Allison Ann | 1245 comments Well everyone. We are basically done our regular UNO hands. We need a 1 card, an 8 card and Anubha, Lindsay and Celia need to finish their coloured covers and we are finished. Told you we'd have no problem finishing! :D

We do still need books for the mini-challenge though. So please continue to read and link books for that. Thanks everyone, great work.

Awesome, I will use that. :)

Jane | 297 comments If average rating above 4 for mini challenge works I’ve just added it for all my recent books as they all fit that.

I'm glad that audiobooks work for you. I can't imagine working while listening. I can barely manage them during mindless activity like washing dishes. :D You must have a better brain than me.

It's not my first choice, but it is definitely better than MPG Fiction. :D

Jane | 297 comments I’m not liking The Unbearable Lightness of Being! Not my kind of book, I find it boring.

Most of the things to link it to is allready mentioned in post 239

Invasion is the only other link I’ve noticed.

I’ve only got 70 pages left but I don’t think I’ll manage to finish it tonight.

Non-fiction is judged a little differently. We aren't allowed to use characters, the exception being if the book is a memoir about one person and they aren't already the author. So, your book will work for author. :)

Any way to link it to our mini-challenge book? Is the therapist a medical doctor? Anyone dealing with infidelity or estrangement from a child?

No problem, we still have plenty of time. It was a terribly boring and pretentious book, wasn't it? Surprised I remembered as much as I did.

What kind of invasion are we talking about?

message 263: by Jane (new)

Jane | 297 comments I think he is using a real invasion.

Soviet and Warsaw invaded in 1968 Czechoslovakia

and that is used in the book and the MC flee to I think Switzerland.
A while after he returned he is removed as a doctor because he won’t sign a pro Russian statement which is why he ends up as a window cleaner

Lindsay | 38 comments Hey guys, sorry to be so late. I haven't gotten the chance to update the tracking sheet, but I'm currently reading my coloured book, A Man Called Ove. Hopefully I'll get it done before the weekend ends.

Anyone have plans for this weekend? Planning on going for a nice hike!

The Unbearable Lightness of Being by Milan Kundera The Unbearable Lightness of Being

Now I need a very light read to get over that.

No worries Lindsay, we still have another week. Hope you enjoy the book and your hike.

message 268: by Allison Ann (new)

Allison Ann | 1245 comments Update for mini-challenge. Here are a few of those linking possibilites.

Possible links - the professions of the MCs - doctor, professor, painter. Another one changes professions often. There's a wedding, the breakup of a marriage, MC leaves his wife and child, lots of infidelity, some romantic stalking. The MCs move to a different country. There are deaths in a car accident. A suicide attempt. Estranged child. One country invading another.

Celia (cealcrest) Would you say this is at least 50% green? (I have it in person and the color is green, just not sure about it being at least half.)
The Children of Green Knowe (Green Knowe, #1) by Lucy M. Boston

I just finished it and we could use it for the other Green 1 if you all think it's green enough.

Allison Ann | 1245 comments Good morning/evening team! Hope everyone had a good weekend.

We are finished all our UNO cards, except the two that Celia and Lindsay are finishing! Way to go everyone.

We have 12 books left in the mini. We probably have 12 finished books with ratings above 4.0, but I am trying to diversify our selections a bit. So if you can find some different choices, that would be awesome.

Things to look for - published in 1984, one country invading another, U adjective in title, MC estranged from their child, MC dies in a car accident, failed suicide attempt, MC loses their medical licence, MC is a painter, translated to English, author initials M.K., author named Milan, etc.

Thanks all!

I am currently reading a book published in 1984, an author named Milan and a MC who is a painter. :D
