PUZZLE 6: WHAT ARE YOU DOING?
The book title will (sort of) answer this question.

message 102: by Sara (new)

Sara (phantomswife) You will notice I only get the old books, Sherri. If Jen hadn't solved the first puzzle, I would still be calling letters and going "hungry what?"

message 103: by Sherri (new)

Sherri Harris | 1502 comments I just looked at puzzle #6. The first word is definitely not The but the second word might be The.

message 104: by Jen K (new)

Jen K | 572 comments And I never would have got the Lady of the Rivers. I'm thinking the first word may be a gerund-ending in "ing"?

message 105: by Sara (new)

Sara (phantomswife) I agree, Jen. Guess the N and we will know for sure.

message 106: by Karissa (new)

Karissa | 440 comments Great job on the guesses! I just finished Looking for Alaska on my lunch break, updated the spreadsheet, and used my guess for the N.

message 107: by Errlee (new)

Errlee | 183 comments After a fairly strong start on the weekend, I have basically done no reading yesterday or today :( Between work and trying to help my teen navigate (or as he would say NAG) hybrid back to school (in class and online alternating days), I just have not managed very well.

But seems like the team is doing amazing without me! Every time I log on, there's a new puzzle.

message 108: by Jen K (last edited Sep 15, 2020 01:51PM) (new)

Jen K | 572 comments The N didn't do too much. Will keep reading.

Definite best wishes to those doing virtual learning with kids or teaching!! I somewhat thankful that I"m no longer a classroom teacher at the moment. It is not ideal for most.

message 109: by Sherri (new)

Sherri Harris | 1502 comments Well we do know now that Jen is right on the word ending in ing.

message 110: by Karissa (new)

Karissa | 440 comments Looks like we have three more guesses available after yesterday's pages and audio hours were added. I'll go guess a T and an S.

message 111: by Sara (new)

Sara (phantomswife) Great, Karissa. Good morning, all.

message 112: by Karissa (new)

Karissa | 440 comments There is no S in our puzzle.

message 113: by Sara (new)

Sara (phantomswife) Still not enough to venture a guess. I'm not sure what to guess next, it would be random, so I will leave that to you guys and go do some reading.

message 114: by Errlee (new)

Errlee | 183 comments We seem stuck ... will try to get my book done today, but not sure it's going to happen since I have IRL book club tonight (most likely last of the year before it gets too cold to be in backyards :(

message 115: by Tracy (new)

Tracy (tracyisreading) | 2573 comments Hi Team,

I'm recovering from 2 days of distance learning with my girls. Monday was just awful, although I read a few pages. Yesterday My 10 year old had another panic attack and wasn't able to go in and my 8 year old overheard the fact that there were 2 COVID cases at her school ( on the third day!!!) and she didn't want to go. So they were home for distance learning again, although it went much more smoothly. I have been exhausted and falling asleep as soon as I start to read on my kindle. I napped today, after taking care of some things and I'm up now to attack my library book stack, so I should have some pages logged in for you all by this evening. Keep guessing on those letters!!

message 116: by Sherri (new)

Sherri Harris | 1502 comments I finished How The Garcia Girls Lost Their Accents by Julia Alvarez. Any suggestions for our next letter?

message 117: by Errlee (new)

Errlee | 183 comments How about R? Honestly it's so wide open, who knows?

message 118: by Sherri (new)

Sherri Harris | 1502 comments R works for me. I will submit R.

message 119: by Errlee (new)

Errlee | 183 comments Hmm that didn't help much!

message 120: by Jen K (new)

Jen K | 572 comments Nice work getting another letter! Maybe I'm overthinking it but I'm completely stumped.

message 121: by Sara (new)

Sara (phantomswife) I'm stumped as well, but we don't have much to work with, Jen. I think we ought to pick an off the basics letter next. Maybe C?

message 122: by Sherri (new)

Sherri Harris | 1502 comments I keep looking at it but nothing. I feel sure the first word ends in ing. I think the second word is the. That’s all I got.

message 123: by Jen K (new)

Jen K | 572 comments Yes, was also thinking C, D, M or P? It is a tricky one.

message 124: by Sara (new)

Sara (phantomswife) Any of those would work for me, Jen. I don't think we will make any progress unless we step outside the box. (watch, this puzzle will be full of L's).

message 125: by Jen K (new)

Jen K | 572 comments Awesome work all! I think we have earned a couple more guesses.

This Covid/ school situations is not great. I feel bad for all the parents and kiddos having to makes stressful decisions to keep the right to learn.

My struggle this week is co-facilitating trainings at 3 AM due to time difference since travel isn't feasible these days. At least it is just a temporary inconvenience.

Hope you have a much better day today, Tracy. I'm pretty sure everyone will be happier when this abnormal stuff has passed and we can find out what the new normal is meant to be. It is pretty bad when our 10 year olds are having panic attacks. I admire you for coping Tracy. My only "child" is 86 and I cannot imagine having to do this with real children!

message 127: by Tracy (last edited Sep 17, 2020 06:35AM) (new)

Tracy (tracyisreading) | 2573 comments I managed about 50 pages before falling asleep last night, LOL. The exhaustion is sooooo real right now.

I'm wondering if my kiddos managed to get to school today. My daughters anxiety attacks started months before COVID, unfortunately. All of this has just made it worse. What a world to be raising little ones in. She will usually go in with no problems for her grandmother. She holds in her feelings because she is afraid gammy will be mad and she gets yelled at for crying. Thanks Sara, for the kind words.... I'm sorta fake coping.

Jen, hope you got some sleep.

Tracy (tracyisreading) | 2573 comments Sherri wrote: "I keep looking at it but nothing. I feel sure the first word ends in ing. I think the second word is the. That’s all I got."

I think since you all seem sure about the -ing ending and also the second word being "the" it's a safe bet to go ahead and put it your guesses for both G and H :-)

Tracy (tracyisreading) | 2573 comments Jen K wrote: "Yes, was also thinking C, D, M or P? It is a tricky one."

This is also a good plan... I'm dying. I can't help you LOL.

Here's a hint: I'm going to throw a vowel in the puzzle for y'all!

message 131: by Ailsa (new)

Ailsa Leitch | 13 comments I think the book is Photographing the Dead?

message 132: by Errlee (new)

Errlee | 183 comments Wow, way to go! I think we need to put in 2 more letter guesses before we are allowed to guess the puzzle? Is that right?

So P and G or D?

message 133: by Sara (new)

Sara (phantomswife) Yippee, Alisa! Put P and G, Errlee and make the solve.

message 134: by Emily, Conterminous Mod (new)

Emily Bourque (emilyardoin) | 11201 comments Mod
You have enough letter guesses on this puzzle to guess the puzzle!

message 135: by Sara (new)

Sara (phantomswife) I posted my pages for yesterday. Had a restless night, so got in more reading than I had thought I would. Unfortunately, I am juggling several books at the moment, so no finish. Maybe today.

message 136: by Sara (new)

Sara (phantomswife) Thank you, Emily. Going for it.

Since you made it through the first six puzzles I had planned in record speed, you are now entering our LIGHTNING ROUND!

New Rules for the Lightning Round:
- You must get either 2000 pages, 10 audio hours, or 2 books in order to earn one guess.
- In addition to vowels, you are not allowed to guess R, S, or T!

*All previously earned guesses will carry over into the lightning round.

PUZZLE 7: BEST SELLER
This book has been in the first place spot on the NY Times Best Sellers list.

message 138: by Sara (new)

Sara (phantomswife) Thanks to Alisa, we are now on puzzle seven. We have 2 guesses...so, someone decide which two letters to guess. I'm off to take my husband to therapy and will check back in this afternoon.

message 139: by Sara (new)

Sara (phantomswife) I know this will sound nuts, but I think it is "Big Little Lies". Just jumped out at me and if that is right, I am going to audition for Wheel of Fortune. lol. Probably not, but maybe call the L?

message 140: by Jen K (new)

Jen K | 572 comments Awesome work team!! I never would have guessed that one!

message 141: by Jen K (new)

Jen K | 572 comments Let's try it!! I should finish 2 books today and we have the guesses.

Will request right now.

message 142: by Jen K (new)

Jen K | 572 comments You are spot on with Little as the middle word but the last word has too many letters for Lies and no L.

Maybe The Little xxx?

message 143: by Sara (new)

Sara (phantomswife) I would have been more surprised if it had been right! Sorry, though, because I thought the last word only had 4 letters when I looked at it. Can't think of anything else with little in the middle but maybe someone else will. Pumped that you will complete two books today. That will earn us another guess.

I promise I am shutting down this computer right now! lol.

message 144: by Karissa (new)

Karissa | 440 comments Oh man, when I saw it, I thought for sure it was Donna Tartt's The Little Friend, but then I counted the letters in the last word and realized it's one too short.

message 145: by Jen K (last edited Sep 17, 2020 12:21PM) (new)

Jen K | 572 comments Karissa wrote: "Oh man, when I saw it, I thought for sure it was Donna Tartt's The Little Friend, but then I counted the letters in the last word and realized it's one too short."

Me too! We have one more guess available at the moment but not sure which letter would make sense.

Or it could be Our Little xxx?

message 146: by Errlee (new)

Errlee | 183 comments I did a quick run through of NYT bestsellers and nothing with Little that would fit jumped out at me - but I just did adult fiction so I guess it could be non-fiction or children's or something else. And I can't say definitively say I didn't miss something.

If we did H I guess that would let us know if it's THE or something else?

message 147: by Jen K (new)

Jen K | 572 comments Errlee wrote: "I did a quick run through of NYT bestsellers and nothing with Little that would fit jumped out at me - but I just did adult fiction so I guess it could be non-fiction or children's or something els..."

Yes, I was thinking it could also be His or Her and the H would still help?

message 148: by Jen K (new)

Jen K | 572 comments Though it could also not be Little....

What about The Lovely Bones?

message 149: by Sara (new)

Sara (phantomswife) That's it, Jen. Guess the B and then we have to wait for some additional guesses before we are allowed to solve the puzzle. Good work!

message 150: by Jen K (new)

Jen K | 572 comments Request made and I have less than 30 minutes left of my audio book.
