than historical mystery.
(What led the goodreads algorithm to recommend historical mysteries to me in the first place, was my love for Kelley Armstrong's A Rip Through Time - modern day detective ends up in Victorian Scotland -, and I also love the urban fantasy genre. So, I'd also be open to genre-blending books with some sort of fantastical element added in, as long as the main focus is still on the historical mystery aspect.)
Welcome. I'm sure you will find more recommendations than you can possibly read. Mine is the St Cyr's series, What Angels Fear, by C.S. Harris. I find it a good mix of adventure, mystery and romance.

Just finished Alison Goodman's The Benevolent Society (etc etc, long title). Well written, interesting characters. Some romance but not too much, and handled appropriately for the era (Regency).
Hi ChrissyI love Regency and Victorian too. I'm looking forward to An Art Lover's Guide to Paris and Murder and Murder at Vinland. My favorite Regency series was Stephanie Barron's Jane Austen mysteries. No one else writes convincingly in Jane's voice.

Sebastian St. Cyr is definitely on my list, I've heard many good things about it.For now, in a probably futile attempt to budget and not start buying another super long series (because I'm a total binger, completely unable to pace myself), I've started reading The Benevolent Society of Ill-Mannered Ladies. Only a few chapters in, but enjoying it so far. :)

Thank you, Lauren and Helen. My interests are very wide-ranging. I’ve read a lot of history, historical biography, and historical fiction, but not so many mysteries. Sansom’s Shardlake series is a favorite of mine, and more recently, S.G. MacLean’s Alexander Seaton books. And I have found Flavia deLuce absolutely delightful!
Hello everyone! I'm Rob Osler. I write traditional mysteries. I'm excited to have a forthcoming new historical mystery series, "Harriet Morrow Investigates," from Kensington Books. The first book in the series, THE CASE OF THE MISSING MAID, starts with Harriet on her first day of work for the prestigious Prescott Detective Agency in 1898 in Chicago. My other work has been a finalist for the Edgar, Anthony, Macavity, Agatha, and Lefty Awards, has been a Crime Reads Best of the Year, and won the MWA Robert L Fish Award. My favorite authors in the category include: Amy Stewart, Jacqueline Winspear, Mariah Fredericks, Lev AC Rosen, Karen Odden, Alison Montclair, Catriona McPherson, Deanna Raybourne, and Sujata Massey.

Hi all! Just found this group, and I’m looking forward to spinning the wheel.I like historical+romance+mystery and have a general alignment with the UK aesthetic, vs. the American one. This summer I discovered Ann Swinfen and read all the Bookseller of Oxford series and Cristobel Alvarez and loved them both. Dipped into the Roger Chapman series, too.
I read a lot, and am looking for folx who have a shared aesthetic to add to my friends list for ideas, too.
I’ve enjoyed Tana French and the nordic noirs, midsomer murders and Shardlake.

I started with the Tudors and the Shardlake series, but then moved on to the Georgians, and now the Victorians via gothic (Laura Purcell). Not sure if it's exactly mystery but loved
and then from there to E S Thompson and
....so it looks like a theme developing. Indeed, I'm looking for recommendations for great historical mystery authors - preferably 19th century.
