I actually don’t need the pass. I wasn’t sure if the book I read this week would work, but Jane approved it so all good

Review: This was my first Fredrick Backman book, and now, I feel like I want to read them all. This story was told from multiple perspectives and multiple timelines, but it was still very easy to follow. I loved how every single detail was important and all ended up tying together at some point in the book. He also did a great job including humor in the book despite it being very focused on mental health. It added to the book but didn’t distract from the heavy topics as well.

I loved it! Any recommendations for other books from him? He has a bunch and they all sound so good.

Himanshi for you I have week 4 completion outstanding and week 5 selection and completion outstanding. You will need to post your week 5 selection before the theme is called tonight and I think you need to post your week 4 completion also otherwise you will be 2 books behind.

Wickedest Witch by Eve Langlais

This author is a hit or miss for me. This one was sort of in the middle. Made me laugh a few times, the characters are unique. Evangeline is a wicked witch who doesn’t realize she wants to be loved, and Ryker is a big alpha panther shifter. So initially they have nothing in common except they are intensely attracted to each other physically. Even though they seem at odds and are completely different, for some reason they work well together, and so they end up falling in love. The kidnapping mystery was the weakest part of the book and could’ve been fleshed out better. We don’t really find out who the bad guy actually is. The family members were so funny, especially Ryker’s mother and Eva’s sister. The epilogue was cute and I really liked Rumpelstiltskin’s mating/wedding gift.

Review: This one was all action packed! A military coup is being plotted in Malfajiri and the Uk foreign office and secret service have sent 2 officers out there to work with one of the companies that are working with the local army but they have disappeared. Alex Morgan who has an extensive military background and has joined intrepid a military spin off for Interpol is sent in to find out what is going on. There is corruption within some of the UK government agencies and everything becomes tense as the president of Malfajiri is targeted whilst in London setting of a chain reaction in Malfajiri. Alex Morgan is injured multiple times but still manages to save the day.
I quite enjoyed this but some aspects were a bit confusing, there were a lot of different organisations and it was tough keeping track and though there was an element of romance it is so light a touch that it’s basically non existent.

Kitty Goes to Washington, Carrie Vaughn – 10/13/20 – ✮✮✮✮✰
Review — This was a good follow-up to the first book in this series. The world building continues and it does so with some interesting characters. I enjoyed seeing Cormac and Ben again, but wished they had more than a peripheral job in the story. Kitty is still getting used to life outside her pack and after the events in this book will have a lot more to assimilate to...I hope to see some of Kitty’s allies in future books...she made some new friends and seems to be realizing her “pack” is more than just other werewolves.

Task 11

Book: Miss Frost Saves The Sandman: A Nocturne Falls Mystery by Kristen Painter
Rating: 3 stars
Date Read: 10/14
Review:
I've read the other books in the series already, so this one completes it. I have enjoyed the visits to Nocturne Falls. The Jayne Frost books focus a bit more on the mysteries and a bit less on the romance aspect, and who wouldn't like to visit a Christmas Shop run by Santa's niece.
In this book, the Sandman is doing a book tour. He has written a children's book that guarantees they fall asleep in just a couple of pages. Of course, it is an instant best seller. But then his spooky ex appears and trouble starts happening in town.
The things I didn't really love: well primarily the love triangle - they annoy me in general, so I don't have much patience for them. That said, at least this one isn't at all angst-filled, since the story is way more focused on mystery. But still..annoying! I also thought Jayne wasn't always smart about personal safety (polite way of stating the "too stupid to live" trope.) But she was mostly smart enough to live :)

Review: This was a really beautiful book about a girl who had everything and then it wasn’t all pulled away from her in unexpected plane crash. It discusses how she navigates trying to get her life back on track with the new challenges thrown her way. It also has family drama thrown in as a side plot, which I thought was interesting, but I don’t know how much it truly added to the story. Some aspects of the book were pretty predictable too, but it was still a lovely book overall.

Hi Kari your link and book cover doesn't take you to the kindle edition and when I check the kindle first edition it only has 87 pages. I know the other kindle editions have more pages but I have contacted Jane for advice in relation to this as if we take the kindle first edition it would not meet the minimum page requirements.

Hector

This was a lot cuter than I expected, it’s basically a romance between a griffin shifter and a nerdy lepidopterist. Both Hector and Myrtle were extremely likeable throughout the book. They meet when Myrtle is trying to save a mysterious blue egg and Hector is working undercover to catch some smugglers. There was a bit of insta-love that worked well, and I found their relationship to be quite sweet. Conflicts were mostly external, with an evil snake shifter, a kidnapping, and a cute Pegasus/unicorn hybrid baby with magical powers. Things move quickly as Hector and Myrtle race to save the supernatural baby, which they name Ruby. I loved the setting in Australia, and the references to local life in the outback. The next book is about Callan, Hector’s co-worker and friend and it’s also set in Australia.

Review — Well I was glad to have a reason to jump right into this one! There was so much happening in this book and I loved getting more background of Bear’s, King’s, and Preppy’s past between this book and the last. Bear and Thia are an interesting couple. From a distance, they don’t really work. The age difference, life difference, personality difference all make it seem like they shouldn’t work as a couple. But they compliment each other well. Thia is young, but she is fierce! I will say this book (and Lawless) were a bit more violent than I’m used to. It’s not that the violence wasn’t appropriate to the story, but some of it didn’t need to be so well described...in my opinion. I’m itching to move on in the series, but other books must come first...but I will be back soon!

Review: One star removed for the editing issues that peppered the story. This is book 2 in the series and focuses on Doe returning to her home and trying to piece together her life and remember who she was before she lost her memory. I love her relationship with King even though he doesn’t feature as much in this book. Doe’s family are cold and distant and her relationship with Tanner at first seems really sweet however everything changes dramatically. A good story which I really enjoyed.

Book: Anxious People by Fredrik Backman

Review. I have absolutely loved every one of Fredrik Backman's books, and this was no exception. He beautifully articulates so many of my inner feelings about being a parent and a human being, he is funny, and I love how he shows people connect and find support and meaning.
The basic plot of this book (and the least important part) is the story of a bank robbery that turns into a hostage situation. But really, getting to know and understand the characters with their needs and pasts and imperfections was the true plot of this book. I loved it.
