Heather L (wordtrix) | 780 comments Just finished Where the Red Fern Grows by Wilson Rawls. Still sniffling, but highly recommend. 😢

Tania | 678 comments Heather L wrote: "Another good one: Never Cry Wolf: The Amazing True Story of Life Among Arctic Wolves by Farley Mowat"

This is the one I went with - it was a reread for me, but 40 years apart, and while I still liked it, my perspective on the story and the narrator was completely different as an adult than I remembered as a child.

Adriana (atsimoes) | 10 comments Does The Four Winds by Kristen Hannah fit here?

message 105: by Tessa (new)

Tessa | 13 comments I went with Into Thin Air: A Personal Account of the Mount Everest Disaster by Jon Krakauer. Great nonfiction book and takes place pretty much entirely outside. I listened to the audiobook and I'd recommend. I think The Girl in Red might also fit but there are indoor moments so it might be a stretch. Great book though.

message 106: by Donna (new)

Donna | 8 comments If you like thrillers/mysteries the around 75% of Shiver by Allie Reynolds takes place in the mountains/snowboarding slopes.

Veena Soujanya (veenasoujanya) | 23 comments Will "Wayward Son" by Rainbow Rowell work for this prompt? Wayward Son (Simon Snow, #2) by Rainbow Rowell

message 108: by Heather (new)

Heather Addai (heatheraddai) | 11 comments I read Where the Crawdads Song by Delia Owens for this prompt.

message 109: by Caroline (new)

Caroline Sundholm | 1 comments Would you all consider The Four Winds for this prompt? It’s mostly set outdoors but didn’t see it on the list.

message 110: by Jenn (new)

Jenn Neely (jennersmecom) | 50 comments I finished The Yellow Bird Sings for this prompt. This historical fiction is Jennifer Rosner's debut novel. It is set during WWII and is about a mother and daughter fleeing from Nazi soldiers. This is a book about longing and survival. For historical fiction fans or WWII enthusiast, I would recommend this book!

Brigette (texasbee) Iditarod Dreamer: A Rookie Team’s Journey is about Hank DeBruin's set up and first run at the Iditarod - almost all of it is outside on the trails. You can get a copy for free in PDF form from Winterdance Kennels too (I got mine from their FB page.) I really enjoyed it and it's apropos as the Iditarod starts March 7, 2021.

I suggest you read the comment above yours. 😉

Brigette (texasbee) Icebound by Andrea Pitzer is definitely outdoors. (Brrrrrr.)

message 114: by Lilith (new)

Lilith (lilithp) | 1086 comments World of Wonders: In Praise of Fireflies, Whale Sharks, and Other Astonishments. I found this on (one of) my library website, and thought the cover was a gorgeous wreath of flowers. I added it to my TBR for “prettiest book”. I got the physical book, and it is a wreath of mostly animals!

World of Wonders In Praise of Fireflies, Whale Sharks, and Other Astonishments by Aimee Nezhukumatathil

But I loved that: the cover features an axolotl, one of my favorite creatures, and a corpse flower, so I was hooked. It’s a collection of essays that will not necessarily work for everyone. If you are a poet or a lateral thinker, you will *love* it. I did. Award winning poet Aimee Nezhukumatathil combines her personal memories, with great biology and environmental writing. I hope she writes more like this.

Mostly set outdoors, but also could work for prettiest book on
my ( updated) TBR

message 115: by Fannie (new)

Fannie D'Ascola | 439 comments I just thought about a book that I read as a teen. I saw the 1991's movie more than 20 times at that time too. :) Alive: The Story of the Andes Survivors

It's about a rugby team that crashed on the Andes and needed to survive on the mountain for quite some time.

message 116: by Stina (new)

Stina (stinalyn) | 464 comments I counted Maybe a Fox for this. It's not entirely outdoors, but one of the main characters is a fox, and all of the human characters are very outdoorsy folks. It easily qualifies as mostly outdoors. This is a middle grade story, so if you're doing Middle Grade March this month, you could use this for your "strong family elements" read.

message 117: by Harry (new)

Harry Patrick | 109 comments I used This Tender Land by William Kent Krueger. I gave it 5-stars. Don't do that very often.

Mel (Epic Reading) (mel-epicreading) I just finished The Snow Fell Three Graves Deep. A fictionalized account of the Donner Party with as much truth as is known. Excellent read, very must a prose/poem read and clever use of Hunger as a narrator.
Even if you include the one cabin 80% of this book is outdoors in the elements.

message 119: by Ashleigh (new)

Ashleigh Motbey (ashybear02) | 144 comments I am reading A Green and Ancient Light and feel it fits this prompt!

message 120: by Elizabeth (new)

Elizabeth (elizabeth1234561) | 31 comments i think Annihilation by Jeff VanderMeer works for this. it's primarily outdoors.

message 121: by Wendy (last edited May 04, 2021 09:10PM) (new)

Wendy (wendyneedsbooks) | 131 comments I made a List Challenge for outdoorsy books! (I love 'em.) If you're still looking for inspiration, maybe you'll find something there.

I plan to read The Cold Vanish: Seeking the Missing in North America's Wildlands for this prompt.

message 122: by Heather (new)

Heather (heatherbowman) | 910 comments I read Watership Down by Richard Adams for this prompt. I didn't read this book as a child, and I don't know if I would have loved it then. I think I got more out of it by reading it as an adult.

message 123: by LeahS (new)

LeahS | 492 comments I read 438 Days: An Extraordinary True Story of Survival at Sea by Jonathan Franklin. It is an amazing story of a Mexican fisherman adrift in the Pacific, and brings home the vastness of that ocean.

message 124: by Anshita (new)

Anshita (_book_freak) | 272 comments I'm reading Essex County, Vol. 1: Tales from the Farm for this prompt. I just started reading it, but at first glance, it looks like it is set mostly outdoors, on a farm in rural Canada.

I just saw this! Great list!! and I love that List Challenges site, so I couldn't resist, I checked off all I'd read. 18/200. And I enjoyed all of them, and I see quite a few others I want to read on your list.

I can recommend a few more books that I didn't see on the list, but you probably don't want to go past the nice round number of 200 (or maybe you can't edit those lists once they are published? Idk)
