I'm Christina, live in Austria (GMT+1) and work - what are the odds?! - as a waitress in my family's own restaurant! :)
I'm a bit of a team challenge veteran, but that in no way means I know every single thing about them haha! My favourite /most common genres I read are thrillers/mysteries and YA contemporary (mostly 250-400 pages), and this year I've mainly listened to audiobooks so far. For some reason I can't concentrate on reading with my eyes lately, but oh well. Also, I ordered some graphic novels earlier this week since there's finally a challenge which allows them, yay!!
Does anybody have ideas for our team and/or restaurant names? I saved mine on my laptop but am on my phone right now, but we can discuss them later :)

I’m from Michigan, USA. I just got engaged earlier this month and will be finishing my Masters degree on Sunday. So lots of fun things! I love reading and am excited to have more time while I take a break from school to focus on my writing. I usually read 2-5 books a week depending if I’m reading poetry, YA, classics, novels, etc. I really like that this challenge allows us to incorporate shorter books and poetry as I have some poetry that’s been teasing me!
I have done the hot lava and TT challenge in 2019 and then I just did the Wheelathon challenge. I’m pumped to jump into another one! I check the boards several times a day, but if I don’t reply for some reason feel free to message me! :)

Hi! I have no idea for team names, I’m good with whatever :)

Congratulations on your engagement, Amanda! And on finishing your masters degree tomorrow ;) what did you study?

Congratulations on your engagement, Amanda! And on finishing your masters degree tomorrow ;) what did you study?"
I hope you were able to get some sleep! And thank you :) my undergraduate and graduate degree were both in English and Creative Writing. I’m debating on going back for another masters in criminal psychology or a PhD, but I’m not sure yet. I just want a break I’ve been going non stop since high school 😂

Hi Kirsty! You sounds like you have your hands full, but get plenty of reading time in! I also read tons of different genes but I love a good thriller :)

A couple of years ago I did the Around the World challenge and loved our group of “Literary Ladies”. I haven’t done any others because I seem to miss the cutoff or not understand the rules fully. I might ask lots of questions please be patient with me!!!!

that's okay, I'm sure we'll be able to make things work as a team :)
I'm sorry you have to do long-distance right now; it must be especially hard at the moment not really being able to plan anything... we'll be happy to distract you though and we definitely don't mind you having more time to read ;)

wow, mum of four! I'm impressed that you're still finding some time to read! I assume that's how you're spending the only 'down-time' you get?

you're so ambitious, I love that!! but I understand that you need a bit of a break now. am I right to assume that criminal psychology involves profiling? because I love watching Criminal Minds haha, and I think it sounds super interesting! also, since you have degrees in english and creative writing I think we have just found someone who might be able to write a little something about our restaurant once we come up with a name 😏😏😏

anyway, some team names I thought of before:
- the bookish baristas
- the chic chefs
- the well-read waiters/waitresses
restaurant names:
- the comfy café
- the bookish bistro
- the literate lunchroom
- the thrilling tearoom
then I thought they're all kinda boring and looked through the interwebs for some punny names and found some really funny ones if you wanna go with one of them!
- game of scones
- scone with the wind
- lord of the fries
- life of pie
- sweeney tart
- breaking bread
- tequila mockingbird
- grape expectations
(also bread blood, bread feminist, a bread beginning, loaf language, live loaf laugh)
let me know what you think!!! and obviously PLEASE share any of your ideas (or better words than I used because apparently I don't know any big words)

The Bookie Joint
GONE WITH THE GIN
Book, Meat and Eat
THE HANDMAIDS ALE
Books with a brew
BOOKS 'N' BOOZE
READ BETWEEN THE WINES
Team names
The cliffhangers
The liter-hotties
The page turners
WELL READ, BADLY BEHAVED

Although I gotta say I also like Books'n'Booze A LOT, and I still have a soft spot for Sweeney Tart for some reason x)

I'm Samantha (or Sam) and I'm 29 and I live in the Pacific Northwest! I've played 2 WaT and 1 TT. In fact, I was on the winning Hobbitses this time :) ~toot toot~ So not exactly a challenge rookie, but I wouldn't say I'm a veteran either. Challenges help me get out of reading slumps so I love them.
Congrats on your engagement, Amanda!

I would vote for Tequila Mockingbird bc it references one of my favorites books and I think it’s hilarious and others have said they lean toward the boozy names, or Game of Scones bc I also love that! Although I’m perfectly fine with whatever. And team name I like anything.
I have a shelf full of books already! I just have to figure out how they fit in. I am doing my own personal challenge of reading 1 book from each shelf of my local library. I live in a mid-size city so it’s quite an undertaking but it leads me to books I’d never have chosen. The bad part will be when I get to James Patterson and Nora Roberts and have to read about 10 of their books because they’re so prolific, lol. I’m doing both the fiction & non-fiction sections.
I also got a book I’ve had on hold for quite some time - The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo which I’m quite excited about.
Can we start reading before the official challenge date or do we have to read the book completely after the 17th?

Aaaaaand I hope nobody minds me taking charge here, I'm just always so excited about team challenges and am hard to stop x) I'm really sorry, please let me know if I'm too much!

That’s such a cool idea! All our libraries are super small but I find hidden gems now and again! All books have to be started after the beginning of the challenge:)

Go for it! I love team challenges but sometimes need help keeping my brain organized 😂

I'm usually a mood reader, but I have a planned TBR for September because I'm taking part in a readathon from a booktuber which I'm super excited about, and I do still have a couple more books left for the Popsugar Reading Challenge. Did anybody else do Popsugar this year?
Also I feel like a planning sheet would be great to keep track of what our books work for. Do we have any spreadsheet whizzes around, or should I try to set one up in the next couple of days? any volunteers? 🙈

like Amanda said, all books have to be started after the beginning of the challenge which will be on 19 September 2020, 9pm UTC - here's the countdown
"◈ Only books read during the specified round can be used (“read date” is what counts, provided it started after the challenge started)"

I am as well, but all these food books seem to be popping up! It’s just meant to be I suppose! What is the Popsugar challenge?
I’m terrible at any sort of spreadsheet but my fiancé is a wiz with them. She’d probably have no problem whipping one up if no one else can :)

The Popsugar Reading Challenge was created by popsugar and has been a thing for a couple of years now. There are 40-50 (or more) prompts each year and it's actually what got me into reading more again a few years ago :) there's also a goodreads group.
I don't think you'll need to recrute your fiancé for our cause, I'm sure we'll be able to whip something up ;) even if it's just copying the 'books read' tab from the official spreadsheet and add some columns for tracking purposes!

With 4 votes (except for Meat'n'Read with 0 votes every other option got 2 votes)
Tequila Mockingbird won! (please excuse me ever writing Mockingjay instead of Mockingbird because that's what my fingers automatically spell)
As for our team name should we go with
- Team Tequila
- Team Mockingbird
- Team Well Read, Badly Behaved
I don't think we'll need another poll, but I can create one if y'all want :)
Also re: the official team spreadsheet, do you think we should all be able to edit it and add our books how we see fit, or should only 1-2 people be able to work on it like for every other team challenge, having (co-) captains?

Thanks for clarification on the reading dates! I will be adding a shelf for this challenge on my profile with books I’m planning to read. I think most books will be acceptable as they can fit into spell-it-outs if there are no foods mentioned, correct?

also, I should probably add that I have absolutely no idea what the best approach to this team challenge is as we don't know who our customers will be until the end of each round 😬

the "no name" is really sad 😅
we should be able to make each book longer than 50 pages work somehow, even if there's no food or drink mentioned, yeah :) just make sure to keep track of everything that gets mentioned. I usually keep a list on my phone because I always have it with me.

That’s fine with me :) I do know I plan on doing fish and chips with vinegar as long as my books get here in time 😊 I think the best approach is to make sure we have a variety. Especially some of the “frozen” items we can hold over.

I'm pretty sure the official spreadsheet isn't viewable for just anyone right now, so if you want access please dm me the email address you use for these kinda things.
Creating a separate shelf for this team challenge isn't necessary, so everyone can decide for themselves if they want one. I'm not sure yet what I'm personally gonna do.
What have y'all planned to read for this challenge so far? I'll definitely listen to the audiobook of To Kill A Mockingbird right as the challenge begins because I more or less 'had to' add it to my September tbr, plus I haven't read it yet and thought I finally should after choosing our restaurant name ;) and I'll definitely read/ listen to With the Fire on High :)

I know to start out I’m planning to read Milk and Honey, Vinegar Hill, and another book I have that’s like a “cozy mystery” about a women in a sea food place.

I’m not at the moment besides the good reads yearly challenge. I always try individual challenges but fail to keep up with them 😂

I’m going to have a look back at the challenge and try to select some books to fit. I’m just hoping some that I had planned to read anyway will be able to be slotted in place lol. No team name still! 😭😭😭

I’m tempted to eventually re-read To Kill a Mockingbird. It’s one of my least favorite books although I do like some of the thematic elements. I love our play on the name though :)
