Fall '20 Read-a-Thon: The March Family
You will notice I only get the old books, Sherri. If Jen hadn't solved the first puzzle, I would still be calling letters and going "hungry what?"
And I never would have got the Lady of the Rivers. I'm thinking the first word may be a gerund-ending in "ing"?
Great job on the guesses! I just finished Looking for Alaska on my lunch break, updated the spreadsheet, and used my guess for the N.
After a fairly strong start on the weekend, I have basically done no reading yesterday or today :( Between work and trying to help my teen navigate (or as he would say NAG) hybrid back to school (in class and online alternating days), I just have not managed very well. But seems like the team is doing amazing without me! Every time I log on, there's a new puzzle.
The N didn't do too much. Will keep reading.Definite best wishes to those doing virtual learning with kids or teaching!! I somewhat thankful that I"m no longer a classroom teacher at the moment. It is not ideal for most.
Looks like we have three more guesses available after yesterday's pages and audio hours were added. I'll go guess a T and an S.
Still not enough to venture a guess. I'm not sure what to guess next, it would be random, so I will leave that to you guys and go do some reading.
We seem stuck ... will try to get my book done today, but not sure it's going to happen since I have IRL book club tonight (most likely last of the year before it gets too cold to be in backyards :(
Hi Team,I'm recovering from 2 days of distance learning with my girls. Monday was just awful, although I read a few pages. Yesterday My 10 year old had another panic attack and wasn't able to go in and my 8 year old overheard the fact that there were 2 COVID cases at her school ( on the third day!!!) and she didn't want to go. So they were home for distance learning again, although it went much more smoothly. I have been exhausted and falling asleep as soon as I start to read on my kindle. I napped today, after taking care of some things and I'm up now to attack my library book stack, so I should have some pages logged in for you all by this evening. Keep guessing on those letters!!
I finished How The Garcia Girls Lost Their Accents by Julia Alvarez. Any suggestions for our next letter?
I'm stumped as well, but we don't have much to work with, Jen. I think we ought to pick an off the basics letter next. Maybe C?
I keep looking at it but nothing. I feel sure the first word ends in ing. I think the second word is the. That’s all I got.
Any of those would work for me, Jen. I don't think we will make any progress unless we step outside the box. (watch, this puzzle will be full of L's).
Awesome work all! I think we have earned a couple more guesses. This Covid/ school situations is not great. I feel bad for all the parents and kiddos having to makes stressful decisions to keep the right to learn.
My struggle this week is co-facilitating trainings at 3 AM due to time difference since travel isn't feasible these days. At least it is just a temporary inconvenience.

Hope you have a much better day today, Tracy. I'm pretty sure everyone will be happier when this abnormal stuff has passed and we can find out what the new normal is meant to be. It is pretty bad when our 10 year olds are having panic attacks. I admire you for coping Tracy. My only "child" is 86 and I cannot imagine having to do this with real children!
I managed about 50 pages before falling asleep last night, LOL. The exhaustion is sooooo real right now.I'm wondering if my kiddos managed to get to school today. My daughters anxiety attacks started months before COVID, unfortunately. All of this has just made it worse. What a world to be raising little ones in. She will usually go in with no problems for her grandmother. She holds in her feelings because she is afraid gammy will be mad and she gets yelled at for crying. Thanks Sara, for the kind words.... I'm sorta fake coping.
Jen, hope you got some sleep.
Sherri wrote: "I keep looking at it but nothing. I feel sure the first word ends in ing. I think the second word is the. That’s all I got."I think since you all seem sure about the -ing ending and also the second word being "the" it's a safe bet to go ahead and put it your guesses for both G and H :-)
Jen K wrote: "Yes, was also thinking C, D, M or P? It is a tricky one."This is also a good plan... I'm dying. I can't help you LOL.
Wow, way to go! I think we need to put in 2 more letter guesses before we are allowed to guess the puzzle? Is that right? So P and G or D?
I posted my pages for yesterday. Had a restless night, so got in more reading than I had thought I would. Unfortunately, I am juggling several books at the moment, so no finish. Maybe today.
Since you made it through the first six puzzles I had planned in record speed, you are now entering our LIGHTNING ROUND!
New Rules for the Lightning Round:
- You must get either 2000 pages, 10 audio hours, or 2 books in order to earn one guess.
- In addition to vowels, you are not allowed to guess R, S, or T!
*All previously earned guesses will carry over into the lightning round.
PUZZLE 7: BEST SELLER
This book has been in the first place spot on the NY Times Best Sellers list.

Thanks to Alisa, we are now on puzzle seven. We have 2 guesses...so, someone decide which two letters to guess. I'm off to take my husband to therapy and will check back in this afternoon.
I know this will sound nuts, but I think it is "Big Little Lies". Just jumped out at me and if that is right, I am going to audition for Wheel of Fortune. lol. Probably not, but maybe call the L?
You are spot on with Little as the middle word but the last word has too many letters for Lies and no L. Maybe The Little xxx?
I would have been more surprised if it had been right! Sorry, though, because I thought the last word only had 4 letters when I looked at it. Can't think of anything else with little in the middle but maybe someone else will. Pumped that you will complete two books today. That will earn us another guess. I promise I am shutting down this computer right now! lol.
Oh man, when I saw it, I thought for sure it was Donna Tartt's The Little Friend, but then I counted the letters in the last word and realized it's one too short.
Karissa wrote: "Oh man, when I saw it, I thought for sure it was Donna Tartt's The Little Friend, but then I counted the letters in the last word and realized it's one too short."Me too! We have one more guess available at the moment but not sure which letter would make sense.
Or it could be Our Little xxx?
I did a quick run through of NYT bestsellers and nothing with Little that would fit jumped out at me - but I just did adult fiction so I guess it could be non-fiction or children's or something else. And I can't say definitively say I didn't miss something. If we did H I guess that would let us know if it's THE or something else?
Errlee wrote: "I did a quick run through of NYT bestsellers and nothing with Little that would fit jumped out at me - but I just did adult fiction so I guess it could be non-fiction or children's or something els..."Yes, I was thinking it could also be His or Her and the H would still help?
That's it, Jen. Guess the B and then we have to wait for some additional guesses before we are allowed to solve the puzzle. Good work!
