Fall '20 Read-a-Thon: The March Family
Hello all. I am delighted to be a March, as long as I can be Jo. lol. If I am understanding this correctly, our puzzle has 10 words and the 5th word is the one that both books share. Looking forward to playing!

Hi Team March. Thought I's do a mid afternoon check in. I have had a good reading day. I'm reading Mexican Gothic by Silvia Moreno-Garcia. I have 146 pages left. I should finish tomorrow. I will log my pages read later tonight. Good luck team.

I entered my pages and audio hours. Maybe we can guess a common letter like T? Also, Tracy how did you like Regretting You? It's on my TBR but I haven't got around to it yet.
I finished a book today ... will log my info tomorrow morning when I turn my computer on. Hoping to get a bit more reading done before bed tonight before I total up my pages.

Regretting You was a good quick read. I've only read 2 CoHo books so far, but I like her. They're quick but I think she tries to touch on some feelings in there and it mostly works without being toooooooo heavy for me. I really loved all the sap of the young girls boyfriend in this one- he was too cute :-)

What letter should I guess? I checked the board & only vowels are on it so I guess it hasn't been updated. I didn't want to guess a letter someone else has.
I entered a guess for N. Karissa did T. That leaves us 4 guesses, so others who have completed a book should guess R, S, L and whatever looks possible from there.
I put in S. Emily said 44 minutes ago we had 6 guesses. I used 1 just now so maybe we have 5 guesses?
We need to get all our guesses in so that we can begin to solve the puzzle.

I agree Sara. If I understand the spreadsheet correctly we have 5 guesses. I think.
Looks like we have 5 guesses still open! I can put one in for my audio hours. I'll do R. It looks like the first word may be "the" and the third one "and"?
I agree, Jen, and I would guess word 5 to be "of" .We should see where the Rs fall and then guess a D and see if there are others than the one we know.
Ok I just put my page totals in for yesterday and I think that brings us to 1001 pages, so another guess? And we still have a bunch from yesterday. So does that mean we have 6? We should get guessing!
Oh it looks interesting with the R's in place! What letter would work in front of the R in the last word? B? or G? maybe a GH with the T?

Oh! I think the first book is The Care and Feeding of Ravenously Hungry Girls and the second, Girls Burn Brighter but that only works if the last R was missed when adding letters!
Also I finished my audio book, The Woman's Hour: The Great Fight to Win the Vote. I only had a third left but it was over 100 pages.
Jen. Good point about the missing R. It has to be what your guess is. When can you submit your quests to solve the puzzle?
I just put a message in the guess thread to ask them to take a look at our puzzle got a missing letter. I think I saw Emily say we were eligible to guess. Jen's guess sounds right to me!

Wow good work! I was stumped but now it seems so obvious. Clearly I would not be a good Wheel of Fortune contestant.

Our next puzzle is opened up- category "Family"
I read 49 pages of The Bone Garden last night and finished Born on the Fourth of July today. Now I just have to decide which library book to read next.
I'm waiting impatiently to listen to more of my audiobook, but I can't listen with the kiddos home ( Know My Name )

So, just to clear up the confusion, Yes, there was ( is ) a missing R at the end of our puzzle. We have 5 letters submitted so we were eligible to guess and Jen OMG!!! You are the Wheel of Fortune SuperStar! Awesome guess. I saw on the threads that Emily is taking a break right now to get some of her own reading done, but she did verify the missing R and unlock our next puzzle. It's not completely filled in yet but its correct and we are moving on.Keep reading!!

This week we are taking on Wheel of Fortune! We may be missing Pat and Vanna (for those of us in the US), but this game is guaranteed to be just as much fun.

How It Works:
As a team, you will track your pages read, audio hours listened to, and books completed. Then, you will turn these into letter guesses to complete the fill-in-the-blank puzzle, Wheel of Fortune style.
You can earn (1) guess by:
- Reading 1000 pages as a team
- Listening to 5 hours of audio as a team
- Finishing one book
The Rules:
1. Each guess earned = 1 letter for the team to guess.
2. You may only guess consonants (no buying vowels in this game - so no A, E, I, O, or U).
3. You must make at least 5 guesses before solving the puzzle.
4. You do not have to have an available guess in order to guess the puzzle. If you guess the puzzle incorrectly, however, you will forfeit your next team guess.
5. When you solve the puzzle, you will move on to the next one!
Each puzzle has a different category that will give you a clue into the book title. Because the formatting is weird on Goodreads, check your group spreadsheet to see your progress of your puzzle. You will also record your progress and earn your guesses on the spreadsheet.

PUZZLE 1: BEFORE AND AFTER
This category will require TWO book titles, with one book title ending with the same beginning title word as the second book. The word that the two titles have in common is shaded green on your spreadsheet.
A House in the Sky/Sky in the Deep (But you would only guess the word "sky" once.)
PUZZLE 2: FAMILY
The puzzle is the name of two or more famous people who are closely related, or rarely, the name of a well-known family. In this case, it will be a book that contains the name of a family or multiple people, or will have a family relation name as part of the title (sisters, brothers, etc.).
PUZZLE 3: ON THE MAP
This puzzle includes cities, countries, and any other specific named geographical feature. In this case, it will be a book title that contains a location, fictional or real.
PUZZLE 4: THINGS
These book titles will all start with the word "The".
PUZZLE 5: RHYME TIME
The puzzle is a phrase with rhyming words in it or a list of thematically similar things whose names rhyme. In this case, the book title will have a rhyme or alliteration within the title.
PUZZLE 6: WHAT ARE YOU DOING?
The book title will (sort of) answer this question.
Since you made it through the first six puzzles I had planned in record speed, you are now entering our LIGHTNING ROUND!
New Rules for the Lightning Round:
- You must get either 2000 pages, 10 audio hours, or 2 books in order to earn one guess.
- In addition to vowels, you are not allowed to guess R, S, or T!
*All previously earned guesses will carry over into the lightning round.
PUZZLE 7: BEST SELLER
This book has been in the first place spot on the NY Times Best Sellers list.
PUZZLE 8: ON THE MENU
Titles will contain a word relating to food or drink.
PUZZLE 9: PERSON
Book titles in this category contain someone's first and/or last name.
