Michelle (govmarley) | 3150 comments My work week has been CRAZY so I haven't had the energy to read once I fall into bed, but I am listening to Only Time Will Tell which I've had on my TBR forever. I should finish this weekend.

Oh fun, getting to take care of your sister’s kids!

I thought about reading the BOM. It was a Reese’s book club selection. But there are a lot of mixed reviews. I kept putting it on my tbr, then taking it off. I finally decided not to read it. If you read it, let us know what you think!

The Conductors does look interesting!

Yesterday my 2nd daughter turned 18. Today my oldest gets married. Tomorrow is my 23rd wedding anniversary. So I know crazy!! My reading time is greatly reduced this weekend. And my audio time is almost non-existent.

I noticed that! But I made a long list of stuff I would like to read that’s been recommended by other teams, so I am going to save those slots.
I considered using that book for “space ship on cover” too but there is at least one other book I would like to read this summer that has a spaceship on the cover, whereas I am less likely to read something else with a brown cover.
These tasks, man. Difficult to know what ya might regret not saving. :)

Laura | 5524 comments I know! I don’t read well from random recommendations. I usually need to know the person doing the recommendations. But I went searching to see if anyone recommended Guild Hunter, because I was using up the #1, #2, etc in series much too quickly. :)

Hi Laura,

I recommend the entire series. I love them all. I just listed the first books as a starting point.

Enjoy them. Love both series’s.

Alysa H. | 3840 comments Re recs, well, there are a lot of things that I wanted to read anyway, and my GR TBR is like a giant dump of every book that has ever sounded interesting. So out of control, lol. So this rec task situation will just make me bump those books up the list!

For Quidditch, I had also finally broken down and signed up for 2 months free of Kindle Unlimited because I thought it would come in handy depending on books being read during the match. So even though I have a bazillion other book sources and generally try to avoid reading bad books on purpose, I am trying to make the most of my 2 month membership by taking the opportunity to read stuff that was on my TBR anyway that happens to be on KU. I guess that’ll be only 2 books during Round 1, but more are planned for the next Rounds, depending on what words we get.

So many books, such a short human lifespan... 😄

I’ve been seeing lots of mixed reviews, too! (Mainly not-so-good ones.) I finished it, but I haven’t posted the BOM answers yet. I plan to do that today or tomorrow, then I’ll add it as completed on the spreadsheet.

As far as my personal opinion on the book... I mean, it wasn’t the greatest or most entertaining read, & it DEFINITELY was not worth $12.99 for the ebook, but I ended up giving it 3 stars (probably more like 2.8 stars rounded up). I went into it not expecting to love it anyway because it’s not a book or genre I would’ve chosen on my own. But it wasn’t the worst book I’ve ever read. LOL. These BOM points cost me $13, though - so yay me for taking a huge one for the team.😂

Laura | 5524 comments Thanks, Frankie! There have been so many people in my house that we’re ignoring our anniversary until Tuesday when my favorite little restaurant is open. :)

I love my KU. Last year around Mother’s Day they had a sale and I bought 24 months for significantly less than the regular monthly price would be. So I don’t have to pay again until next year!

Probably a good idea. You’ll be able to relax and not be in the Father’s Day crush.

I recently went to dine in at a restaurant for my birthday. It was strange after not doing that for months. It was nice to eat food hot and have it served to me!

I know the feeling! I try to get rid of some dead weight periodically from my tbr.

And yeah, I am gonna try to hold on to genre and series tasks as much as possible too. I will be reading some books that were recommended by other teams as well as from our team recs.

[[ Frankie ]] (freedbyfiction) | 536 comments Speaking of the Guild Hunter series... anyone wanna give me some awesome paranormal/urban fantasy book/series recommendations?

message 273: by Laura (new)

Laura | 5524 comments Check Amazon around Christmas. They advertise it as a gift, but you can send the gift to yourself. :)

Anything by Ilona Andrews is great UF, especially the Kate Daniels series! I pre-order their (husband/wife team) stuff without even reading the description.

One I love that I know not everyone loves as much is Elizabeth Hunter for paranormal. I started with her vampires and I love them! A lot of her stuff is KU.

Another one that doesn’t get a lot of love is T. L. Haddix’s Firefly Hollow Series. The paranormal aspect is secondary to the heartbreaking story in each book.

[[ Frankie ]] (freedbyfiction) | 536 comments Real quick question (since I’m posting BOM DQ answers right now!) - what’s the minimum number of days we have to answer in order for us to get the points for it? I can never remember for sure, but it seems like I remember that we don’t have to answer for all of them - maybe 3 days worth? - & still get the points for answering? Or do we have to answer all days’ questions?

Thank you so much for the recs! I just double checked, cuz I was pretty sure I own The Scribe by Elizabeth Hunter, & I do! I’ve had it for years & just never seem to get around to reading it. Sometimes I think my books get lost in my Kindle library. I’ll scroll through my entire library every now & then, & discover a BUNCH of books that I bought (like if they were on sale or something) but haven’t read yet... & honestly, that’s almost like Christmas in itself.😂

If you do read The Scribe, in addition to my recommendation, that series was recommended by Namita on Team Odyssey, so it works for the recommended by a different team task.

Welcome! Let us know what you would like to read that fits a letter in our word to spell-out. We're spelling out TRIPTOTHEZOO this round.

Never mind. In looking at the spreadsheet, it looks like you've figured it out nicely. :)

I've added a column for you to the Tasks sheet, so you can keep track of which tasks you've done. :)

message 284: by Laura (new)

Laura | 5524 comments Geri, your book Shadow Falling doesn't appear to have MPG Zombies currently. Is there another task you can use it for?

message 285: by Laura (last edited Jun 22, 2020 08:11PM) (new)

Laura | 5524 comments Hey team! Just a little update. We are currently claiming spots in our 6th spell-out, so let's try to fill that one before we start putting anything into the next one. Most of our spell-outs just need 2-4 books to complete them.

Tags: 10 have been added to the spreadsheet. 7 have been completed. I'm about halfway through the audio on my last one. I can rush it and try to fit one more in, or I can save the rest of the series for the next round. Books with tags to be finished:

Laura - Archangel's Blade
Robyn - The Butterfly Garden
Alysa - Things in Jars

Ooh, good to know - thanks! I have it on my “next up” list, so I’d like to get to it for Wheel, if we get a good spin for it (& I can squeeze it into some of my other challenges).

[[ Frankie ]] (freedbyfiction) | 536 comments Laura wrote: "Geri, your book Shadow Falling doesn't appear to have MPG Zombies currently. Is there another task you can use it for?"

OMG. You know, I’ve been having this issue A LOT lately. I’ll read specific books for MPG tasks & while I’m reading it, the MPG I’m reading it for will drop off. It’s happened to me about four times in a row now, including with the book I’m reading now, The Other Wife. I started reading it for the purpose of a MPG Crime tag - now it’s vanished & I am pretty frustrated about it. So, I’ve learned my lesson & will have to screenshot the main page every time I read a book specifically for a MPG task. LOL.

message 289: by [[ Frankie ]] (new)

[[ Frankie ]] (freedbyfiction) | 536 comments Laura, I marked The Jetsetters as “read” on the planning sheet & also put in the BOM DQ’s link. I’ll post them here as well so you can add them to the main sheet.

[[ Frankie ]] (freedbyfiction) | 536 comments If I start reading Five Feet Apart, the other June BOM, but don’t finish it before the end of the round in a few days, I’ll be able to use it for the next round, right? & get the DQ points? Or would I have to wait & start it after the second round starts?

message 291: by Laura (new)

Laura | 5524 comments Thanks Frankie!

For the MPG tasks, as long as a captain/co-captain verifies it, it’s okay to use, even if it drops off afterward. So if you post the book/genre here then one of us can take a look while it’s hopefully still there!

message 292: by Laura (new)

I think Laura is asking because MPG is different from just anywhere in tags[top shelves] with no minimum number...

message 298: by Geri (new)

Geri OK. I thought the MPG just had to be on page 1. If there is a minimum number, let me know, Laura!

MPG has to be on the main front page of the book, before you click through to "top shelves" :)
