I'll be reading the The Starfarers Quartet for this prompt.
Philip Reeves' Mortal Engines series will most likely be the quartet I read for this challenge. I've been wanting to read it for more than a year.

In terms of your Peter Brett question: no, please feel free to finish the series you've already started with this challenge, no need to start new ones.
We appreciate you understanding! The challenges folder is for official group challenges, which are mod-supported and tracked and what all. We have all the challenges we can support right now, and don't want to overwhelm the group (including us!) with more. But this sounds fun, hope you all have a good time ^^

Thanks, that works for me

It's enough to be caught up with it! :-)

I'd say yes, unless you want to do this hard mode style. ;-)

I'll edit this post later with more details.

I'm fine with both. I recall the book quite vividly (which is strange, cause I usually forget everything - but I guess my brain was a lot better in my youth), but I would join a re-read as well without problems.

New to me Author: Green Man (read book 1 and 2 of 3)
Debut Author: Shadows of the Apts (read book 1 - 7 of 10)
Fantasy: Riddlemaster of Hed or Chronicles of Tonor (both read book 1 of 3)
Genre Bender: New Corbuzon (read book 1 of 3)
Quartet: Tales of the Apt (have to start yet)
Longer Series: The Wheel of Time (changed from "The Witcher")
For the icons I have to re-read the initial post when the time comes.

Fave author: The Age of Madness (2/3) - awaiting publication
SF: Planetfall (2/4)
Longer series: The Expanse (8/9) - awaiting publication
ETA: Assuming I can do diagonal....
I'll be reading the final book of The Expanse series on release. It's the one book that I refuse to die before reading. I feel that strongly about it.

You can! Your prize for a diagonal will be a hipster cat: 🐱👓
@Gabi, it definitely gets better in my eyes. I know you struggle with Space Operas though so maybe there are aspects to the series that you won't like. Book 4 in the series is predominantly based on a planets surface though so hopefully it appeals to you more.
At the end of book 2 the authors sat down with their publisher/editor/someone in the industry to discuss whether to make the series a trilogy or a longer series. So what you may have found with the third book was them laying the groundwork for what was then decided to be a ten book series. Some padding added as things were removed to be explored properly in a later novel.
It's no Planetfall, but The Expanse is up there amongst my favourite scifi series to date.

Yeah, I wondered that myself.
I figure it was just a "shelving error". Like going to a little bookstore and finding Le Guin in the "G" books and not the "L" books.

The Inda series is an amazing epic fantasy.
(I keep bringing it up in threads hoping I can rally enough people to eventually do a BR.) (You probably won't like it if you don't like big casts of characters or confusing names. There's also a bit of head hopping, but I personally didn't find it too bothersome.)
Also Tamora Pierce writes lots of quartets! Her books are quick reads, too. The first books in a few of her quartets:
Alanna: The First Adventure
Wild Magic
First Test
It's better if you read them chronologically (starting with Alanna) but I think you can still enjoy them read out of order.

I wasn't starting the Chronicles of Tornor DivaDiane. I think you got confused because I'm reading the Starfarer's Quartet too.

Favorite Author: Terry Pratchett "Discworld" (but it's going to be so sad... :( I've read most of the books and finishing the last one will be heartwrenching).
New to me Author: "The Poppy War" by R.F. Kuang if I decide to read the series after the first book.
Debut Author: no idea. I think I'll look at what you guys are reading and see if it matches something I have to finish or want to read.
Fantasy: Oh, a looot to choose from. I think I'll choose "Luck in the Shadows" or "Dancing Gods". I've read only the first books in both series.
Science Fiction: "The Expanse". I'm rereading the first one at the moment.
Genre Bender: Kate Elliott's "Crown of Stars" fantasy/alternative history.
Trilogy: I think I'll pick some Polish fantasy.
Quartet: Duology of duologies: Hyperion/Endymion by Dan Simmons. I have both Endymion books to go.
Longer Series: Andre Norton's "The Witch World" (all settings and all short stories) that's a project!

It sure is. If you need to shorten it at any time, you could always leave out the co-written books. They're not as good as far as I'm concerned (or not in quite the same style) and I'm not sure if it's just her name on them and someone else's writing inside

Yes, there are some books by Lyn McConchie. I decided I'll try one or two. I can always cut them out.

have you watched the BBC series of Sharpe? Sean Bean is Sharpe and the supporting caste is quite good.
