new_user wrote: "What! Mrs. Soule, how come you didn't like Smoke Thief? You didn't care for the historical aspect or...?"Yeah, I think that's it. I don't like historical novels, but I thought the paranormal aspect would make the female character stronger...but the author just made the males stronger so she was still at their mercy at all times. I wanted her to figure out how to get away from those nasty people permanently, including the amazingly arrogant "hero". I DO NOT go for that - I want the woman to have control, one of the reasons I like paranormal books so much. Even Bella in the Twilight series has that control over her inner self that keeps Edward from reading her mind and the Volturi vampires from hurting her. On top of that, apparently I'm just not in to dragons - didn't get into Kiss of Fire either (and that's NOT historical).
Ah, well, you're a reader of PNR, so Rue and Christoff's relationship shouldn't be new to you. Woman meets strong male, he assumes he will take over and she lets him think he does. LOL. ;) But I gotcha. I don't blame you about Kiss of Fire. That series was torture for me.

I just finished Dark Road Rising by P.N. Elrod. It's one of her vampire files series set in gangster era Chicago, not PNR. I enjoyed it but since the series is an ongoing storyline you'd have to read the rest of the series first.
yay--I just realized that one of the books that I HAD to read and get back to the library could count as purple. So, that's 8 of 9. :o)
1.Orange I Thirst for you by Susan Sizemore
2.Red Atlantis Rising by Alyssa Day
3. . Brown Viking Heat by Sandra Hill
4. . Green Leader of the Pack by Karen MacInerney
5.. Black My Wicked Vampire by Nina Bangs

9.. Blue Betrayed by P. C. Cast & Kristin Cast
Sigh, I really hate when an author stretches an arc across many, many books. So far we are waiting on book 5--and its STILL not totally resolved. Come on already, wind up the stupid--er, sorry, ranting at books doesn't do any good, right? :o) Still I like the secondary characters, so I guess this isn't TOO bad. I just want the bad guys to "get their comeuppance" as my Gran would have said.

The latest Disk World novel from Terry Pratchett is quite funny. Its set in the time right after Thud! and features some of the Usual Suspects--His Grace, Samuel Vimes, Duke of Ankh Morpork, Commander of the Night Guard etc, etc etc.; Archancellor Ridcully, head of the Unseen University, premier school for wizards on the Diskworld; Rincewind, the most inept wizard ever born, Coward Extraordinary, reluctant saviour of the Diskworld (and one of the few people on the Discworld to be able to scream in terror in most of the languages spoken on it); The Librarian--survivor of a magical accident at UU which resulted in him being changed from a man to an Orangutang; Lord Vetinari, Tyrant of Ankh Morpork, graduate of the School of Assassins, champion player of Thud (for Thud, think Chess--only HARD) plus of course, a new crop of hapless individuals trying to get through life with most of their appendages intact--and still in the same form that they were born in. lol, can you tell I really LIKE Pratchett? :o)
Well, time to go finish off my washing then start packing for the trip. I will be back sometime around the 27 or 28 or 29--depending on what we have to do when we get down there.

Glad you enjoyed Darkfever - I'm sorta on the fence with that one, and can't decide whether to step down or step over to the next one, but then I'm not strong on UF.
FlibBityFLooB wrote: "Congratulations on finishing, Tonya! :)Did you ever make it around to reading Destined for an Early Grave?"
Thanks Flibb!!! I did read Destined as one of my challenge books and I absolutely loved it, gave it 5 stars. I was kind of sad to finish it since there isn't another one until Febuary. Also the fact it's a spin off so it makes me wonder if Cat and Bones will be in it. I just told my BFF she has to read this series, I can't wait to see what she thinks.
BJ Rose wrote: "Tonya wrote: "9/9 done challenge complete!I just finished my last book

I am not a real big UF fan either but I guess it depends on the book. I love Mac in this book and her attitude, love her sarcatic remarks. I will continue with the series. I also want to read Moning's Highlander series. Will go to the used book store next week and see what I can find.

Although, right now I am really enjoying Lover Revealed too. (I'm about 150 pages in) Of course I always liked Butch, so that makes it more interesting.
Thanks for the suggestion on switching!

I'm starting to get really angry with myself, as I just can't settle on anything to read, so the chances of finishing the challenge are not good. I've had another swap around. I've included The Darkest Whisper, which I was 60 pages into at the start of the month, but I've just finished Interesting Times (had 100 pages left, so that more than covers what I'd already read of The Darkest Whisper).

Lynn wrote: "BDB is one of the best series out there!! They books are so addictive. I hope you finish the rest of the series once you are finished with the monthly reading challenge. Happy reading!"Wait are there more? I am reading Love Unbound right now. And then to finish the challenge, I am reading Lover Enshrined and Lover Avenged. I thought that was all of them. Are there more? Will there be more? Is Covet part of this series or something different?
Covet is the spin off. I think it's about Lassiter who will make his first appearance in either Lover Enshrined or Lover Avenged, but I'm not sure (trying not to spoil myself with too much information). Besides Covet and the last BDB book (Lover Avenged) there's the The Black Dagger Brotherhood An Insider's Guide which features a short story with Zsadist, Bella and their daughter Nalla (Father Mine). Next BDB book isn't published yet (May 2010!) and will be about JM: Lover Mine:)
Mel, Covet isnt really a spin off. Its based in the same world as BDB tho and there's some of the characters from BDB who make guest appearances. The heroine was in Lover Avenged.Won't spoil it any more for you
Ooh I'm excited! I already bought Covet but I can't read it cause I have to wait for my copy of Lover Avenged till November, grrrrr. It's cause I wanted a paperback version and it's not published yet. But now I found out it's a mass market paperback issue. It won't fit with the rest of the books anyway so maybe I just get the hardcover and get it over with :)
