I've just finished a really good nonfiction read, The Gold Machine: In the Tracks of the Mule Dancers, by Iain Sinclair. Now about to start Born of No Woman by Franck Bouysse.

Just finished JL Burke's Black Cherry Blues #3 in his Dave Robicheaux series, having missed this one before reading #4. Another 4 star read for me in this series and the complex character of the MC. Burke known for evocative descriptions of the La. bayou regions, has Robicheaux headed to Montana for most of the action and you can visualize that area and the people just as well.

The Way it is Now, by Aussie author Garry Disher, is the latest addition to his popular mysteries. Small, unspoiled beach town, old disappearance (crime?), and old wounds make for good reading.

The Rat Catchers' Olympics by Colin Cotterill

Dr. Siri #12, recommend some familiarity with the characters. It's 1980, the Olympics are in Moscow, the US and its allies are boycotting so there's room for a team from Laos. Naturally Dr. Siri finagles a spot and naturally there's a killer somewhere. Another wonderful Dr. Siri mystery, great series. 4 stars.

Death at Victoria Dock is #4 in the Phryne Fisher mystery series by Aussie author Kerry Greenwood, and I enjoyed it as much as the previous adventures of this clever siren and amateur detective in 1920s Australia.
