Deduction 6 - Jessica Fletcher

I read Borrowing Blue (Made Marian, #1) by Lucy Lennox for the green cover, Midnight Vengeance (Men of Midnight, #1) by Lisa Marie Rice because of the gun and The Five: The Untold Lives of the Women Killed by Jack the Ripper where I learned more about Jack the Ripper's victims, so I can deduce that it was Mr Green with the Revolver in the Study.

GIVE US A CLUE
Duration: 1 January 2021 - 31 December 2021

1/3 deductions.
3/9 books.
Scooby Doo!

Suspects
Read a book with any shade of the following colours on the cover:
Mr Green - green
Colonel Mustard - yellow
Mrs Peacock - blue
Professor Plum - purple
Miss Scarlet - red
Mrs White - white - Why I'm No Longer Talking to White People About Race

Weapons
Read a book with the following word (or related word, not limited to the examples below) on the cover or in the title:
Candlestick or flames or fire
Dagger or knife or sword
Lead Pipe or musical instrument or writing instrument - Piranesi
Revolver or gun or pistol
Rope or string or ribbon
Wrench or spanner or any other tool

Rooms
Ballroom: Read a book which features a character who is a dancer
Billiard Room: Read a book that features your favourite hobby, game, sport or craft.
Cellar: In the board game, the solution can be found here so read a detective, mystery or true crime book - The Guest List
Conservatory: Read a book where a character has to save or conserve someone or something
Dining Room: Read a book with an item of food or drink on the cover
Hall: A hall tends to be the first room that welcomes you to the manor so read a book that is the first in a series.
Kitchen: Read a cookery book or a book with a chef as a character
Library: Read a book you have borrowed from a library or from someone else
Lounge: Here you can relax with a book in your favourite genre.
Secret Passages: Read a book with "secret" in the title
Study: Read a book about a subject you're passionate about or would like to learn more about

🔎 1st deduction: I deduce it was Mrs White in the cellar with the lead pipe.
Why I'm No Longer Talking to White People About Race by Reni Eddo-Lodge The Guest List by Lucy Foley Piranesi by Susanna Clarke
Reasoning: I read Why I'm No Longer Talking to White People About Race for Mrs White because of the white cover, The Guest List as a mystery book for the cellar, and Piranesi because of the horn/flute the faun plays on the cover for the lead pipe.

TerryJane | 4056 comments Kelly wrote: "Do you think an axe would fall under “Dagger” or “Wrench” category?"

I wondered the same thing, Kelly, but have not sought input from the challenge leader. I would think it could go either way since an axe is a bladed wood-cutting tool. I found more knives, swords, etc, in my TBR, so I plan to count the Newbery Medal nominee Hatchet as a wrench/tool. Likewise, I'm also thinking that books with the word "saw" would count, like The Last Time I Saw You. Curious to hear the official response. I just love this challenge!

Kelly wrote: "Do you think an axe would fall under “Dagger” or “Wrench” category?"

Hi Kelly and TerryJane, an axe can class as a 'dagger' because it does cut. It would also count as a 'wrench' because the challenge instructions says "wrench or spanner or any other tool" and an axe is a tool. It is up to you which you choose but as with all of our challenges, each book can only count once. Books with 'saw' in the title would also count :)

GIVE US A CLUE
Duration: 1 January 2021 - 31 December 2021

This challenge is inspired by the classic board game Clue/Cluedo. To set the scene, you're investigating a murder at Reading Challenge Manor and you will be looking for clues in the books that you read. Books can be in any genre unless a prompt specifies otherwise. Prompts may be repeated but each book can only count once.

Suspects
Read a book with any shade of the following colours on the cover:
Mr Green - green
Colonel Mustard - yellow
Mrs Peacock - blue
Professor Plum - purple
Miss Scarlet - red
Mrs White - white

Weapons
Read a book with the following word (or related word, not limited to the examples below) on the cover or in the title:
Candlestick or flames or fire
Dagger or knife or sword
Lead Pipe or musical instrument or writing instrument
Revolver or gun or pistol
Rope or string or ribbon
Wrench or spanner or any other tool

Rooms
Ballroom: Read a book which features a character who is a dancer
Billiard Room: Read a book that features your favourite hobby, game, sport or craft.
Cellar: In the board game, the solution can be found here so read a detective, mystery or true crime book
Conservatory: Read a book where a character has to save or conserve someone or something
Dining Room: Read a book with an item of food or drink on the cover
Hall: A hall tends to be the first room that welcomes you to the manor so read a book that is the first in a series.

Lounge: Here you can relax with a book in your favourite genre.
Secret Passages: Read a book with "secret" in the title
Study: Read a book about a subject you're passionate about or would like to learn more about

Every time you complete the following sentence - "I deduce it was [suspect] in the [room] with the [weapon]," we will update which tier of fictional detectives you fall into.
For example, I read Norse Mythology because it had a hammer on the cover, Eldest for the red cover and A Plain Cookery Book for the Working Classes so I can deduce that it was Miss Scarlet in the Kitchen with the wrench
1 deduction = Scooby Doo
2-3 deductions = Pink Panther
4-5 deductions = Nancy Drew
6-7 deductions = Jessica Fletcher
8-9 deductions = Hercule Poirot
10+ deductions = Sherlock Holmes
Also, if one of your deductions is 100% correct, you will also receive a medal of commendation🏅. We have randomly chosen whodunnit but will not be revealing the correct answer until later on in the year.
When updating your progress, please note I will not be checking original posts and your comment should include the number of books completed and also details of any deductions made
