Araych | 676 comments The Burning Soul The Burning Soul (Charlie Parker, #10) by John Connolly by John Connolly

Charlie Parker #10, OK to read as a stand-alone. A young girl has been taken and Parker is hired to work the case. I'm a big fan of the Charlie Parker series and this one might be the best. Stronger mystery plotting than many. Highest recommendation, 5 stars.

Patterson doesn't write most of his books. It's been that way for a long time.

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 440 comments Finished Dead Reckoning - never read anything from this author, it's one I bought from the library for 15p years ago, but I quite enjoyed it, nice short chapters which made you want to go 'just one more'. I did guess a couple of things along the way, but I would read more of hers if I came across them.

Araych | 676 comments The Fugitive Pigeon The Fugitive Pigeon by Donald E. Westlake by Donald Westlake

Bartender is mistaken for a killer and tries to clear himself with the mob in an early (1965) humorous crime story by the master, Donald Westlake. Cute story, good but not great. 3 stars.

In this 13th book in the Kate Burkholder series, the Police Chief investigates the brutal murder of a woman she knew in the past.

It's always fun to read these books set in Amish country. 3 stars

Araych | 676 comments Unleashed Unleashed (Andy Carpenter #11) by David Rosenfelt by David Rosenfelt

Andy Carpenter #11, OK to read as a stand-alone. A guy hits a dog with his car and that starts a string of complications that end up in a multiple-murder conspiracy. The dog ends up OK -- basic rule of mystery writing: ok to kill people, not ok to kill dogs. I think this is one of the better Andy Carpenter books; I really liked it. Fun, likeable characters and an interesting fast-moving plot. 4 stars.

Araych | 676 comments A Dead Man in Istanbul A Dead Man in Istanbul (Seymour of Special Branch, #2) by Michael Pearce by Michael Pearce

Seymour of Special Branch #2, OK to read as a stand-alone. Seymour is sent to Istanbul to investigate the murder of a member of the British embassy there. I had trouble with the Turkish names and also with the geography; a map might have been helpful. Also the plot was generally slow going, only 2 stars.

CBRetriever | 2551 comments I finished my 92nd book which was Silenced and before that I finished The Fox by Sólveig Pálsdóttir. Not bad and set in Iceland which was a plus for me as I like Northern European to Greenland type mysteries.

I love it when people in this thread put a little bit about the book in their posts - that way, if you do link to a review and your sentence or two piques my interest, I'll then read the review. There's a thread like this one on the SF&F forum where I get a lot of ideas as to what to read next and that thread requires one to post a line or two about the book.

I'm a huge David Mark fan and I treated myself to the books in the series I still haven't read. This one is as good as the others, with a big surprise at the end.
