Celia (cealcrest) I can read The Kentuckians (Kentuckians, #1) by Janice Holt Giles and/or Black The Birth of Evil (The Circle, #1) by Ted Dekker for either/both those two green ones.

I could never do without a weekend off! Honestly mad respect.

I work as a software developer, so very different from tourism. I've only just graduated so I'm only just starting out my career.

Hi Jennifer and welcome. UNO is a really easy game to play. Basically you just read whatever you want and keep track of some info while you read. We are looking for the letters Z, O, T, H, F, I, S, V, E, N, K, P for titles and authors and speaking characters and possibly locations (though admittedly those are tough to prove and I often skip them). We also need standalone books and those with series numbers 1-9. And we need a few coloured covers. If you look at the first few posts in this thread, I've given an example of a book with options.

It might seem a little confusing but once we start playing I promise it will all make sense.

So tell us a little about yourself and lets hurry up and get to February 1st. :D

Congrats on your graduation Lindsay. I'm a bit of a workaholic I admit, although you generally have to be owning your own businesses. Plus getting hit by Covid means fewer employees and doing everything myself. This is my slow season though, which means only 5-6 hours a day instead of the 15 I usually work during the summer. But I generally love what I do. And now I need to pack up my morning baking and do the deliveries and then coffee break time. Have a good day all. I'll be back later.

Thank you so much for the explanation, that helps. I am a 56 year old with three almost grown sons. I live in Houston, Texas and have been married 32 years. I currently volunteer with Child Advocates and advocate for 8 children that are in CPS care. Covid has been especially hard on children in care and I spend a fare amount of time advocating for their needs. I find reading to be extremely relaxing and tend to enjoy mysteries, or anything that is action packed.

What a tough job you have Jennifer. Glad that reading is your escape. :D I'm a mystery reader too. One thing I forgot to mention was the Reverse cards - we have to read a book that someone else on our team has already read. Easiest way to check is to "compare books" on your teammates profile page.

Okay, can you recommend any books that suit the cards? Previous year, some captains did give 3-4 options for each card to choose from..
How is Heir of Fire for 3 Green?

Hi Anubha. I'd be happy to look through your TBR and see if I can recommend some colours for you. I should have time later today. Captain's group says that both of your two previous books don't have enough colour to count. But Heir of Fire (Throne of Glass, #3) by Sarah J. Maas will absolutely work for 3 Green, if you want to read it I will sign you up.

Oh no, I didn't mean to ask you to select books from individual TBRs. That would be hell lot of work, I can't possibly ask you to do that. Anyway, okay then sign me up for this book. For other books I will post all the details here or on the tracking chart as and when I finish reading it when the challenge starts so you can suitably pick and choose which books fit in for which card.

I don't mind. I haven't looked to see how big your TBR it, but I can certainly glance through it while I am doing other things. Also, here are some captain suggestions, which you can take a look at.

red covers
yellow covers
green covers
blue covers

Thanks Jessamine. I really like this series, but for some reason I need a solid reason to read the next one. I can never just pick it up for enjoyment. Weird.

I have never worked in publishing, though I had a pretty nice proofreading business back in university. Long before autocorrect. :D I'm also a part time small town librarian and I love the job. It's definitely a changing job though. Though I guess with Covid, most jobs are changing now. Good luck figuring things out.

Thank you! But sadly even within these recs there is no book which will fit 6 Red. That's why I had asked about the book earlier. 6 Red is difficult to find.

Another cold and sunny day here. Beautiful sunrise. Wish I was a good picture taker, but I am sadly not. :D

Allison Ann | 1245 comments Any plans for this weekend team? As usual, I am working. We've had cold weather all week and it's finally warmed up today. Which of course means it is snowing. :D Hopefully I can get out for a walk later today. In reality my walk will probably just be shoveling. :D Have a great day all.

message 94: by Allison Ann (new)

Allison Ann | 1245 comments 37 hours until the challenge starts. Does anyone have questions about how we play?

message 95: by Lindsay (new)

Lindsay | 38 comments Hi Alison! Just had a question about the Hands. From the rules it says we have to read each hand at the time before we can move to the next hand, but we haven’t been looking at Hand 1 books besides the coloured ones.

Just a little confused. Could you please explain it by any chance?

message 96: by Allison Ann (new)

Allison Ann | 1245 comments Hi Lindsay, no problem. UNO really is an easy challenge that looks ridiculously confusing until you start playing. After you fill in a book or two, it will all make sense.

We don't have to read the hands in order, but we don't get credit for Hand 2 until we finish Hand 1, etc, etc. So, I will not be filling in the hands in order, but I promise we will finish all the hands during the month. It always looks daunting, but I have never seen a team not finish. So, again, read whatever you want, keep track of what cards the books will work for and I will rearrange them to finish all our hands.
