Finally! I have met Sebastian St. Cyr! His first adventure, in What Angels Fear by C.S. Harris, is an atmospheric murder mystery in 19th century England.

Not a mystery specifically, but it's full of mysteries. What a fantastic cover and what an odd book. The 1800s were full of fortune-hunters, in all senses of the word, all over the world. Fortune by Aussie author Lenny Bartulin is wild historical fiction.
