message 51: by Natasha (new)

Natasha (tasha_naatasha) I want to read around 22 books this year and I am reading two books already...

message 52: by Camilla (new)

Camilla I lowered my goal for this year a bit from what I read in 2014, so now I aim for 150 instead of last year's 200 (which I just reached). I know I had less time to read now than I did last spring and summer.

message 53: by Carol (new)

Carol Stankey (carolanne62) | 3 comments My goal is 100 books. I am going to try the 2015 Reading Challenge,an A to Z Authors Last name challenge and just found the Monthly Motif Challenge. I have book titles laid out on an Excel spreadsheet and a long list of books to get from my library. So far I have 5 books read for the year.

message 54: by Katherine (new)

Katherine Decker Feeling very ambitious and going for 125. I'm a librarian so I try to read a lot in order to be able to offer more suggestions to patrons.

message 55: by Berit (new)

Berit | 138 comments My goal is 88 books for this year. I think I've already read six so I'm off to a pretty good start

message 56: by Shannon (new)

Shannon (shannonamelia) | 19 comments I started with 200, but I realized I will likely be working two jobs this year, so I lowered it to 104 (hoping to choose 52 lighter books of my own in addition to the challenge books, which I mostly tried to make more substantial than my usual fare).

As someone else said, I'll be thrilled if I complete this goal on time. My GR friends set goals over 200, and I feel so inadequate comparatively!

message 57: by Renee (new)

Renee Andrews (gagatorgal) | 25 comments My goal last year was 50 and I actually read 54. I've upped the ante a little this year and set a goal of 60 books. Looking forward to exceeding this goal as well.

message 58: by Suze (new)

Suze Bryant | 7 comments I have set mine at 100. Mainly because I'd love to read 100 books in a year at least once in my life, and this year seems a good year to try!

message 59: by Megan (new)

Megan (megan_morris) | 170 comments I originally set my goal to fifty, and that was before this challenge. That being said I was in a VERY long (two plus year) slump where I only read a few things, so I'm keeping it at fifty because considering that it will be amazing if I can get up to 50 books in a year again.

message 60: by Marah (new)

Marah (eyreo) 65 new books. I often reread throughout the year, so total I hope it will be 100 books.

message 61: by Maria (last edited Jan 28, 2015 01:29AM) (new)

Maria | 39 comments In 2013 I set my goal at 125 and failed miserably having read only 42 books. Yeah, I was aiming quite high. In 2014 I set my goal at 80-100 and failed again. lol Last year I read only 31.
This year I set my goal at 70 and hopefully this challenge will help me to achieve it.

message 62: by Tammy (new)

Tammy I set my goal at 24 before deciding to take on this challenge. In the past I read all of the time. Then went through some trauma and couldn't concentrate enough to read a book. It feels now like I'm making up for lost time. It seems like I've reconnected with an old friend and I'm loving it.

message 63: by Cait (new)

Cait (clickcait) | 480 comments Tammy, something similar happened for me. I couldn't focus on books very well for quite a while, but when I did get back to reading I found it incredibly comforting. :-)

message 64: by Maple (new)

Maple (maplerie) | 307 comments I picked 83 for the year. I'm feeling good about this, and am already off to a good start.

message 65: by Dor (new)

Dor | 15 comments I've set my goal 50 but hope it will be much more :D

message 66: by Steven (new)

Steven Tackett | 66 comments I've set it to 52 for myself, but I have a feeling if I keep the pace I've set, it'll definitely be more... I'm already about 4/5 books ahead of pace

message 67: by Francesca (last edited Jan 28, 2015 01:20AM) (new)

Francesca | 391 comments When I set my goal I only set it at 20. I used to read all the time and read a lot of books each year but over the last few years I haven't been reading as much and forgot how much I love it, then last year when I went on holiday, I read every day and got back into it. I set my target quite low but I think I'll probably exceed it, especially as I'm taking part in the reading challenge so that's 52 books. I'm also going to be continuing to read the 'A Song of Ice and Fire' series which I started last year so that adds a few more books. I thought I'd rather set my target lower and then exceed it then set it really high and not make it, just because in my head I'll feel like I've done better and if I set it really high I'll probably feel more pressured by it and might not enjoy myself as much. That's just me though, I'm sure other people don't have problems with this.

message 68: by Jodez (new)

Jodez (jodez4) | 16 comments I set myself 60 this year, after doubling the 24 I'd set for myself last year.
Hopefully I am over my reading slump and wont burn myself out again.

message 69: by Pilvinetaevas (new)

Pilvinetaevas | 1 comments My goal is to read 42 books-same amount of books i read in 2014

message 70: by Steven (new)

Steven Tackett | 66 comments I set 52 but it could be a lot more or less depending on if I decide to follow through with working on a story of my own...

message 71: by Ashleigh (new)

Ashleigh (ashleighsbookshelf) I've set a target of 75 having read about 60 books the past 2 years but I've hit a point where I've found myself reading so much more prolifically (I've read 10 books this month so far) and I'm thinking I might aim for 100... but 75 is a comfortable goal based on the fact I have 6 weeks of exams in May/June & might not get much reading done!

message 72: by Steven (new)

Steven Tackett | 66 comments "
message 77: by Niki

I set an embarrassingly low 10. I'm ashamed to admit I read maybe 4 books in the past two years. So it seemed best to start low and ease my way back into it. Plus if I hit 10 and pooped out of this reading challenge at least one goal was completed.
"

I understand where your coming from... I haven't read much at all since college (five years) and figured, if I'm going to do it, do it well, it's why I set a book a week. Even if I don't reach the 52 I set, I'll still have read more in one month than I have in 5 years.

message 73: by Lou (new)

Lou LaJeunesse | 45 comments I setmy goal at 100 but should bring thaat up as I will be doing much more than that if I read as much as I usually do.

message 74: by Marah (new)

Marah (eyreo) 65 books for me this year. New books. I reread more books than new ones last year so this year I want to read 65 new books and then no limit on rereads. :)

message 75: by Marina (new)

Marina | 272 comments I hope to read 50 books this year, but of course if I want to complete this challenge it should be at least 52. And I have already done a couple of side-reads, so adding them my reading goal should be about 60 books this year.
I think I'll stick with 50 for now :-)

message 76: by Saeed (new)

Saeed It's 70 for now ,I've finished 22 so far, which means I'll have to increase that goal soon

message 77: by Ella (new)

Ella | 234 comments 100, I'm off to a good start, so I might increase that later.

message 78: by Megan (new)

Megan (megan_morris) | 170 comments I originally set it to 50 because I thought 'I haven't read a lot in years.' And now I'm looking at the rate I'm plowing through books and if I keep it up this way I'll be over 90 books for the year. I'm wondering if I should change it to 100 and actually challenge myself...

message 79: by Silvia (new)

Silvia Turcios | 304 comments My GR Challenge is set in 50 right now, but then I'm doing the 2015 Reading Challenge from PopSugar that is 52 books and my Manga Challenge 2015 is set in 50. so because the PopSugar include one novel graphic that means I have to read 101 books+Mangas. Of course is impossible for me, but that's the goal :)

message 80: by Ali (new)

Ali Mine is 170, which works out to one every 2.15 days. I'm on schedule so far, but my goal is probably too high to be realistic. Last year, I read 151, but I went through a whole "shelf" of novellas and short stories stored on my e-reader, and that helped inflate my total. This year, the books are longer, and my time is shorter. I predict I'll end up somewhere between 100 and 125 for the year.

message 81: by SaraFair (new)

SaraFair My goal is the 52 in the categories created by the challenge, and to stick to the rules. But mostly I did it to get out of my usual book categories and become more "well read". I am learning so much more about what's out there just by researching what the options are for the categories and going all over Goodreads!

message 82: by Becky (new)

Becky (firesmithb) | 6 comments I have not been reading nearly enough over the last several years as I used to. So I am setting a goal of 20 books just to make it attainable for me. I hope to read more than that. I already had 2 books read and the last one I finished in a week, which is really fast for me. I am just happy to be reading again!

message 83: by Jody (new)

Jody (jodybell) | 531 comments I originally set my goal at 50 books (the same as last year, which I only just hit).

Then I found this challenge and upped it to 52 books to match that.

Now, it's the beginning of March and I've already read 28 books so I think I'm going to have to revise it again before too long! I have a 5.5 year old daughter, so I also include new books I read with her, which does inflate my total, but a book is a book!

message 84: by Becky (last edited Mar 04, 2015 11:18PM) (new)

Becky (firesmithb) | 6 comments Wow, Jody! You've already read 28 books? I have a challenge going with some friends and family members and we were talking about what books would qualify. We thought Young Adult books would be ok but not children's books, like pre-school level.I guess since they are so quick and easy to read. But I have a coconut cookbook I am going to count. There is some text, but it is mostly recipes. I guess as long as I read the recipes, then I've read the book! Lol. I wish I could read 52 books in a year. I really want to read more than the 20 I said I would. I am gonna shoot for 30 and see what happens. For me, that is a big deal, so here I go! : )

message 85: by Becky (new)

Becky (firesmithb) | 6 comments Sara, I didn't know about the weekly book reading challenge categories until recently. I am going to try to at least do some of those challenges. Next year I will be better prepared and get started reading right away!

message 86: by Jody (new)

Jody (jodybell) | 531 comments For me, a book is a book, so I count them all! It also encourages me (not that I need encouragement when it comes to books!) to find new books for my daughter. :)

message 87: by Zaz, Mood Minion (new)

Zaz | 1387 comments Mod
I count all the books too for the Goodreads reading challenge (comics, manga, picture books, children books...) but for the Popsugar one, I don't use them (except as double or for the graphic novel week).
I already read 32 books of 68. I'll finish the challenge before the end of the year again :D

message 88: by Jody (new)

Jody (jodybell) | 531 comments Me too Zaz - for the Popsugar challenge I'm using novels, but for my 52, they all count.

message 89: by Sophie (new)

Sophie (sawphie) I was about to start a new topic, but my question can be added to this one : do you adapt your GR reading challenge during the year ?

I started with a goal of 50 books, thinking this would be way to much and I was already planning to skip a few weeks of this group's challenge. But being in this group made me read much more than anticipated, both in the weekly topics and in side-reads books (mostly audiobooks). So now I'm wondering if I should adapt my 50 books goal or if I should let it like that and see how many more books I can read this year. What do you think?

message 90: by Jody (new)

Jody (jodybell) | 531 comments I had been wondering what to do about this too - I just went to check my progress & found that I've actually already achieved it! I think I'll adjust mine up - that way, once I've finished the Popsugar challenge, I'll still have something else to work towards.

My goal was the same, but I've already read 41 books. I don't think I'll change my goal, but now I know that I can challenge myself even harder next year!

message 92: by Sophie (new)

Sophie (sawphie) That's why I'm thinking of adjusting it, I want to have something to challenge myself with at the end of the year! But now I don't know how many books to add. Maybe I'll start with 20 more and see later how I'm doing ;)

Brittany (booksandbottles) (gamerkiti) I've got my overall goal set up for like 72 books I think, and I'm way behind on that, so I may adjust it down to just the 52 books for this challenge this year, I haven't really decided yet.

message 94: by Jody (new)

Jody (jodybell) | 531 comments I just upped mine to 100 books - I think that's doable, as I include every book that I read, including new picture/chapter books I read to my daughter, as well as re-reads of chapter books that I read to her.

If I included every book I read to her, I'd be finished in a couple of weeks. :) She usually picks out about 7 picture books a night, plus a few chapters of whatever we're reading.

message 95: by Erica (new)

Erica | 214 comments I started with a goal of 20 books, but upped it to 52 after finding this challenge at the beginning of May. Since I've read 26 books already (20 of those since starting the challenge), I'll probably increase it again once I'm fully caught up in the challenge. I seem to be averaging about 2 books per week now.

message 96: by Francesca (new)

Francesca | 391 comments I set mine at 15 and currently it's still at 15 although soon I may up it to 20. I won't up it any further than that though as I think I'd rather exceed my goal by the end of the year than not reach it.

message 97: by Silvia (new)

Silvia Turcios | 304 comments 50 books like every year, but I include comics and mangas in my list, so I always finish with more than that :D

message 98: by Zaz, Mood Minion (new)

Zaz | 1387 comments Mod
Sophie > yes, I increase the number if I see I read more than what I expected when I set the number. I changed it in may, because I had almost reached my goal for the year :)

message 99: by Carol (new)

Carol It was 100 books, but I've increased that to 120. I may not finish them all as I'm expecting my first grandchild in November so am knitting loads at the mo.

message 100: by Ella (last edited Jun 09, 2015 09:36AM) (new)

Ella | 234 comments I have 100 on my list, but I am ahead by about 12 books. I'm going to adjust it up later in the year. That is, unless I start to really slow down the rest of the year. I want to make sure to complete my goal, since I didn't the last time I did the challenge.
