You might be wondering how could you rate a disappointment 4 stars, Trisha and you're right. I'm not exactly sure but it has a number of reasons.

Its mainly stems from the hype that surrounds this book. The fact that this won in the Best Romance category of the 2020 GR choice awards. The fact that no one told me this had vampires.

Let me make something clear. Vampires and me just don't vibe. We're like the same poles of a magnet. We repel each other. Vampires are just not my thing. If that feral, animalistic urge and bloodthirstiness with sex is your thing, then read this book and you'll love it. Nothing can go wrong in this for you.

Don't get me wrong, I loved all of SJM's books. All that fae thing? Completely up my alley. That kind of animalistic urges is different somehow, and I'm not sure why exactly, but vampires just don't cut it for me.

And so I was really disappointed when (view spoiler)[ the guy nearly forced her to become a vampire and I don't know but that rubbed me the wrong way. I'm usually all for that turning into something else and sacrificing some part of their humanity/mortality to save them, but I just didn't like that here. Maybe because she was being turned into a VAMPIRE, the likes of which do not vibe with me.

And that would would have been okay except she turns into this like weirdly horny vampire and they have this weird feeling each other hotness thing (my fingers are literally crying as I type this out) and then it's just so weird somehow.

Like two seconds ago you hated the guy and now you're crawling all over him.

And I was really looking forward to the angst that this might have incorporated about all that him being a vampire which I had more or less guessed too ...more or less being the key word here BUT STILL.

And this book went and turned it into this sex-fest which was not I was here for. I mean, yes, those were pretty good sex scenes, but where is the emotional attraction in here!??! Why do most books like this just turn into like a collection of sex scenes like the only thing that's carrying on the plot is the sex!?! Why can't we have more scenes that are just soft and fluffy?!?!

That first scene was great, because it was like, the buildup in it, and the ones after it were just so forced because she hated the guy now. I get that she loves him but I don't think she should have been having sex with him so fast after he literally just almost came clean about lying about everything.

The amount of times I've typed sex....*shakes head* (hide spoiler)]

Anyway the first 80% of this was like a dream come true....we had this badass female character who goes about killing people, has the telepathy/empathy-like powers, is isolated and not allowed to do anything, is abused regularly, but is fighting back; I mean, what could go wrong!??!

What is it that could ruin this?

And the ere wrre so many good scenes in sp cially th e fighting scenes becaue e th is aut or had a lot of talent wrotingfihgting scenes. I ahd so much fun reading them they have the right amount of violence and bqdassnes combin d with the theqst and periodically the rwlith of ewall injusry and I loev those secewnes.

I loevd it when she killed that lord mazeen or whatever and tht scene was just amazing except for the fact that her fwyejr figure had to die in that scene too.

I started out lovignn haekweven after that problematic beginning scene when he didn't get up when he was asked to the hich is ev n creepier considering what we know from the end since he knew exactly who she was.

But when he was like this arrogant asshole without thw vulnerability and excessive cockiness bordering on creepiness I ahd to stop. I still like the ahwkw part of him, sowmwhwt but I'll reserve complete judgment for whe. I read the next book. Whoich u wilm read bit prwferavley after it's been a f w week s since I read this.

This is in no way the best romance of this ueatf.at least on my opionion.ifwlt thatthe tohers eeharless of thwyehr I decide dto vote for hem but definitely better and

On the whe a good book but one that was juet not for me. I recommend it to anyone who likes romqnce a lot of s x scene vampires badass femal character sfofhting stuff andkilling people characters with twlepaty empatyhy like powers good love ineteese l till they turn out to be arrogant asshole vampirws (hide spoiler)]
