@Colleen / qe: listening to audiobooks has increased my reading so dramatically, there's no way I'd be getting to as many books if I didn't have that option

It’s great seeing so many familiar faces!
Not sure if we will be limited in books to read each week. Can’t remember if it was the last TT or another NBRC challenge. I am not planning on reading more than the 3-5 books a week I said in the sign up form and really do not want to, however if needed I can pick up a quick read if someone is not able to read all of their books in any particular week. I have gotten really burnt out on challenges. This is my second big group challenge I have done this year. I am normally reading a bunch of books and decided not to do that this year. In past years I would commit to 7-10 books a week. I decided not to overwhelm myself this year and get back to enjoy reading and doing just a few challenges this year.
Hi Ora! There are no penalties for reading less or more. :) That was at the last TT challenge - 7 sins.
I also signed up with less books/month than I could/would normally read. With the current situation, I know that I won't have as much time as I would wish. So, no pressure, let's just have fun. :)
I'm usually able to read more during challenges than what I sign up for, but I just don't want to put the pressure on myself - cause when I'm burned out, I literally cannot read more. At least this time there's no benefit in reading bigger books - the last round of TT really pushed me to my limit & it took me until the end of March to fully recover 😂
Oh yes, the silly 1000pager anthologies I read for TT7 ..... LOL I also promised myself NEVER to to that again.

Did you also read the Christmas Wedding one? I will never be able to hear the words wedding and Christmas in the same sentence again.....

I was that way by the end of last year. It took awhile for me to really want to read a book.
I have popped over with my fridge from Ireland to ask for recommendations from you lovely people I like literary fiction / mystery thrillers and historical but am happy to consider anything I have looked at Aiswyra's list but it is too far off my beatentrack I am afraid.
You can message me or we would always be happy to see you on our team page - Team "round Ireland with a fridge"
anyone wanting a book recc from me try
Hideaway Ella Minnow Pea: A Novel in Letters The Giver of Stars or The Great Alone
Hi everyone, I see the first challenge is up. Not sure how we are going to tackle it but I'm offering some potential reads that I can manage. The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe by C.S. Lewis- works for most of the tags.
Letters- C, L
Lab Girl by Hope Jahren
works for tree, forest genres
Letters- L
What the Wind Knows by Amy Harmon- works for Ireland
Letter : A
Daughter of the Forest by Juliet Marillier- works for forest and Ireland
Letter: D
I will wait and see what everyone decides and adapt to suit.
I will look to see what I can find. Two books I have been wanting to read that will work for a couple of lettersNarcissus in Chains Laurell K. Hamilton and House of Earth and Blood Sarah J. Maas
I have no idea what the BOMs are this month, however I will see if and will see if any work for the first round. I generally try to read all of the BOMs during TT. The few times I haven’t was because of cost or unable to get them from my library or scribd.
I was just reading back on comments and I forgot to link to my shelf, so here it is: https://www.goodreads.com/review/list...
Hi Everyone ..I’m Sunshine and live in a suburb of Chicago. I work in HR and manage the company’s unemployment claims. So, I’m really busy. I’ve been looking for wheeleathon to come up for a while. It’s my favorite NBRC challenge and have played it several times.
I’m looking forward to reading with everyone

I read mostly anything but mostly contemporary romance and mysteries. My favorite book in the last 6-months was I Hunt Killers
At the beginning of the thread, in one of Judy's messages, there's a link to our "Planning Sheet" where you can start adding your books.
The BOMs for June are The Jetsetters - discussion thread here (starts 14 June)
Five Feet Apart - discussion thread here (starts 21 June)
(also linked at the beginning of the thread)
I'm already on hold at my library and will try to do both - if you want to sign up to write DQs, feel free to do! :)
Can someone enlighten me on what MPG stands for. I think all of my crazy theories miss the mark! :-)
Melindam wrote: "At the beginning of the thread, in one of Judy's messages, there's a link to our "Planning Sheet" where you can start adding your books."I did not realize that. I will add books later today or tomorrow when I have a little bit of time to do so.
I have the audio of Gone with the Wind. It works for Tree and hoping it will get approval for spring cover. Since it’s a sepia cover I am not sure.
According to the rules, 1 task can be claimed by several Team Members, just not again by the same one.
QqFor task #74: Read a book with MPG LGBT
Can the MPG be tagged MM of FF? Most LGBT books MPG are listed this way.
I do not have my computer available this week which is making things a little harder since I only have my iPad and phone right now. Is there some place I can find the tasks that are not in the SS? Some of the longer tasks I cannot see what the entire task is.

"Never mind with spring cover. I just saw another task that it will work for.
@Sunshine: it has to be LGBT and it doesn't have to be listed as MPG or top-shelf, as long as it's tagged by someone (not yourself or a team member) as such.

Sunshine wrote: "QqFor task #74: Read a book with MPG LGBT

Unfortunately not. For the task, LGBT has to be a MPG .
For the genre tag (e.g. tree, forest,...) it only has to be tagged by one person (not on your team).
I put additional options on the planning sheet. I'm sure there will be more, but just don't know them all yet. :)Is that what you would like us to do?

I just realized a book I was planning on reading has a Q character. I will just hold off reading and hope we get a word with a Q in it.
I looked back at the planning list and saw we do not have any 'E' books yet. I have a book starting with 'E' I could read if no one else has any. I could replace one of the ones I already put on. Let me know what is needed as we plan more. :-)
Go ahead Alison. It is just a planning sheet anyway. And not everyone has put in their options as yet. It is best to have many book options that us scrambling at the last moment.
What I read is going to depend on what holds I get and what is available from the digital lending library.
I usually don't really plan out what I'm picking up next either so I completely understand when you're not sure yet what you're going to read! The planning spreadsheet is mostly to get an overview of what we've got and what we still need so we can adjust accordingly during the week(s).Just make sure to enter the book on the spreadsheet whenever you actually know you're reading it :)
Ora wrote: "I just realized a book I was planning on reading has a Q character. I will just hold off reading and hope we get a word with a Q in it."I've been keeping a list of books I'm even remotely interested in with Q/U/X/Z cause it's always such a struggle to find these (and then feels like a waste when I randomly read them without fitting them into a spell it out)
Is anyone going to participate in the BOMs (and wants to do DQs)? They're worth quite a lot of extra points and the discussions are usually fun!
Sorry, sorry, I was busy with my Bachelor paper defense. Anyway, I am alive! In case you wondered :D Since I am playing this the first time, tell me if I get it:
We get a word to spell out. Bonus points if it has one of 5 tags. We also get tasks. Books must fit one of the tasks AND be in spellout.
Questions:
What if book for spellout does not fit any tasks?
Do tasks change each time spell out word changes, or are those tasks for the whole game?
Hi Maddy! Hope your defense went well! :) What if book for spellout does not fit any tasks?
If the book doesn't fit any of the tasks, we don't get the 5 bonus points we'd get for a task. So it's not the end of the world if it doesn't work for any of the tasks ;) but there's so many different tasks, I'm sure you'll be able to fit pretty much every book in somewhere!
Do tasks change each time spell out word changes, or are those tasks for the whole game?
The tasks stay the same for the whole game & every team member has their own task list (so task #1 can be completed by each of us). Only the tags change when we get a new word.
Dear Team, the collection of books recommended by other Teams, will be collected in this post ("beginning" of our thread): Book recommendations by other Teams
Also, the books you loved most in 2020 are listed for other Teams to browse:

Thank you :)My defense was epic :D
My pc mic failed and when I installed the program on my phone, it froze when I had to present. Technology hates me today :D
It was a disaster and I was freaking out so bad, but I didn't get too many questions and reviewer was kind so I think I passed :)
anyway, thank you for clarifying :)
I do not really plan my books in advance. So I can be the place- filler for tasks or letters we are missing or something :)
Whoops that sounds like a mess, technology can suck so much! But I'm sure you passed anyway :) I was so glad I didn't have to do a defense when I submitted my thesis a year ago.
No problem, I'm not much of a planner either! It's always good to have people who can spontaneously read something to fit leftover tasks/letters :)
