PattyMacDotComma | 920 comments Apples Never Fall is the latest from Aussie author Liane Moriarty. It's a family tree of tennis players, the kind of varied group of characters she's so well-known for. I wish I'd liked it better.

Araych | 676 comments A Dead Man in Athens A Dead Man in Athens (Seymour of Special Branch, #3) by Michael Pearce by Michael Pearce

Seymour of Special Branch #3, OK to read as a stand-alone but probably best to read the 1st in the series 1st. It's 1912. Seymour of the Yard is sent to Athens because someone has poisoned the Sultan's cat. Is this a training exercise for someone to poison the Sultan himself? The series is light and fun with a bit of history and geography added. I like the series and this entry is so far the best. 4 stars, highly recommended.

James Best (jamesbest) | 299 comments Now starting IN PALE BATTALIONS by Robert Goddard. This is one of his mystery/thriller stand-alone novels from the late 80’s. A few weeks ago I read his novel LONG TIME COMING (2010) and really enjoyed it, so I thought I would sample some of his earlier stuff.

I wish those were available in digital format along with the books he wrote as Madeleine Brent

and to stay on topic, I finished reading the three Caleb Zelic books (Book 1 was one of the BOTM books) by Emma Viskic and thought they were pretty good

I found the series at a Rotary Club Book Sale a few years back.. Well, most of them. I've had to order the remainder to get the whole series.

Brady Coyne #5, OK to read as a stand-alone. Brady does a favor for an old client and goes up to Maine to check out the possible sale of the fishing camp there. I like the series and this one was fine but certainly nothing special.

What a treat, I found a Westlake I'd never read. Like Christmas morning. Meehan, being a professional burglar, is in jail. Some political types get him out to help in their campaign. It doesn't go like they had planned. I love the way Westlake writes. 4 stars.
