For this task I read Heart of Darkness by Joseph Conrad. The setting and all the elucubration of Marlowe happens on a boat during the shipping on an African river.

Just read Manhattan Transfer to fulfill this one

It's a super short read. I didn't particularly care for it. Not sure why it's on the list.

certainly! love the creativity
certainly! love the creativity
Heart of Darkness No creativity here. The whole story is about a journey by steam boat up an African river.
The autobiographer in Promise at Dawn is a navigator in the French Air Force during WWII. He and his various planes see some adventure.
Orlando by Virginia Woolf. Orlando rides horses, ice skates, joins a traveling gypsy party, sails, drives a car and travels through time
The Driver's Seat by Muriel Spark. This book was amazing! One of my favorites that I've read on the list this year. Very short and captivating. 5 stars.
China Mieville - Railsea. Love this book centred around a…well sea of railways with a rather huge nod to Moby Dick in the shape of a giant, mutated, albino mole.

Railsea is not a LIST book. But Moby-Dick certainly is. This challenge is designed to be done with books from Boxall's book, 1001 Books You Must Read Before You Die.
Try this link if you need a copy of the list.

I finished Mrs 'Arris Goes to Paris. It opens on her flying to Pariss. I remember reading this years ago and it is a lovely story. It also very evocative of post-war Britain.
