Sheridan Walund | 10 comments Hi all! My name is Sheridan, and I am very excited to be a part of this group! I am from Northern Nevada and just recently graduated from college. My friends had been talking about making a club, and never did, so I decided to do some research and stumbled upon this group, which I believe is a perfect fit for me! I plan on getting a Kindle in the near future (because I have books overflowing from shelves), so any suggestions/recommendations for eReaders would be appreciated as well! I am excited to be here!

Sharon Hopper | 2430 comments Welcome, Sheridan! I am glad you found this supportive group. I have a Kindle and love it. I like hard copy books too, but I am being more selective as to the ones I keep. I hope this helps some.

Kristie | 19195 comments Welcome, Sheridan! I also have a Kindle (a really old first generation Kindle Fire) and I love it. I hope you find the ereader that works best for you.

Janice (jamasc) | 59973 comments Welcome Sheridan. I use the Kindle app on my iPad. Works like a charm.

message 56: by Jenn (new)

Jenn | 3029 comments Welcome Sheridan 😃 and I am with Janice on this one, I used to use an older series Kindle, but once I got my iPad with Kindle app, I never looked back. But, definitely do the research to find the best fit for your reading/lifestyle.

Peggy (pebbles84) | 15868 comments Hi Sheridan!

I have a Kobo, but an ereader is one of the best things I ever bought! I do miss the feel of a paper book after reading a few books in a row on my ereader, so I still buy paper books too. Mostly second hand though, unless they're books I know I'll love and want to keep.

message 59: by [deleted user] (new)

Hi Sheridan! Welcome to the group ;-)

I am a kindle user too. I have the paperwhite which I absolutely love as it is so light. I then have the kindle app on my phone for when I am out and about. I also have the kindle fire but I don't use it for reading as the paperwhite is much more reader friendly.

I love my physical books too but an ereader is so portable and it doesn't hurt if you fall asleep reading a huge book lol.

Jocelyn (jocelyn91) Hello everyone! My reading journey is a bit unusual, but I've recently dived right in and started reading books I don't think I would have ever picked up in the past. Reading leisurely isn't something I have done all my life, and college definitely ruined any love of it, until about a month ago when I decided I wanted to read more. I'm not a very quick reader, but I enjoy a good book. I recently finished Caste: The Origins of Our Discontents and started Greenlights.

I'm intrigued by this groups monthly & yearly challenges. The yearly challenge seems quite overwhelming, but I've been going through the posts to learn- not sure I will complete it, but maybe I'll use this year to dabble and learn until next year. As well, I am new to GR so I'm learning that curve as well. I look forward to seeing what this group brings to my life and having discussions with you all.

Kristie | 19195 comments Welcome to the group, Jocelyn! The yearly challenge can look overwhelming, but it's a lot of fun once you figure it out. We all look forward to the big reveal of the new challenge for the next year at the end of the year. I'm sure you'll catch on quickly to it. The best way to figure it out is to look at the other threads, then jump in and give it a go. Feel free to ask questions and we'll help you out where we can. We're a friendly group. :)

message 62: by Janice, Moderator (new)

Janice (jamasc) | 59973 comments Welcome Jocelyn. I can see how required reading can be a deterrent and hopefully you'll find some great enjoyable reads in the group.

I recently finished one our 2 themed reads, The House in the Cerulean Sea which I absolutely loved. It's such a delightful book with a great message.

Our annual challenges are set up to be accessible to all reading speeds. The challenge is for 16 books (usually it's 12, but I upped it a bit this year). There are more stages to the challenge for those who are fast readers. If you break it down that way, it's not so intimidating. I hope you try it out, even if you set a goal for yourself of 2 museums (8 books) if you don't feel you could read 16 in 6 months.

Hey Janice! Nice to meet you. I'm am really impressed with this challenge you have put together, I've been sharing with friends & family! I think I'll be able to complete 16 books though.

Hi Jocelyn, Sheridan and all the other others who joined over the past few months and are old hands by now! This is a great group and we love to get new blood 😉

message 67: by Rusalka, Moderator (new)

Rusalka (rusalkii) | 19212 comments Welcome Jocelyn! Glad you have found us and have jumped all in.

I agree with the others, I found all the activities a bit daunting when I joined the group. But you just find one you like, work it out as you go, ask questions (people are super friendly here), and just read! As in the end, the main aim is to get you reading. If you read something "wrong" for a task or activity, you are still reading!! And that's the ultimate goal!!

But thank you also. As although I have been here for 10 years, and am a mod, I thought I had to read 24 books for the first badge in the yearly. Your discussion has taught me I'm a numpty and need to only read 16 books. Woot!!!

Rusalka (rusalkii) | 19212 comments LOL Well. Where you could blame that MAJOR diplomatic blunder squarely on autocorrect if you so wished, and would be plausible, this is 100% me getting myself confused and forgetting how to count AND read.

My son told me the other day that I'm not totally "with it" because I stopped dead in my tracks to put my hotel key in my wallet instead of walking while I was doing it and potentially walking into something. He might be happy to know I keep good company.

message 72: by Rusalka, Moderator (new)

Rusalka (rusalkii) | 19212 comments That is completely and utterly sensible. God knows what he gets up to while he's recklessly walking and pocketing items at the same time.

At least you have an excuse if you run into things while you are putting things in your pocket. I just run into things and trip over air. What my excuse? :)

message 75: by Janice, Moderator (new)

Janice (jamasc) | 59973 comments LOL! Today when I was getting my vaccine, the young pharmacist was talking away and forgot what he was saying in mid sentence. I laughed and said, "Thank you for having a brain fart. It makes me feel more normal."

Hello lovely people! I found this group after searching for a bookish platform. I wanted a site where I could record the books I read etc., and hadn't realized there would be a whole host of groups to join too.

I was a huge reader in my middle grade years. I loved the Babysitters Club, Sweet Valley High, Nancy Drew and R.L. Stine books but then my reading tapered off when I went on to high school, college and finally a full time job.

I love books, I love the thought of reading lots and lots of books, I just never make the time. So here I am ☺.

I plan to get stuck in straight away, with a weekend of reading ahead of me and look forward to spending time with you all.

message 78: by Margo (new)

Margo | 11656 comments Welcome Kathryn 😃 It can be hard to find time for everything. I must have read all the Nancy Drew when I was younger too. Look forward to chatting with you!

message 79: by Kristie, Moderator (new)

Kristie | 19195 comments Welcome, Kathryn! I can relate to that. My reading has decreased or even stopped temporarily a few times over the years. There were several years when my kids were young that I couldn't finish a single book. I'm happily reading a bunch now. :) I hope you find a couple of great books to help you get back into the swing of it.

anna (annabanana04) hie all~
my name is anna and I’m from India.
I joined this group because:
。it looked fun haha
。I want to be consistent with my reading habits
sometimes I’m a voracious reader and then there are periods of reading slumps.
I hope by joining in the challenges conducted here I can integrate discipline into my reading :)

PS: my favourite genre is mystery/thriller 🕵️‍♀️

message 86: by Margo (new)

message 95: by Sasha (new)

Sasha | 4 comments Hi I’m Sasha

I stopped reading for roughly like 4 years when I left school but that motivation to pick it all up just hit me recently.
I’d love to get way more involved in book communities so I don’t lose the love of reading I have again.
A bit about me, I’m 21 and just finishing up an adult nursing degree in September, I’m new to everything about book clubs and buddy reads so I apologise if I come across as aloof I just generally have no clue what’s going on haha.

Sasha | 4 comments Thank you all, I just find the way it’s all organised on the goodreads app quite confusing. I don’t even know where to start getting involved! lol

message 100: by Janice, Moderator (new)

Janice (jamasc) | 59973 comments I think the best way to access the website is on a full browser. The app is really hard. To you have access to a computer?
