Happy Buddy Reading!
~Your Buddy Read Mods—SarahKat and Trisha~

We have closed the 2020 sign-up thread, but please note you can still suggest/confirm books for December 2020 in this thread until November 25th.
We know you are all super excited to start buddy-reading for 2021! Here are some things to keep in mind as we are looking forward to this thread being very active!
*Please keep in mind that if your post is unclear in any way about what book, number of books, or months you want to read, the mods will ask for clarification and if none is given the request will not be added. See the first post in this thread for instructions.
*Please do NOT suggest more reads than you can commit to participating in. We know life happens and you can always cancel or drop out, but if you generally read 8 books per month, please limit your suggestions to 8. Extravagant suggestions lead to unnecessary effort by the Mods Team.
Changes in 2021
We are changing the way we handle series suggestions and confirmations to attempt to keep all the buddy read threads active!
For series longer than 3 books
*Suggested Series: Only the first book will be added to the spreadsheet
*Confirmed for the FIRST book only: The first book will be confirmed on the spreadsheet.
-If the original poster suggested the entire series, the second book will be added to the suggestions for the following month, awaiting confirmation from a second reader.
-If the original poster only suggested the first book, the second book will need to be suggested before being added to the spreadsheet.
*Confirmed for an entire series: Approximately 5 books (if the series is 7, we will likely add them all, but not 10) at a time will be added as confirmed to the spreadsheet, with a note the entire series is confirmed (there is a new column on the spreadsheet with this information)
-The mods will be checking in with all series threads to make sure the group is active and wanting to continue.

Note that I have not included authors only because I have included the book links. If you are using the app and cannot add the link to the book, include the author!
December 2020
The Sun Down Motel
January 2021
1. Real Life - Open to other months;
2. The Gunslinger (The Dark Tower #1) - Only the first book for now, will decide on continuing the series once I’m through the first one + Open to other months.
February 2021
The Shadow King - Open to other months.

January
The Wind-Up Bird Chronicle - Open to other months
February
The Robber Bride - Open to other months
March
The Mists of Avalon (Avalon #1) - Only the first book in the series + Open to other months

And I would like to suggest:
Howl's Moving Castle for February. Just the first book for now. Open to other months.

That "not adding cover " suggestion has all my support. It was really hard to see what book it was. Just titles/links is superior option imo

*January: Faithful Place (Dublin Murder Squad #3)
*February: Broken Harbour (Dublin Murder Squad #4)
*March: The Secret Place (Dublin Murder Squad #5)
*April: The Trespasser (Dublin Murder Squad #6)
Oops, I re-checked your format guidelines and redid my suggestions. 😁

Hi Alyana! We can plan [book:Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone starting January :) and add Becoming too for Jan. HP1 is a short book, and we should be able to do both :) and if HP1 feels great, we can start HP2!

- I'll try to squeeze in Becoming in January, if not, maybe February if you're cool with that.

Yaaayy!! :)

I read the post and would like to be added to :
- Into the Water in January
- The Duke and I in March

Bibliophile, I'm interested in reading [book:Eleanor Oliphant Is Completely Fine. Would February work for you? :)

Hi Bibliophile, I would be interested in joining in with The Catcher in the Rye by JD Salinger. I am open to any month :)

Eileen - Into the Water confirmed for January and The Duke and I confirmed for March. The Couple Next Door added to December suggestions. The Secret Place is yet to be added to the spreadsheet, but since the whole series is already confirmed, you can come back by January and confirm your participation.
Racheal, you're added to The Knife of Never Letting Go in December.

As per our conversation, I will add your suggestions to the spreadsheet once you share the updated list.

January - Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone
January - Verity
February - The Catcher in the Rye
February - Eleanor Oliphant Is Completely Fine
March - Water for Elephants
April - All the Light We Cannot See

Sorry, not taking up 'Becoming' for January (I might, but not confirmed) because I accomodated other books for Feb and March for a couple other readers, so had to replan a little bit. Sorry you've to update the excel (Sorry :( )

Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone is still confirmed for January
The Catcher in the Rye is confirmed for February as Rachael said she'd join for any month
The rest of your suggestions are not yet confirmed. Becoming had already been confirmed with Alyana Pearl in January. Do we need to cancel that?

Yes please cancel 'Becoming' for January. And please add 'Eleanor Oliphant is completely fine' for February as Eileen is also interested in that and suggested for Feb.

Alyana Pearl, if Bibliophile is dropping out of Becoming completely, I will have to move it back to "suggested" instead of confirmed. Would you like it suggested for February under your name? Or if Bibliophile can fit it in another month, we can move it.

I can do 'Becoming' for March if that's ok with others. Otherwise feel free to move it under Alyana's name for Feb.

This is the current thread to join or nominate future Buddy Reads. If at least two people commit to reading together, the Buddy Read Moderators will create a thread for the suggested book. For the current month's buddy reads, please go to the thread of the book you wish to read and let the other participants know you will be joining in. You DO NOT have to be on the participant's list to participate. Click here to go to the current month’s buddy reads folder.
To see what books are planned for 2020, click here and for 2021, click here.
Books may be seconded through the 25th of the month before. So, January 25 is the last day for February Buddy Reads; February 25 is the last day for March Buddy Reads, and so on.
***IMPORTANT GUIDELINES***
To nominate a buddy read:
Please ensure to include all of the following:
1. Book Title & Author OR use the 'add book/author' function to add the book link (it will automatically include the author when clicking the link). Please refrain from adding the book cover.
2. Series name, if applicable, and if you want to read the full series or just the first book. To see more information on suggesting books in a series, click here.
3. Month you would like to read the book. You may say you are open to other months, but include your first choice of month compulsorily.
Note: Please keep your suggestions limited to the next 3 to 4 months. This will help the thread stay organized, and lower the chances of readers dropping out or forgetting they've committed to a buddy read months in advance.
To second/join a buddy read:
Please ensure to include the following:
1. Book title & author OR use the 'add book/author' function to add the book link. Please refrain from adding the book cover.
2. If a series, whether you are committing to the first book only or the full series. To see more information on suggesting books in a series, click here.
3. The month you would like to read the book with the person who suggested it - either the one they suggested, or if they are open to another month, what month you are able to read it with them.
4. When responding to a fellow reader, please use the 'reply' function to do so.
5. Kindly note that the Moderators will skip lengthy conversations between readers, so once you agree on the details of a particular buddy read, please post a fresh comment requesting for a buddy read thread, including details: the reader’s name who has agreed to read with you, month and the book link compulsorily.
Formats for suggesting buddy reads:
Format 1 - When suggesting a book through WEB:
a. For Standalone books:
(Month) + {Book link} + Note* (refer below),
b. For books in a series:
(Month) + {Book link} + {Series Name} + {Whether or not you want to read the whole series} + Note* (refer below).
*Note: I'm open to other months. (Add this note ONLY if you're flexible to read in a different month, as stated in (3) above).
Format 2 - When suggesting a book through the APP:
a. For Standalone books:
(Month) + (Book Name) by (Author Name) + Note* (refer below),
b. For books in a series:
(Month) + (Book Name) (Series Name) by (Author Name) + {Whether or not you want to read the whole series} + Note* (refer below).
*Note: I'm open to other months. (Add this note ONLY if you're flexible to read in a different month, as stated in (3) above).
Click here to see an example of a suggestion post.
To withdraw from planned buddy reads:
We understand that unforeseen situations could prevent our buddy readers from joining the buddy reads they had previously suggested or confirmed to join; in such a situation, please comment in this thread informing the Moderators to remove you from your planned buddy reads. Please DO NOT DELETE your original post, instead post a new comment requesting to withdraw from the buddy read.
Archiving buddy read discussions:
Previous month's threads are archived on or after 25th of current month. So, November buddy reads will be archived on (or after) 25th December.
If you have any suggestions towards improving our current process, please feel free to direct message our Moderators. Our Moderators Team will discuss the feasibility of the suggestion and thereafter, take a decision.
Happy Buddy Reading!
