Jean | 358 comments Whew! I might need to slow down with Paige Shelton's Alaska Wild series because I just finished #2, Cold Wind Cold Wind (Alaska Wild Mysteries, #2) by Paige Shelton , and was also recently approved by NetGalley for #3, Dark Night. It's a very entertaining mystery series, but I'd better pace myself!

Chief Inspector Armand Gamache provides security for a controversial visiting lecturer, and someone is eventually murdered.

Not a wholly successful addition to the series, but it's always a pleasure to visit Three Pines. 3 stars

PattyMacDotComma | 920 comments Tim Winton is one of Australia's best and most-awarded authors and an all-time favourite of mine. An Open Swimmer was his first novel, written when he was still at uni, and his writing was already magic. I had some trouble with the story.

I first read this book a bunch of years ago. Now, I'm beginning to believe that my tastes have changed since them. I really liked it back then, but, years of reading Michael Connelly, Jo Nesbo, John Sanford and others may have altered my tastes.

James Best (jamesbest) | 299 comments Just started A TIME TO SCATTER STONES (2018) by Lawrence Block.

This is a 150 page novella that continues the long running Matthew Scudder mystery series, which had been on hiatus for over a decade before this new story was published. I'm enjoying it a lot so far, as I had forgotten how much I liked both the author and his most famous character.

I wish the author could find more time to write additional Scudder novels, or at least give us some more of his fictional erudite and humorous burglar Bernie Rhodenbarr. But I am not holding my breath...

We liked it and do recommend it. There were 122 pax, ship rated at 140 pax. River cruises are more expensive than ocean cruises, but drinks and many excursions included. No sea days.
