Nonnie | 33 comments Hi guys, i'm you guys started this because i haven't completed a story in almost four years all my old stuff is up on wattpad and if you check i'm now following two of you. Anyway, you guys showed up just in time because i've been trying to motivate myself to work on a couple of my projects. one is completed and another is a sequel to a story on wattpad already.

I do have a question since the original project is completed and i'm working on editing myself what methods do you use for editing? I wrote most of my completed stories in highschool and this is one of them so it needs a lot of work and i'm not sure the best way to go about it.

message 105: by Ines (new)

Ines Johnson @Nonnie: Self editing is hard. For wattpad, I just let the stories rest a few days and then come back and read them. I also rely heavily on my critique partner who is good with story, and we share the same tastes in storytelling.

If you've spent a few years away from these stories, then you should be able to look at them now with fresh eyes.

Post here and let us cheer you on!

Kim (kimgm) | 1032 comments Today was a so-so writing day. I managed to get some work done on a story while I was at work (since I was stuck in a meeting but didn't have to do anything other than simply be there).

I finished a new scene for Maybe Forever, which goes to the editor next week. And I need to finish tweaking a final scene.

message 107: by Ines (new)

Ines Johnson @Kim, I wonder if you can tell how much I hate meetings! I feel for you, girl.

I got 2500 words in for the Wattpad story. I got to write a battle between two space ships!!! So fun.

My first book, The Pleasure Hound: Part One went free today on Amazon for 5 days. I also ran a Booksends ad this morning. Its had over 600 downloads so far and got me on some Free Bestseller lists!

I hate meetings and lately I seem to spend half of my working days in them. Blech! :P

I never heard of Booksends! Need to check this out. :) Congrats on hitting those bestsellers lists. I was on two this weekend with Amazon since I did a free promotion with my short story, Linger A Short Story by Kim Golden Linger.

Ines Johnson http://booksends.com/
It was $50. But be wary of your blurb. I followed their guidelines and still they truncated mine. I got 900 free downloads yesterday.

message 111: by Ines (new)

Ines Johnson Didn't get any writing done today, but still made progress!
-The Pleasure Hound: Part One is still holding at #1 Free Erotica in Interracial Romance on Amazon.
And the other two parts of the serialized novel are charting.
-Reached 300 reads on Wattpad just now with Spirited Away, the alien abduction story.

I'm gonna get some serious words in this cold weekend. Let me know if you're with me!

message 112: by Nonnie (new)

Nonnie | 33 comments That's awesome Ines. I didn't get any writing done today either had to go to the doctors with my nephews. I might get something done if I can't sleep tonight.

message 113: by Ines (new)

Ines Johnson I got a lot of revising and editing done today. Ready to write new words tomorrow.

message 114: by Ines (new)

Ines Johnson I got about 2200 words today! All activities got canceled for Sunday due to the snow. Hoping to finish this draft tomorrow. Wish me luck!

message 115: by Nonnie (new)

Nonnie | 33 comments I wrote 310 words its a start.

good job Ines on your 2200 word.

message 116: by Ines (new)

Ines Johnson Hey Nonnie, that's a great start!

I kicked but today...while I sat inside and away from the snow! Got 4488 words. With that big of a word count (big for me, anyway), I'm taking tomorrow off. See ya'll Tuesday!

message 117: by Kim (new)

Kim (kimgm) | 1032 comments I started a new short story and managed around 1500 words. I made a cover for it too, which you can see on my FB author page, http://facebook.com/SeeKimWrite).

My goal is to finish the short story within the next 2-3 weeks.

message 118: by Ines (new)

Ines Johnson Wow Kim! You did that cover. You've got hidden talents girl!

message 119: by Kim (new)

Kim (kimgm) | 1032 comments I made it with canva.com. I have been using it for creating teaser images + kindle covers for a friend. :)

message 120: by Ines (new)

Ines Johnson I'll have to look into that for the story I have on Wattpad.

Had a good editing session tonight with that story.

Canva.com is super easy to use. I love it. I tried using InDesign to make book covers but I can't figure it out for the life of me. I end up making a big mess instead. :)

Yesterday, I worked on a new scene for my new short story. I also had to contain my temper as a non-native speaker of English ripped apart some work-related writing I'd done. I wasn't upset that she'd criticized me. I was annoyed that she was completely wrong. If I'm writing copy about a perfume that they are marketing as an evening fragrance and then they tell me I can't use the word "night" in my copy because we are using it for another product... um..."night" is a pretty general English word. I don't think our consumers will mix up two products if both descriptions contain the words "night" or "evening". Yes, this is why I am exhausted at the end of the day.

Echo (mrsbookmark) | 307 comments Hi! Sorry I've been lax in checking in and cheering everyone on.

Yay yay yay! rah rah rah! Nonnie, Ines, and Kim.

I've been updating blog posts, buried in edits for my short novel I want to have done by the end of March.

I added about 3000 more to my SF Romance...and I have a part 2 planning. I think I'll take the plunge and self pub.

message 123: by Nonnie (new)

Nonnie | 33 comments Yay Echo and Kim you go girls.

I got in another 330 words today a combo of doing laundry late at night and being bored. I think i may have gotten my mojo back lol.

I have a busy day tomorrow so we'll see how much i get done if anything.

message 124: by Kim (new)

Kim (kimgm) | 1032 comments I posted my first article on the Spice Aisle, a blog run by writers of romantic fiction. We all write different sub-genres and the blog features a little of everything. Here's a link to my first post, http://spiceaisleromance.com/2015/02/...

Ines Johnson Got more editing done today. Its going to be a weekend of editing. Does anyone else use Margie Lawson's EDITS system? I'm addicted to it!

Ines Johnson Still editing. Got three chapters of two different works done today. And I moved up the release date for my next release Pumpkin: a Cindermama Story. I made the ARCs available to my newsletter subscribers (my list is not that big). If any of my friends here are interested in an ARC you can inbox me here on Goodreads.

message 129: by Ines (new)

Ines Johnson Got three chapters of editing done this weekend. Trying to keep it to one chapter a day. Also played on Canva (thanks Kim) for my alien romance wattpad story. I'm up to 500 reads over there!

Let's get ready to rumble this week!

message 130: by Ines (new)

Ines Johnson Hey Guys, not sure if I told you, but I have Jury Duty all week. Though I live on one of the most diverse streets in the USA, I was one of 2 black people/black women in a pool of 70 potential jurors! Its a lot of diplomats and temporary/transient residents here in Northern VA, we're 5 miles outside of DC.

Anyway, trials don't start until closer to lunchtime so I got a ton of editing done in the morning. Didn't get picked for either of the two trials going on. And then I was excused after lunchtime. Oh and they gave me $30 cash for my expenses!

message 131: by Kim (new)

Kim (kimgm) | 1032 comments Hi chicas! I was ill all weekend, so I didn't get much writing done. I did manage to write a new chapter to my novella about Jesper, the teenage son of Laney's Swedish boyfriend in Maybe Baby. I uploaded the new chapter to wattpad. Otherwise, I spent most of the weekend trying to get over a bad cold and sleeping.

message 132: by Ines (new)

Ines Johnson Got 881 words today during Jury Duty, and another 551 tonight. One more day of civic duty to go.

message 133: by Kim (new)

Kim (kimgm) | 1032 comments Finished chapter 3 and started chapter 4 of my novella about Jesper. The full version of chapter 3 is online now at wattpad. http://www.wattpad.com/story/32897237...

message 134: by Ines (new)

Ines Johnson Yeah Kim! btw, did you decide if you're coming to RWA?

message 135: by Ines (new)

Ines Johnson Got over 2K today! Three scenes left to draft and tomorrow's going to be a snow day. I'm aiming to get two done.

message 136: by Kim (new)

Kim (kimgm) | 1032 comments Ines wrote: "Yeah Kim! btw, did you decide if you're coming to RWA?"

I'm not going to be able to come this year. My vacation request for those days was denied. I have to take my vacation in either June or August since there are so many people in my office who have kids. And since I do not have kids it's apparently not important that I want to have time off to spend with my husband or go to a conference.

message 137: by Ines (new)

Ines Johnson @Kim, big bummer. We'll have to live tweet at you so that you don't miss anything!

The Muse wasn't speaking to me today. Which was okay. I got three Chapters of of my next release edited. I really only had to upgrade some expressions. I use the expression "eyes widened" A LOT. I just whipped out the The Emotion Thesaurus: A Writer's Guide to Character Expression and mixed in some variety of expressions.

But no new words for Spirited Away, the alien abduction story. I know what I'm supposed to write for the scene. I have an entry point into the scene -which is usually the hardest part for me. Instead of writing I cleaned. I redecorated my living room/dining area. We decided to get rid of the dining table. We never use it. We put two bookshelves in its place and filled it with books. Then I also redid a section of my bedroom to include a larger office area. So I was very productive!

message 138: by Echo (new)

Echo (mrsbookmark) | 307 comments FYI:
Galaxy Express is looking for writers to add their books to the list. In support of Black Women Authors. I think Pleasure Hound and the Wattpad story might fit.

Site is here:
http://www.thegalaxyexpress.net/2015/...

I was slow this week. Child caught cold, passed it on to me, I passed it on to spouse. Edits are going well on the M/M. It should be done soon. Did a few new scenes to the SF novel. Think I can hit the 50,000 anyday now.

Ines Johnson This has been an amazing day. My newest release launched. I've made more money in one day of sales of Pumpkin: a Cindermama Story than with three months of all three Pleasure Hound books.

The Pleasure Hound: Part One went permafree today along with the launch of Pumpkin and I "sold" 30 free books and got purchases/borrows on the other two, which then launched all of them up to a higher rank. Better than the two paid promos I did.

Its true: The best advertising for your last book is your next book.

Come on ya'll. Get those words out. They're hungry for our stories!

message 149: by Ines (new)

Ines Johnson Finished Part Three of my alien abduction story.

Added a new story on wattpad, a collabo with my critique partner, the amazing L. Penelope. Check it out, especially the cover, which she designed!
