Just getting up and starting!

Erin (erin1969) | 49 comments I'm nursing a Halloween candy hangover and crocheting a blanket for my daughter. My plan is to quit working on it at 11 am, then start writing. Meanwhile, I'm listening to a book on writing romance for inspiration.

message 259: by [deleted user] (new)

1st day made my word count! Energized!

message 260: by Erin (new)

Erin (erin1969) | 49 comments 1,751 words today. Took way longer than I thought it would. I really need to avoid distractions it I'm going to do this everyday and still have a family that talks to me!

message 262: by Kim (new)

Kim (kimgm) | 1032 comments It sounds like we're all off to a great start! :D

Here are some tips on avoiding distractions:

- turn off your WiFi
- plan your writing schedule, give yourself a 15-minute break after you've written for 45 minutes. Use those fifteen minutes to hydrate, check mail/FB, etc. Use a kitchen timer to make sure you ONLY take a 15 minute break.
- if you're using Scrivener, use full-screen mode to block out everything else.
- if distraction are your loved ones, find another place where you can write. On those days when my hubby will NOT leave me alone so I can write, I write in cafés and listen to Spotify with my headphones.

Erin (erin1969) | 49 comments Yesterday, I wrote 1800+ words.

message 264: by Erin (new)

Erin (erin1969) | 49 comments Today, I have a couple of quick critiques to write, some homework for my writing class, plus I want to hit my goal of 2,000 words. I work from home, which does give me some flexibility. I usually don't take a break for lunch during the day, but I've started doing it and knocked out about 1,200 words just writing all out without thinking too hard about what I was writing.

message 265: by Kim (new)

Kim (kimgm) | 1032 comments I fell behind today. I went out to dinner with some friends whom I haven't seen in months. It was nice to catch up with them.

Erin (erin1969) | 49 comments Writing on my lunch break did not go so well today! Only 200 words or so. I'm going to grab a bit to eat and get in a couple of hours of keyboard pounding before my Gotham class chat.

I did manage to finish my critiques and homework though.

Don't stress about it. You may get inspired on the way home from class.

It's best not to stress. I know I am behind--I only wrote 600 words yesterday and only managed 200 this morning. I will try to catch up tonight and then write more at the weekend. :)

Ugh! I've fallen behind in my word count too. I ended up working late tonight, and won't get any writing done. My hope is to make up the difference within the next few days.

It's best not to stress to much about it. I find I get more writing done at the weekend. And then I am planning a weekend away to focus on writing--a change of scenery often leads to more words on the page for me.

message 274: by Erin (new)

Erin (erin1969) | 49 comments I did make the minimum goal yesterday but I'm not sure I will today. I'm thinking of taking next Friday off so I can have a writing marathon before the week of thanksgiving.

message 275: by Kim (new)

Kim (kimgm) | 1032 comments Yesterday I managed 2K....it was my best writing day (apart from the first day of NaNo). I had a few hours of being home alone, so I was able to focus. :)

message 276: by Erin (new)

Erin (erin1969) | 49 comments I eked out a little less than 1,000 words yesterday. I'm going to try to make it up today by writing about 2,400 words today. I should have some time this evening to work on my story.

Day 6 my total word count: 11,028!!!

message 282: by Erin (new)

Erin (erin1969) | 49 comments Added another 1,500 words, but now I need sleep. I got distracted by some plot problems and wound up spending time doing that instead of work on more of the scenes I wanted to get on paper. Should have time to catch up over the weekend.

message 283: by Erin (new)

Erin (erin1969) | 49 comments I used one of Rachel Aaron's techniques and wrote 1500 words in about three hours, even with breaks to tend to children. I need to go out for a bit, but I'm thinking I can get in more time this afternoon.

Erin (erin1969) | 49 comments I did bullet points of what would happen in the scene before I wrote it. Also, I used a scene checklist to make sure I covered enough points to make the scene complete. I feel like I need a better way to end my scenes.

I've been trying to do the same thing, but I find myself veering into new directions. Which isn't so bad. :)

Smart! I may try to do the same thing. I need one good day without any obligations to get ahead on my word count.

message 293: by Shantee' (new)

Shantee' Parks) (poseyparks) | 12 comments I'm up to about 8500 words. I'm off today so my goal is 20k words. I know I can do it as long as the story is flowing in my head. My first novel was 100k words done in a month.

Kim (kimgm) | 1032 comments Erin wrote: "3,029 words yesterday.

I'm at work, so I haven't had time to write more than 500 words this morning. Will hop right back into it once I am home. I am aiming for 3000 words, but realistically I think it'll be closer to 2000.

message 299: by Erin (new)

Erin (erin1969) | 49 comments I'm at work too, but work from home and try to write on my lunch break a couple times a week. And I'm not working tomorrow, so I should be able to get ahead a bit. I have family activities this weekend, and I'm out of town for work next week, so I'm not sure I'll be able to make my minimums consistently.

Kim (kimgm) | 1032 comments Whoa...a whole month and I've been so swamped I haven't had time to check in here. I got a tip about a new app to try called Book Planner, to help with planning book launches. I am going to try it out for a month and see if it's worth it. If it is, then I will post a link here. :)
