They should work on a phone or any apple/android tablet though! :)

None of which are my e-ink Kindle, though, so....?

I really, REALLY don't like that one either and (sorry to the list creators) I'm not even going to bother with that prompt.

I also don't like the DNF prompt... like, why?? lol

Being that I have my own reading goals for next year, I probably won't finish the 2021 challenge, but we'll see what I come up with.

I just went back and edited my post (#100) and added about 7 different things you could do for different formats just through kindle ebooks :)

i am overwhelmed and i have lots of questions..
but when i check again i realize that i already read books that fit the prompts..
way to go!

thanks for the post

Jennifer T. (jent998) | 231 comments Try the books by Anne Bogel of the Modern Mrs Darcy blog site. I read her book “I’d rather be reading” last year for the challenge and it was great. I’m going to read her new book “don’t overthink it” for this prompt I think.

Jennifer (jsawyer71) | 7 comments If you’re looking for an internet blogger / blogger title for that prompt, check out Becoming Duchess Goldblatt by Anonymous. It was a great surprise!

message 109: by Amanda (new)

Amanda Del Brocco (adelbrocco) | 4 comments I think for the DNF prompt I am going to read a book that I did not finish because of the format that I originally used. I have a lot of books that I DNF because I don’t like the narration style but I think would work really well as text, and vice versa!

Kelly - Since you have only done the challenge for 2 years, maybe you could do the advanced prompts from a prior year's challenge?

message 111: by Caitie (new)

Caitie (caitiem) | 10 comments For anyone looking for a blogger/vlogger/youtuber book, Axiom's End by Lindsey Ellis would be a good option! I haven't read the book, but am planning to for this prompt. She is a great video essayist on youtube, and also does lots of videos for the PBS "It's Lit" youtube series.

An option for anyone without a TBR could be to use the bookshelf in this group, or any other goodreads group you're part of!

The 2021 prompts seem to be a lot more individual than this years ones - this year I was able to cover at least 2 prompts with almost every book I read, whereas this year I think I'll have to read a lot more! Which isn't a bad thing, it just makes the challenge trickier to complete when I usually only read about 25-30 books a year (this year being the exception to the rule!).

Tanu (tanu_reads) | 115 comments Not only do I agree with Kristy about the different format thing... I read in almost every format!

message 116: by K.L. (new)

K.L. Middleton (theunapologeticbookworm) | 847 comments I'm actually more excited about next year's advanced prompts than the rest of the list. One of my goals for next year is to put a sizeable dent in my TBR shelves, and it looks like I will be able to do so.

message 117: by Danielle (new)

Danielle | 4 comments I have an amazing Google document that someone made for 2020 that I used to track my reading this year. I can't remember where people post those documents for us to steal!

message 118: by Heather (new)

Heather (heatherbowman) | 903 comments I'm finding this list of prompts is really difficult to plan out. Last year, the books in my TBR fit into the prompts so easily. This year is a lot tougher. I thought about reading whatever I want, then seeing if a book fits a prompt, but this list looks so specific. I'm afraid I won't stumble upon what I need.

I was able to plan the advanced section really easily. I think I'll probably start there this year.

I'm starting early... 2020 kicked my tail and I bombed the challenge so I'm ready to start with a clean slate!

message 120: by Mandi (new)

Mandi Thomas (themandithomas) | 44 comments This is the most excited I've been about one of their lists. I am finding a ton of overlap with my TBR (and as always, new stuff to add along the way) and I really love that the advanced prompts focus on TBR as well.

message 121: by Rachelle (new)

Rachelle Renee Kirby (rachellereneekirby) | 29 comments So how are we supposed to figure out the longest and shortest books on our TBR list if said list has about 3000 books on it? 😂🤷

Cornerofmadness | 805 comments For some reason I am really not excited for this list of prompts. About half are exciting and the rest...not so much. I'm going to have to really think if I want to do it in 2021

message 127: by Marissa (new)

Marissa | 13 comments I don’t keep a TBR list, I tried years ago and it became super lengthy and unhelpful when actually wanting to find a book I wanted to read. Since the advance prompts all rely on having a TBR list I was wondering if anybody had a suggestion on how I could complete those prompts while remaining true to the spirit of them? Do I create a TBR list just for this year?

message 128: by Alicia (new)

Alicia | 125 comments Marissa, how do you normally choose books? Do you keep holds at the library? Have a shelf with books you've been meaning to get to? A favorite bookstore with recommendations?

╟ ♫ Tima ♪ ╣ ♥ (tsunanisaurus) | 2 comments I LOVE this year's prompts! There are a few I'm not so sure how I'll work into my reading but I'm excited for the challenge of finding something that works! Previously, I haven't really enjoyed "anonymously" published books, that one and "a book everyone seems to have read but you" will be the trickiest prompts for me this year. Usually if I haven't read an intensely popular book it's because I really don't want to XD

message 130: by Jen (new)

Jen (jentrewren) Hmm I might just do the advanced ones next year. I've done too many challenges the last few years and with working full-time and part-time and trying to have an actual life completing has started to feel like a chore. Reading should not be a chore (except marking/moderating). Doubt I'll finish this year's challenge TBH, at least not this year. I really want to just finish a series or 5 which I started before I started doing challenges so I think I'll do that for 6 months see if they fit anything then see where I'm at and if I want to complete. Might ask for advice on how to fit things in or kids versions if I'm trying to complete.

message 131: by Brandon (new)

Brandon Harbeke | 696 comments Thanks to the original list's recommendations and ideas from this community, I am down to just two prompts that I don't have a book for yet and a few others that are currently being filled by rereads or double dips. On the flip side, I have 24 books to add to my TBR so far, and I'm sure more will come as the listopias and recommendation threads get populated.

From where I sit, the 2021 challenge prompts have been successful in exposing me to some new ideas for books and being pretty fun overall.

Despina (tosodoula) | 24 comments Is there an easy way to find which is the longest or the shortest book in my TBR list? I mean, I have over 350 books on that list, I can't go looking into each one individually D:

Edit: nevermind, I saw someone has already asked this and they got a response :)

I feel the same way. I think I just may end up reading whatever I feel like (could this be the year of the mood reader for once??) and check off prompts as I go OR do an entirely different challenge.

If that link doesn't work, instead of slideshow or printable link, click "View on One Page", then they list all the prompts in the text of the article (if you scroll down). Does that help?

message 142: by Ruth (new)

Ruth Lanton (ruthla8) | 177 comments Well, I guess I'm not doing the "advanced challenge" prompts this year, even though I average over 100 books a year.

What's with EVERY single prompt assuming we all have long TBR lists? I pretty much make a list when I'm out of books and want to reserve some new ones. I don't even know what the cover will look like until it arrives. And DNF? If I don't finish a book, it's for a good reason. I'm not going to want to pick it back up (and it certainly won't still be on my TBR list!) Nothing typically sits on my TBR pile for more than a few weeks- why the assumption that I've had something that I meant to read last year and didn't get to? I don't plan my books that far ahead!

A book you've seen on somebody's bookshelf- well, you're somebody! A book where the main character works at your current or dream job- just let yourself have a short daydream about the job in one of your books, and there you go! Somewhere you'd like to visit in 2021? If you'd like to "visit" with any of the characters, nearly anything can work for that prompt. Bonus points if it's actually a real location that could be visited. Book by an online personality? See if any of the authors on your shelf has a Facebook or Twitter account.

With more thought, I think I can make these work. I've put off reading a lot of new books this year because I'm rereading all of the Dresden files. I'd tried to read Skin Game before the two new ones, and just couldn't get into the story from that point. I read about one page before giving up. If I make sure to delay rereading Skin Game until January (I may not get up to it anyway before then) then I'll count that as my DNF. And any one of the 2020 releases I didn't get to last year will count as a book I'd meant to read last year but didn't.

I'm still not happy about the number of TBR list books on this years challenge, but I think I can make it work.

I'm also irritated about that "other format" prompt. There's a good reason I never read graphic novels or audiobooks, and I just dislike ebooks in general.

It's already happening! Check out the Polls section for the first one, and the second poll is going live by Friday morning (in 20 minutes, technically, if I have read the site correctly).

Read the weekly check-in threads after they get posted on Thursdays for all the announcements of polls, voting, etc.

In an attempt to read books from my TBR I wanted to put them on a shelf but when I go to the lists of books I can't tell if the books on my list (I have like 6000 plus books on my TBR) or not. They all say want to read.
Is there a way to tell if a specific book(s) for a prompt is on my current TBR?
