This addition to the Sherlock Holmes canon is based on the premise that some of Holmes' acquaintances and colleagues wrote stories about the detective in their letters, diaries, journals, and scrapbooks.

The Four Last Things by Timothy Hallinan

Simeon Grist #1. Simeon is a PI in LA who gets involved with a phony church. I liked the book very much (I'm a big fan of Hallinan's other series). It reads almost like a PI novel from the 30's or 40's, very entertaining. I'll definitely be reading #2 in the series.

Just finished Collateral Damage by Stuart Woods. I find this series, Stone Barrington, to be very entertaining. Pretty good mysteries and this one had good action, as well. While Woods isn't really in the same class as Michael Connelly or Jo Nesbø, they are still very good. And, as I say, very entertaining.

Next up": Children of Time by Adrian Tchaikovsky, a book that I've heard a lot about recently.
