I noticed we don’t have a lot of books for tags. I found an audiobook I will try and finish that is tagged Ireland.
would i be able to use this book?
it's tagged both middle grade and young adult and the summary calls it young adult. i can't find a length confirmation but just looking at the pages i would say it's a normal amount of text and there's no pictures or anything

Sounds convincing to me, I say it works :)

I went through a couple tags yesterday and added them when I came across books on our planning spreadsheet, but even still it wasn't quite enough! I've got one more novella I'll squeeze in for forest.
I can now actually reread Murder on the Orient Express which is tagged for tree. Plus I just found that my Phineas Redux also has an Ireland tag@Sunshine, I can recommend Muder on the Orient... with Dan Stevens as narrator.

Ugh. Remind me again why I volunteered? I really, really do not like YA. All that whine, whine, whine, boo hoo poor me. Stop whining! All that 19th century simpering virgin modesty and shyness and averted gaze and blushing that usually gets added to Fantasy YA. Why? I mean seriously? Is it Regency virgin novel or YA Fantasy? Get some backbone and guts darn it! Ugh! Someone please tell me it gets better...
Sorry, I am ranting. Happens sometimes :D
I will still finish it, but not as a happy camper :D
Just to clarify for Spin the Dawn, since the competition ends before the end of the month we answer up to 21 August and team still gets the points. Right? The problem with YA is often the angst and identity. I can take it in small doses but prefer the more realistic YA which can be more hard hitting in content.
I haven’t read YA in a while and I only read the first days so far but I didn’t find it annoying like I do many YA novels. I thought it was easy to read and entertaining.
The reasons why I don't usually do BOMs are us having no KU access in Hungary and our library system is sadly behind times: no loaning of e-books/audiobooks. Also, you can hardly find any English books. And I am unwilling to invest money into books I may end up disliking.YA or YA fantasy is also usually more a miss than a hit with me, though you can, of course, find very good ones.

100% feel you, Maddy - YA fantasy can be suuuuuch a big miss. Luckily, Maia isn't annoying me too much so far, but maybe that's cause I've been actively avoiding it for a while now.

I wouldn't even read half as much without them.
Judy wrote: "100% feel you, Maddy - YA fantasy can be suuuuuch a big miss. Luckily, Maia isn't annoying me too much so far, but maybe that's cause I've been actively avoiding it for a while now."Probably. I read some YA recently so it is quite bleh for me...
Who, me? Snarky? Neeeeveeeer :D :D Whoops? I would say I am sorry, but that would be a bold faced lie :D
Seriously though - do you think I need to rewrite them?
Well someone already responded so too late to change now :D I am not enjoying the book, as I am sure can be deduced from those itty bitty snarky questions, but I see no reason to hide my disdain. I am really NOT looking forward to other half of the book. It should have ended with the reveal, dungeon and punishment. I am soooo ready for them to just die. Slightly evil attitude, sure, but they make stupid decisions and annoy me. I mean come on. She won and got 20 000 annual income. Lovely. But if she fails at anything ever again, not just her, but also her brother and father will be executed. I mean seriously? Before that victory, the danger was only on her life, now she has dragged her family into it as well. Is all that money and financial security worth the constant risk to their lives? The spying on her and her family's every action that will probably happen, the threats, the general unease? Yeah, I know, she conveniently forgets that part and gloats about her victory (to herself at least). It is frankly ridiculous. She went from a frying pan into a fire and yet makes it sound like her best choice ever. I find it utterly stupid. So I have no patience for continuing this godawful drama
Yup, no need to always be super nice with the questions! I did Day 1 for Jetsetters and I was already hating the book but I tried sooooo hard to make it somewhat neutral 😂 The ending of this section was so oddddddd but tbh clearly I didn't pay that much attention when I read it this morning cause I couldn't remember all of that stuff about her family being in danger now and her actually becoming the imperial tailor - this is just the stupid YA fantasy stuff I gloss right over cause it's so irrelevant to me. My brain just turned off once she got into the dungeon...
sigh. Lucky you! My brain didn't :D That girl has no sense and self-preservation whatsoever, but has a giant chip on her shoulder and while she has skills, she lacks brains. Oh well. I will finish it tomorrow. I have had enough silliness for one day :D
Very typical for heroines in YA fantasy ;) though I'm reading the Study series at the moment (or well, finally read the 5th book), and I don't think anyone has so far topped Yelena when it comes to making ridiculous decisions... I have lost count of the number of times she got herself thrown into a dungeon or abducted! I hope to also finish tomorrow, it was a really quick read this morning.

Maddy wrote: "The things we do for challenges..Like read horrible books :D "Fortunately I think we really hit the low point right at the start with the first BOM 😂
I am starting to wonder if the current BOM will take a turn for the worse. I was getting Project Runway vibes with a touch of Mulan. I don't mind the competition aspect, but I may wind up changing my mind with the questions. I haven't had a chance to read this section yet so I am curious with what happens. I am really hoping I don't get reminders of The Selection series.
Oh I believe it will... It really should have been over with the competition. It frankly feels like one book ended and another started with the same characters. And MC is just annoying. If you didn't like selection series with our dear, dear America Singer that needs a really, really good smack, then you won't like this either :DSorry :D
all of you who can make yourself read 'bad' books for the BOM points are far stronger than i am, i basically look at any YA book with a heavy romance angle and groan at this point lol
LOL. I like your approach :D And to be fair - we didn't know it would be bad! Look at that avg rating. It is ridiculously high :D
I like YA fantasy sometimes but I personally needed a break. I chose not to read this one right now.
The lure of the points is just too strong... usually I still avoid the YA fantasy BOM picks but oh well, this one didn't sound too bad and my library had it available... at least it's a quick read, there's that! And I'm not hating it, I just don't see giving it more than 3 stars, either.

haha totally fair! the thing is that all these YA books seem to have super high ratings so i never really look at the rating just the summary and then look to see if there are reviews talking about instalove or love triangles and then i'm like ah, just as i suspected!
i agree that sometimes there are ones that are good though, like six of crows was mentioned earlier and i love that one. although tbh i do roll my eyes *a bit* at the neat pairing off that happens in that as well, but it's definitely written better than most seem to be.

Spin the Dawn so far is not bad for me. Yes there have been parts that could have been better but really I’ve been enjoying it. It is a very easy read which I’m really enjoying. I like that it is fast paced. So far we have had Mulan and Cinderella I’m wondering if there will be nods to others.
