Was there a book you especially enjoyed that you never would have read if not for the Challenge? (and what prompt was it for?) : The Lost World by Michael Crichton (A 90s bestseller. I didn't like the first Jurassic Park book, so I probably wouldn't have read Lost World, but it was fun!)
Least favorite prompt: A book where the main character works at your current or dream job
Prompt you hope to see again: A book you've seen on someone's bookshelf
Last prompt you finished: A book with a Family Tree (Curses by Lish McBride)
Were you overall satisfied with your Challenge reading?: It was mixed like it was last year, but sure. It was maybe a little better than the ones from last year.
Did you like the TBR theme for the "advanced" prompts?: Yes, I thought that was a really helpful set of Advanced prompts.
Finally, are you in for 2022? Of course!

Prompt you hope to see again: Afrofuturist Book
Last prompt you finished: Bestseller from the 90s
Were you overall satisfied with your Challenge reading?: Very
Did you like the TBR theme for the "advanced" prompts?: They were okay. I didn't decide I was going to do them until I was nearly done with the challenge.
Finally, are you in for 2022? Totally!

Message number of your list post (if you've got one): Don't have one
Favorite prompt (and what book did you read for it?): The "magical realism" prompt. I'd never heard one before and I ended up LOVING Gingerbread, so I read like, three more magical realism books for different prompts.
Favorite book (and what prompt was it for?): My favorite book with year was For the Wolf, but I didn't actually read that one for a prompt. I really loved The Once and Future Witches, for the "A book with an oxymoron in the title."
Was there a book you especially enjoyed that you never would have read if not for the Challenge? (and what prompt was it for?) : If We Were Villains, for the "dark academia" prompt. Loved all the drama and the Shakespeare.
Least favorite prompt: "A book by a blogger, vlogger, YouTube video creator, or other online personality." I don't really follow online personalities, so this one was hard for me.
Prompt you hope to see again: I like that they get changed up, so I don't know if I want any to repeat. But when "your favorite prompt" comes up, I always do "a graphic novel" from the 2016 challenge
Last prompt you finished: "A locked room mystery"
Were you overall satisfied with your Challenge reading?: I always am.
Did you like the TBR theme for the "advanced" prompts?: I did. I have the habit (I'm sure many of us do) of just continually adding things to my TBR and then forgetting about them for new things.
Finally, are you in for 2022? I'm ready!

Message number of your list post (if you've got one): dont have
Not going into the favorite prompts of the least liked. I like the prompts the have to do with genres or have fun finding books that fit prompts. I don't like prompts that involve labeling people (race, orientation) that kind of thing.
Were you overall satisfied with your Challenge reading?: yes
Did you like the TBR theme for the "advanced" prompts?: Yes
Finally, are you in for 2022? Definitely

Message number of your list post (if you've got one): N/A
Favorite prompt (and what book did you read for it?): Favorite Prompt was "A book you think your best friend would like" and I read "A Steep Price" (Tracy Crosswhite Book 6) by Robert Dugoni. I liked this prompt because my bestie and I have very similar tastes, so I knew I would be reading something I really liked for this.
Favorite book (and what prompt was it for?): 11/22/63 by Stephen King and it was for the prompt: The longest book (by pages) on your TBR list
Was there a book you especially enjoyed that you never would have read if not for the Challenge? (and what prompt was it for?): "Plum Island" by Nelson DeMille for the prompt: A book by an author who shares your zodiac sign. I am on the cusp of Leo/Virgo, like directly on it. First I thought I might read a book by an author of each, but then I just googled authors with my birthday and this came up. I never would have read it otherwise and I actually quite enjoyed it.
Least favorite prompt: The book on your TBR list with the ugliest cover
Prompt you hope to see again: A book with three generations.
Last prompt you finished: A book in a different format than what you normally read (audiobooks, ebooks, graphic novels)

Did you like the TBR theme for the "advanced" prompts?: Most of them - that ugly cover one, I mean..... hard for me to pick something like that.
Finally, are you in for 2022? Heck yeah!

Prompt you hope to see again: Only a book published in 2022 and favourite prompt from a previous challenge, I hope all the other prompts are new.
Last prompt you finished: A book set in multiple countries, I read The Motorcycle Diaries: Notes on a Latin American Journey
Were you overall satisfied with your Challenge reading?: Yes, I think I read a good variety.
Did you like the TBR theme for the "advanced" prompts?: Not so much, it was a bit too limiting at times.
Finally, are you in for 2022? Yep!

Least favorite prompt: A book that has fewer than 1,000 reviews on Amazon or Goodreads
Prompt you hope to see again: A locked-room mystery
Last prompt you finished: A book set in multiple countries
Were you overall satisfied with your Challenge reading?: I think I tend to shoehorn books that I already want to read into the prompts, so I’m not really sure that I stretched myself the way the challenge designed to do.
Did you like the TBR theme for the "advanced" prompts?: I liked it, and it inspired me to spend 2022 on my own TBR pile. I’m a typical millennial reader, meaning that I tend to read what’s new and trending, not the books I know I will enjoy that I keep ignoring for the shiny things. Which brings me to my next point…
Finally, are you in for 2022? If I can fill the prompts with the books already on my TBR, I will, but if not, I may skip to focus more on my own reading!

Message number of your list post (if you've got one): 231 (though it changes, this is close enough)

Favorite prompt (and what book did you read for it?): A book from your TBR list you meant to read last year but didn’t - The Space Between Worlds. I always mean to read far more each year than I actually get to so this was a great prompt for me. Also, The Space Between Worlds was a candidate for my favorite book of the year.
Favorite book (and what prompt was it for?): A locked-room mystery - Piranesi
Was there a book you especially enjoyed that you never would have read if not for the Challenge? (and what prompt was it for?) : Well I don't know about "never," but the Longest Book on my Shelves was A Suitable Boy, by Vikram Seth. It's almost 1500 pages long and was an unsolicited gift a few years ago, so who knows how long it would have stayed sitting on the shelf without this prompt? Another candidate for my favorite book of the year.
Least favorite prompt: A book set in a restaurant. Food-oriented books are not my thing.
Prompt you hope to see again: A book set somewhere you would like to visit
Last prompt you finished: A DNF book from your TBR list. That was really hard! Out of 1200+ books on my TBR list there were only two I started and didn't finish. One was very long and very academic and I meant to read that one but just couldn't - so I finally finished a book I read half of in college and enjoyed but never finished (stories).
Were you overall satisfied with your Challenge reading?: Yes
Did you like the TBR theme for the "advanced" prompts?: Yes, I always try to fill as many prompts as possible from my TBR list anyway.
Finally, are you in for 2022? But of course! :D

Message number of your list post (if you've got one): #22 (so close to 21 in 2021)
Favorite prompt (and what book did you read for it?): Published in 2021, I am always assured a stress free prompt that I will read something I enjoy for. Blood Heir
Favorite book (and what prompt was it for?): The Song of Achilles women's prize Blood Heir published 2021 or The Echo Wife genre hybrid
Was there a book you especially enjoyed that you never would have read if not for the Challenge? (and what prompt was it for?) : The Song of Achilles For women's prize for fiction. Least favorite prompt: Magical Realism 100% I love SFF but not this label.
Prompt you hope to see again: Dark Academia
Last prompt you finished: Been on the TBR the longest Shifting Shadows
Were you overall satisfied with your Challenge reading?: No. I gave myself extra rules that left me stressed out about finishing this. I couldn't count ya and no rereads. I'm going to keep the no rereads rule though.
Did you like the TBR theme for the "advanced" prompts?: Yes. This helped me read physical books in my house that have been looking at me for years. :)
Finally, are you in for 2022? Of course. I'm already planning but have yet to post a list.

Last prompt you finished: Seen on someone else's shelf
Were you overall satisfied with your Challenge reading?: yes
Did you like the TBR theme for the "advanced" prompts?: my TBR is over 1000 books strong so they felt too easy. I limited mostly to books I physically owned or had on kindle to make it more challenging
Finally, are you in for 2022? yes, but I'm not very enthusiastic about many of next year's topics.

Date you finished: still working but mostly done (42/50 by 12/8/21)

Finally, are you in for 2022?: 100% Just finished making my list today too!

Message number of your list post: 185

Favorite book (and what prompt was it for?): I read 3 5-star books for the challenge. The Four Winds social justice issue, We Begin at the End for oxymoron and We Were the Lucky Ones for family tree.
Was there a book you especially enjoyed that you never would have read if not for the Challenge?: Binti for Afrofuturist prompt. I do not enjoy technology or scifi books, but I did enjoy this one, maybe because it was so short!
Least favorite prompt: #49 DNF book- ughhh I hate these prompts the most. I don't ever DNF a book, so have to cheat by setting one aside and then picking it back up again.
Prompt you hope to see again: Love the dream job one, the book published in current year
Last prompt you finished: #45 TBR the longest - read The Sun Also Rises
Were you overall satisfied with your Challenge reading?: Yes
Did you like the TBR theme for the "advanced" prompts?: I did (minus the DNF one) - I usually try to be very selective when I add books to my TBR and love getting ones already on there off and cross them off my list.
Finally, are you in for 2022? Yes, cannot WAIT!

Message number of your list post (if you've got one): 542
Favorite prompt (and what book did you read for it?): A book by an Indigenous author - The Removed

Favorite book (and what prompt was it for?): This is tough...I had several that would qualify here...and several that weren't part of the challenge. I'll go with "Bel Canto", and I read it for the prompt "a book that has won the Women’s Prize for Fiction".

Message number of your list post (if you’ve got one): I did not have a list post.
Favorite prompt (and what book did you read for it?): My favorite prompt was “a book set somewhere you’d like to visit in 2021.” I decided to read Clanlands: Whisky, Warfare, and a Scottish Adventure Like No Other, by Sam Heughan and Graham McTavish.
Favorite book (and what prompt was it for?): My favorite book was North and South, by Elizabeth Gaskell, which I read for “favorite prompt from a past reading challenge - a book that is more than 100 years old.”
Was there a book you especially enjoyed that you never would have read if not for the Challenge? (And what prompt was it for?): There were a few books that I selected specifically for the Challenge that I might not have read otherwise. One title I really ended up enjoying was Dumplin', by Julie Murphy, which I read for the “body positivity” prompt.
Least favorite prompt: My least favorite prompt was “a book that has won the Women’s Prize for Fiction.” It felt very limiting.
Were you overall satisfied with your Challenge reading?: Overall, yes. I had the opportunity to read a lot of great books this year, many of which have been sitting on my bookshelves for a long time. That being said, there were times when my reading for the challenge felt like a homework assignment.
Did you like the TBR theme for the “advanced” prompts?: I did like this year’s theme for the “advanced” prompts. That was actually what made me decide to participate in the Challenge this year, and I would love to see more TBR-focused prompts in the future.
Finally, are you in for 2022?: While next year’s prompts look interesting, I have decided to take a break from reading challenges in 2022.

Favorite prompt (and what book did you read for it?): A book set in a restaurant: Arsenic and Adobo
Favorite book (and what prompt was it for?): Harleen, A book that has a heart, diamond, club, or spade on the cover
Was there a book you especially enjoyed that you never would have read if not for the Challenge? (and what prompt was it for?) : I would never have gotten around to Ducks, Newburyport if not for the Longest Book on Your TBR Prompt. It's over a thousand pages and mostly stream of consciousness, but I loved it!
Least favorite prompt: A DNF Book from your TBR list: I read Piranesi for this and it went as I expected.
Prompt you hope to see again: The Book on Your TBR List with the Ugliest Cover, because it got me to read something that wouldn't have risen to the top of my list otherwise (The Mermaid of Black Conch)!
Last prompt you finished: A Locked Room Mystery (Snow by John Banville)
Were you overall satisfied with your Challenge reading?: Yes, it stretched my reading choices.
Did you like the TBR theme for the "advanced" prompts?: Yes, I liked digging into my TBR list.
Finally, are you in for 2022? No. I just don't like the prompts this year ( I made a theoretical list of books to read) and I didn't end up reading as much science fiction (my favorite genre) this year and think that that will hold true next year if I do the challenge. I have picked several other challenges to do that line up better with my natural reading preferences. This was fun, but it did feel like "homework" a bit more than I ultimately enjoyed and made me feel too constrained in my reading choices. I liked pushing myself but this was also a hard year. I was sometimes pleasantly surprised by books but I also sometimes felt less joy in my reading.

41. The longest book (by pages) on your TBR list
Prompt you hope to see again:
✔40. Your favorite prompt from a past POPSUGAR Reading Challenge :2020 Challenge, #12. A book that passes the Bechdel test
Last prompt you finished:
✔21. A genre hybrid
The Blue Sword by Robin McKinley 12/14 ❇❇❇❇❇
Were you overall satisfied with your Challenge reading?: yes
Did you like the TBR theme for the "advanced" prompts?: not so much - they were very challenging, but I can see where they would be fun for others
Finally, are you in for 2022? sure!

Favorite prompt (and what book did you read for it?): A book from your TBR chosen at random. I definitely second-guessed myself for the challenges I thought were cooler but for this one I used an Excel function to select the book and I liked getting to be like “welp I have to read this one because Excel has spoken.” And I read All You Can Ever Know for this one.
Favorite book (and what prompt was it for?): Still mulling on this one but it might end up being The Forest of Stolen Girls which I read for the prompt “a book about forgetting.”
Was there a book you especially enjoyed that you never would have read if not for the Challenge? (and what prompt was it for?) : Hamnet for “a book that’s won the women’s prize for fiction.” I’m picky about books about where artists get their inspiration from their real life and like quadruply so when it comes to Shakespeare due to ridiculous conspiracy theories about this topic. This one felt raw and real though.
Least favorite prompt: “A book by a Muslim American author.” I love the idea behind this prompt but in practice it ended up being a bit limiting. I think I would have preferred this challenge if it had been “a book by a Muslim author who lives in a country where Islam is not the majority religion.” I say this because I swear I came across so many cool and/or challenging books by Muslim British or Muslim Canadian authors. When I limited my search to American authors only I feel like I got a lot of YA books which I wasn’t feeling like reading at the time I got around to this prompt.
Prompt you hope to see again: “A book with a gem, mineral, or rock in the title.” I like this one in general. I also read a very silly book for this one in general so it would be fun to take this one more seriously next time.
Last prompt you finished: “ A book from your TBR list you meant to read last year but didn’t.” The Mirror & the Light
Were you overall satisfied with your Challenge reading?: Yeah! This is one of those years I needed to read a ton and the challenge helped me focus on that.
Did you like the TBR theme for the "advanced" prompts?: Yes! It helped me out a dent in my TBR and that felt great.
Finally, are you in for 2022? Hopefully!

Favorite prompt (and what book did you read for it?): A book from my TBR chosen randomly. I read First Person Singular: Stories.
Favorite book (and what prompt was it for?): It was probably a tie between Poison for Breakfast (published in 2021) and Pride and Prejudice (published anonymously). I always like to have an excuse to read me some Jane Austen.
Was there a book you especially enjoyed that you never would have read if not for the Challenge? (and what prompt was it for?) : Before the Coffee Gets Cold and Before the Coffee Gets Cold: Tales from the Café for magical realism and set in a restaurant.
Least favorite prompt: The one about my current or dream job. Nobody writes books about insurance claims processors (with good reason), and my dream job of professional cat-petter/peanut-butter-cup-eater doesn't exist.
Prompt you hope to see again: A randomly chosen book.
Last prompt you finished: Book by a Muslim author Laughing All the Way to the Mosque
Were you overall satisfied with your Challenge reading?: Indeedy.
Did you like the TBR theme for the "advanced" prompts?: Yes, although my TBR is longer now than it was this time last year.
Finally, are you in for 2022? You betcha.

Favorite prompt (and what book did you read for it?): The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo for "A book everyone seems to have read but you"
Favorite book (and what prompt was it for?): Kim Jiyoung, Born 1982 for "A book about a social justice issue"
Was there a book you especially enjoyed that you never would have read if not for the Challenge? (and what prompt was it for?): The Song of Achilles for "A book that has won the women's prize for fiction". I'm not a big fan of historical fiction, and I usually prefer women-centric stories, so I was surprised I enjoyed this book as much as I did.
Least favorite prompt: "A magical realism book", because I found really difficult to find a book I was interested to read for this challenge.
Prompt you hope to see again: "A book set somewhere you'd like to visit in 2021", just because is an easy challenge to complete since I haven't had the opportunity to travel internationally yet.
Last prompt you finished: A book about forgetting
Were you overall satisfied with your Challenge reading?: Yes.
Did you like the TBR theme for the "advanced" prompts?: No. To be honest my TBR is just a list of books I lost interest in, so I didn't do the advanced part of the challenge.
Finally, are you in for 2022? Yes, I already picked the books and all.

Least favorite prompt: " A book that has won the Women’s Prize for Fiction"; honestly the selection was too limited. I found it hard to find a book that interested me. (I did find one, but it took me all year). Maybe include nominees next time?
Prompt you hope to see again:
"A book that has fewer than 1,000 reviews on Amazon or Goodreads" (Let's support indie writers as much as possible!)
Last prompt you finished: "A book that has a heart, diamond, club, or spade on the cover"

Prompt you hope to see again: A book set in multiple countries
Last prompt you finished: A book with a gem, mineral, or rock in the title - The Golden Cage
Were you overall satisfied with your Challenge reading?: Yes, knocked off a ton of books that I had on my TBR list that may have kept getting put off otherwise
Did you like the TBR theme for the "advanced" prompts?: Yes! Didn't get to it, but would have loved to.

Favorite prompt (and what book did you read for it?): Invisible Girl by Lisa Jewell for “a book by an author who shares your zodiac sign”
Favorite book (and what prompt was it for?): This is How You Lose the Time War by Amal El Mohtar & Max Gladstone for “a free book from your TBR list”. It was a Christmas gift from my mom.
Was there a book you especially enjoyed that you never would have read if not for the Challenge? (and what prompt was it for?) : For some reason, I decided to skip The Invisible Life of Addie LaRue by VE Schwab for “a book about forgetting” but I wasn’t able to find anything else interesting so I read this. I absolutely loved it!
Least favorite prompt: I found “a book that discusses body positivity” uncomfortable for personal, triggery reasons. I did not enjoy the book I read because of those reasons.
Prompt you hope to see again: I suggested a variation of “a book that has fewer than 1,000 reviews on amazon or goodreads” and was thrilled to see it on the list. I’d love to see it again.
Last prompt you finished: “a book featuring three generations”
Were you overall satisfied with your Challenge reading?: Yes, overall I read a lot of good books. I struggled to finish in time because my schedule got a lot busier the second half of this year, and reading for a deadline wasn’t my favorite way to finish the challenge.
Did you like the TBR theme for the "advanced" prompts?: Yes! I’m so close to having read all of the books that I’ve purchased, and these prompts helped a lot with that.
Finally, are you in for 2022? I’m still deciding. There are so many books I want to read that I’m not sure will fit into the very specific 2022 prompts. I’ve been putting some of these books off for years to read challenge books instead. It might be time to take a year to read for myself only.

Message number of your list post (if you've got one): 292
Favorite prompt (and what book did you read for it?): #40: Your favorite prompt from a past Popsugar challenge. I read one for each year, but of those, my favorite was A steampunk novel, from 2017. I read A Dawn Most Wicked.
Favorite book (and what prompt was it for?): When Stars Are Scattered, for #34: A book about social justice. Not what I planned to read, but SO GOOD! And fits the prompt better than my original choice.
Was there a book you especially enjoyed that you never would have read if not for the Challenge? (and what prompt was it for?): Hold Me Closer, Necromancer for #19, A book about body positivity. I’m not sure it fits exactly, but I found it on the Listopia, so I’m counting it. I’d never heard of this one before, and I loved it.
Least favorite prompt: It’s a toss up between the DNF prompt, the ugly cover prompt and the set in a restaurant prompt.
Prompt you hope to see again: I always love the favorite past prompt and the book published in the current year.
Last prompt you finished: The last book I finished was for the past Popsugar prompt from 2019: A book inspired by myth/legend/ folklore, and I read The Son of Neptune.
Were you overall satisfied with your Challenge reading?: Yes! I read a lot of excellent books.
Did you like the TBR theme for the "advanced" prompts?: Mostly.
Finally, are you in for 2022? Yes! I’ve already got my books picked out, and the first one is ready and waiting for me to start!

Was there a book you especially enjoyed that you never would have read if not for the Challenge? (and what prompt was it for?) : The Color Purple (A book on a Black Lives Matter reading list)
Least favorite prompt: A DNF book from your TBR list
Prompt you hope to see again: A locked-room mystery
Last prompt you finished: A book that published in 2021
Were you overall satisfied with your Challenge reading?: it was my first time participating and I really enloyed it, even though I haven't completed all the prompts
Did you like the TBR theme for the "advanced" prompts?: yes, mostly
Finally, are you in for 2022? Nah, I don't really like most of the prompts for the next challenge, it's hard to fit my tbr in those

Message number of your list post (if you've got one): N/A
Favorite prompt (and what book did you read for it?): As usual, my favorite prompt was "Your favorite prompt from a past POPSUGAR Reading Challenge" because my favorite prompt is always a book about time travel, at least as long as there is a book by Jodi Taylor to read for it. This year it was Plan for the Worst.
Favorite book (and what prompt was it for?): It would be either Project Hail Mary by Andy Weir or The Madness of Crowds by Louise Penny, both of which were for A book published in 2021 (I read multiple for some prompts, sometimes intentionally and other times it just happens that way).
Was there a book you especially enjoyed that you never would have read if not for the Challenge? (and what prompt was it for?) : I read two excellent books by Fredrik Backman that I probably would not have read if not for the Challenge (because the previous book I had read by him I had not enjoyed all that much), And every morning the way home gets longer and longer for A book about forgetting and Anxious People for A locked room mystery.
Least favorite prompt: There are several I did not like, but I think the "winner" would be The book on your TBR list with the ugliest cover, because the only books I really think have ugly covers are usually those where the cover reflects the subject matter (such as horror) that I would not want to read.
Prompt you hope to see again: I usually come up with multiple possible titles for a lot of these prompts, and I don't end up reading all of them, so the prompt A book from your TBR list you meant to read last year but didn't would give me and additional incentive to read more of them.
Last prompt you finished: A book that was published anonymously
Were you overall satisfied with your Challenge reading?: Pretty much so - there are always books that I don't enjoy much, but there are a lot that I do enjoy, and I like the fact that I read books I would not have otherwise.
Did you like the TBR theme for the "advanced" prompts?: No - I usually do try to use books from my TBR list to meet Challenge prompts, but I don't like having prompts limited to them (and I don't pay any attention to which are "regular" vs "advanced" prompts)
Finally, are you in for 2022? Already starting to work on my list (it looks like it will take a lot more searching to find books for a lot of these prompts).
Date you finished: 12/26/21 - I've never finished so late!!!
Message number of your list post (if you've got one): 8
Favorite prompt (and what book did you read for it?): I really liked "book by an indigenous author" (I read The Last Final Girl) & "genre hybrid" (I read American Elsewhere)
Favorite book (and what prompt was it for?): I chose a favorite read each month, and six (!) of them were Challenge reads:
American Elsewhere (genre hybrid)
Catherine House (dark academia)
Nothing to See Here (magical realism - a real surprise for me, because I usually don't like magical realism!)
The Last Days of Night (oxymoron - a bit of a stretch for this category, but a great book)
We Could Be Heroes (same title as a song - close enough)
The Good Son (a free book from my TBR - like most of my books, I borrowed this from the library)
Was there a book you especially enjoyed that you never would have read if not for the Challenge? (and what prompt was it for?) : Elizabeth and Her German Garden for "published anonymously" - I'd never heard of this book, and it was a delight! (which was a relief, because I had been dreading this category)
Least favorite prompt: LONGEST BOOK
Prompt you hope to see again: I always like to see "published this year"
Last prompt you finished: LONGEST BOOK
Were you overall satisfied with your Challenge reading?: Yes! I read a lot of good books!
Did you like the TBR theme for the "advanced" prompts?: Yes.
Finally, are you in for 2022? Of course :-)
