Laura | 5524 comments I underestimated as well. I read 35-40 books per month, but I signed up for 35, planning to read longer books. So far I only have one book over 1,000 pages planned, though.

I'll put this one on the spreadsheet for our first R, for one of the characters. :)

I put it down for the MPG LGBT. Let me know if you want to put it down for a different task. You can only do a task once per person.

Britta (macdeath) | 148 comments I'm actually in the middle of rereading the Twilight books for the first time in 10 years so I can definitely do at least one of the TWILIGHT tags :')

I've also queued up a lot of longer books for the summer so I made a pretty conservative estimate for how many books I'll read per month, hopefully I'll have the time and the reading mood to fly through them quickly enough!

message 108: by Alysa (new)

Alysa H. | 3840 comments Tomorrow evening at 5pm for me! Yay!

I am actually going to start with Network Effect (the new Murderbot book) because my library e hold came in at a weird time. I had to check it out before I lost my place in line, and now I have to read it before it gets yanked.
I was hoping our first word would have some N's, but oh well.
It'd better work for some character names...

message 109: by Geri (new)

Geri I really do like wheelathon because it’s a great time to mix things up. Read longer books or reread favorites. And almost any book can fit for a word. I got a few books from the library yesterday and they both fit!

I’ve been wanting to read that series! I’m recently getting into more science fiction & that’s one I’ve been trying to get to! Maybe I’ll start it for Wheel, since book one is on the short side.

Britta (macdeath) | 148 comments Starts at midnight for me so I probably won't get much reading done today but then there's a whole weekend at least!

What book is everyone starting with?

message 119: by Laura (new)

Laura | 5524 comments Yes, please link your shelves!

Just a quick note: I’ve known LaurLa and Michelle through Goodreads for several years. We mod together in another group. Both of them have had their work lives get crazy busy lately. So when I saw we were on the same team, and I had not said yes to co-captain (although I thought I had), I offered to help. I haven’t captained anything at NBRC since Wobble, but I do captain Karen’s Uno challenge every year. So my experience is old, but I do have some. :)

All that to say that sometimes we might be slow to respond, especially on something that needs captain consensus. But we’ll do our best to tilt at all the windmills with you in the best Quixote style!

I usually read 2 or 3 books at a time. 😀 I love variety. I’ll start with a book that will work for 2 challenges, Easy Charm and one I have been wanting to read for a while House of Earth and Blood.

So ready!

message 122: by Alysa (last edited Jun 12, 2020 07:34AM) (new)

Alysa H. | 3840 comments I usually read 2 or 3 books at a time as well, in the normal course of things -- or even 4 if I'm also in the middle of reading something long to my kid! -- but I actually often read fewer books at a time during challenges. It's like, I'd rather complete one after the next after the next, rather than a bunch of books all finished at the same time. But, we shall see. Current circumstances being strange.

I'm going to start with Network Effect effect, like I mentioned, and then probably Blameless (my hold came in this morning, yay!). Then I'll start in on the other books I already put on the spreadsheet.

I've been reading the Harry Potter books aloud to my daughter, and we are going to start #4 soon, which I am excited about. It's been really amazing to see her reactions to these books. Like, whenever Snape does something unfair in potions class, and she is like "WHAT?!" :D
We started a different book last night, something that's just a little too short to have counted for Wheel anyway. If we finish it during the weekend days, we can start HP #4 sometimes next week. :D

message 123: by Laura (new)

Laura | 5524 comments I usually have a physical or ebook going and an audiobook. So I’ll start with Dear Aaron and Valentine Between the Sheets: A Reverse Harem Anthology of Stories that Get to the Point.

Oh, I recognize a couple of authors in the reverse harem anthology. Let me know what you think of it. I have some reverse harem books I will be reading for the challenge. Book 1 in a variety of series. Trying to find more I like.

message 126: by Laura (new)

Laura | 5524 comments Our library had the audiobooks, so my youngest have listened to all 7 HP books during quarantine.

message 127: by Laura (new)

Laura | 5524 comments Geri, I will. BUT, all of the Between the Sheets anthologies are only available for a limited time before the authors get the rights to the stories back. I think they are fundraisers. This one was from February 2019, so you probably can’t get your hands on it, and I probably can’t loan it.

message 128: by Alysa (new)

Alysa H. | 3840 comments How young are your youngest?
I'm a bit worried about mine (9 1/2) being old enough for the last 3 HP books, when we get there. I was planning to space them out more, so she'd be like 12 by the time we get to Deathly Hallows, but with quarantine -- and with some of her friends reading them all and starting to do spoilers (THOSE LITTLE BASTARDS!) -- I don't know if that's realistic.

Alysa H. | 3840 comments Question:

Would y'all consider this cover as having a cityscape (for Task #26)?
I think it does, but it's not ONLY a cityscape because there's also a person in the foreground.

Blameless (Parasol Protectorate, #3) by Gail Carriger

message 130: by Laura (new)

Laura | 5524 comments I would consider it a cityscape.

My youngest is 10. But the older girls and the movies have spoiled stuff.

I let my girls read Twilight at 12, so that gives you some idea of what/when I consider books appropriate. My 2nd oldest will be 18 in a week. She reads/listens to Ilona Andrews. But she skips the racy parts.

And now I will start a book! It was 3 hours between finishing my last before Wheel started. It was rough! :)

LaurLa | 2378 comments Hello team! The words TGIF have never been truer!!! It's been a loong work week, my brain is tired :-(

Tomorrow I will try to put together some recommendations. I read Romance/PNR/Rom Suspense almost exclusively so I always feel like what I read isn't 'great literature' but there are some (esp by authors) that I really do want to share. So I'll put me head to it tomorrow.

I think we start in just a few minutes for me, so I'll start with Inconvenient Wife which will work for I, T so a good start! I'll probably follow up this weekend with Rusty Nail and Tempting Fate which is short but I gotta get it read.
