I went through the pages of the list last night and couldn't decide what to read, and then when I went to bed, I realised that there was nothing to even consider. The book was not on the 25 pages of the list, but it IS tagged magic 39 times, and an absolutely obvious choice :-D

I just enjoy going through the shelves and making a list of possible books I could read and picking one of them. I do this as soon as the shelves are announced when the round goes up, and then I generally don't stick to the list once the specific shelves get called haha :-)
But it's a nice way to spend some time anyway!

Very true, I do the same as well. Helps for those odd shelves and gives ideas for other books.

It also reminds me which books to keep for the odd shelves where I don't have a lot of options.

Interesting....I've owned the first book in this series for years but have never started the series yet. That sounds like a recommendation!

You haven't read Alex Verus! Do it, do it now!
He's one of my absolute heroes, like Harry Dresden. They have a tendency to get sucker-punched by life, fate and what they thought was the right thing.

Review: This was a really interesting premise - living forever but nobody being able to remember you (that is from the precis, so I figure it isn't too big a spoiler). There was another book I read by Claire North with that same basic idea, and my brain kept going back and forth in between the two. There were some other "big" ideas as well - be careful what you wish for! And I thought about the ideas a lot - like what would I do in Addie's situation. In fact, I thought about that type of stuff more than I thought about the book. The problem was it never really touched my emotions or made me feel like I was dying to pick up the book because I needed to see what happened next. It was for sure well written though. And I DID read it fast because I chose it up for The Amazing Race challenge, and then it fit this one too - so yay! If I didn't have it for that quick turn-around challenge though, I think I would have taken a couple weeks to finish this, while gravitating towards other things.

I think this is my favorite Harry Dresden book so far. Among the things Harry gets involved with in Blood Rites is running from some fire pooping demon monkeys, working on the set of a porno flick ,trying to track down a curse slinging murderer and some interesting news on his personal life. Many twist in this one. I have really gotten to love Murphy and Thomas!!! And there are puppies, what's not to love.

I didn't find this as scary as the last one but it was still creepy. There were a few different ghosts with their own brand of haunting going on. I remember going to Summer Camp as a kid and kept picturing the campground as I read. Made it creepier! There was only Ellie & Stacey in this one. I want more Jacob and Michael!

What a wonderful book! I laughed, cried and smiled !
Linus is sent by Extremely Upper Management to a level 4 special orphanage to observe the living conditions of 6 children of the extreme variety for the next month. The characters are wonderful! I don’t want to give anything away, so a brief review. Just Read it!
“A home isn’t always the house we live in. It’s also the people we choose to surround ourselves with. You may not live on the island, but you can’t tell me it’s not your home. Your bubble, Mr. Baker. It’s been popped. Why would you allow it to grow around you again?”

This was a little slower paced than usual but there was a lot going on nevertheless. Mainly, Alex seems to finally realise a few things about himself, which was necessary, and the plans of the Dark Mages are making everyone's lives miserable yet again, while still nobody can figure out what is actually going on.
I enjoy this series a lot but I'm nevertheless starting to get to the point where I'd like to finally know what's going on as this has been going on for quite a while.

Review: This was book 1 in a series, but it did feel like there was a lot of backstory I was missing (I believe she was a character in a previous series). I can see some potential in this new series though - although I don't know I'll continue. Basically, the Ink Witch can read tarot cards and predict the future, and that is how she is making a living at the start of the book. But when her half brother and others are missing, she is drawn back to her previous life as an assassin. The tattoo on the cover is actually a big part of the story as she does it to herself (!) early on with some special ink, and it ends up being unusual.

Oh, it's been gradually building for a few books but not completely since the beginning, so it's not too bad, but I do want to know... two more books to read and then #12 will be published some time soon, so we'll see.
And since the beginning of the series 5-6 years have passed, which is quite cool. It doesn't all happen within the space of a few months.

Meh! The first chapter starts off with a bomb. I loved the scene in the asylum. After that,I found I had to force myself to continuing reading. The overall story and world seemed interesting. I did find my self comparing this book to the Iron Druids books and lacking in the comparison. It might be because I read this following my awesome five star read of The House in the Cerulean Sea. Not sure I will continue on with the series.

They do become better though and everything else I'd like to say would be a spoiler haha.

I'm a little bit disappointed. I thought this would be a little better. Actually, someone's whole review is "Lame-a-saurus" and I think that sums it up. It starts out with Lillian being a Dryad and Gregory is her Gargoyle. There is no such things as male Dryads nor female gargoyles, so you see how this is going. But we're going to mix things up by actually having Lillian and Gregory two beings with one soul who are the Mother & Father God's avatars. Forever reborn and destined to be together but never allowed to be together. I'm just so confused. And to be honest, I kind of fazed out towards the end.
I'm going to give the author a second chance. I happen to own the first 3 books and this was her first book written, adding the fact that book 2 came out 5 years later, I'd like to think she gets better.

What a ride! Despite the fact that there were a few minor things that irked me (and I still do not like Cat all that much...), this was a fun read and I enjoyed figuring things out along with the characters. Lots of shenanigans, lots of banter and so much history that is still not completely uncovered. There is quite a bit of world building that I still want to see but I like that the reader doesn't know everything the second the book is opened. I prefer discovering things as I go along, especially if one of the characters has just as little clue about the world as the reader does. It makes it exciting and adventurous- for me anyway.
I am very much itching to pick up the second book right away because I really want to know what is next.
