I was just thinking about you the other day, Dem. You've been quiet. Glad to see you posting. Now I'm off to read your reviews.
I started Bridge of Scarlet Leaves for the monthly challenge. The story sounds very interesting, but I'm a bit disappointed by the writing. It feels a bit average, and I was hoping for beautiful and captivating writing.

I loved it too!
Travis of NNY wrote: "And I think book 5 finally gets to serious busuness with Dani"Yeah, book 4 seems to be mostly about the north seas holdings. Two women wanting to rule. Brienne searching for Sansa. Samwell off to be a maester. Cersei scheming, as always. It's good, but I miss the major characters I've come to know and love.
For those reading Burial Rites, I don't think you'll disappointed, but you might want to keep some tissues handy.

It's being a really interesting reading!
We did a group read on Burial Rites a while back. You might be interested in reading the discussion. It should be in the group themed reads folders.
Wow! the thread has 172 posts! You were very busy discussing it! I'm reading very carefully because I don't want spoilers.
We try to mark spoilers as best as we can. It was a great book for discussion. Add your own comments if you like. We'll all be happy to go back and revisit that thread.
Dem wrote: "Just finished Passing

Janice wrote: "We try to mark spoilers as best as we can. It was a great book for discussion. Add your own comments if you like. It depends on the book. In some of them the mystery/surprise is very important. In others is just the same, or I already know enough about the story.
Janice wrote: "I was just thinking about you the other day, Dem. You've been quiet. Glad to see you posting. Now I'm off to read your reviews."Thanks Janice. Unfortunately not getting time to read as much :-(
Debra wrote: "For those reading Burial Rites, I don't think you'll disappointed, but you might want to keep some tissues handy."Loved Burial Rites wonderful story.
Since it seems to be a hot topic in this thread, I hope no one minds if I ask a question about Burial Rites. Did anyone here listen to the audio? I have it on my TBR and was considering getting it during the Audible sale going on, but I wasn't sure if it would make for a good audio or if I should stick to the hard copy. Any thoughts?
Kristie, in the discussion thread Janice posted in message 1111 you'll find some comment about the audiobook. A few people listened to the book and it seems that they liked it. Take a look.
For now I'mreading two books, The Fellowship of the Ring and InkdeathI've read The Hobbit few months ago .. Or last year maybe, and I have no idea why I'm going this slow on the first book of TLOTR !!!
And I've read the 2nd book of InkWorld trilogy exactly last year, so I'm kinda lost now and little bit forgot what happened .. I hope I catch up soon !!
I'm reading Sister Pelagia and the Red Cockerel: A Novel to gain a kill on a series. It started off with way too much religious discussion for me so I'm hoping it moves along now that there is a mystery to solve. I think if I didn't enjoy the first 2 so much I would have put this down.
Kristie wrote: "Since it seems to be a hot topic in this thread, I hope no one minds if I ask a question about Burial Rites. Did anyone here listen to the audio? I loved the narrator and when I had finished listening to the audio I bought a copy of the paperback and read it again. I struggle with audio books but Burial Rites was wonderful on Audio.
Dem wrote: "Kristie wrote: "Since it seems to be a hot topic in this thread, I hope no one minds if I ask a question about Burial Rites. Did anyone here listen to the audio? I have it on my TBR and was conside..."Who was the narrator, Dem?
4/16 edited. The narrator is Morven Christie ☺
Mariab: ooh I thought it was just me !! No wonder I'm still not at page 200 !! Phew .. Now I feel much better !!

I loved the Hobbit and have never been able to get through the Fellowship. So definitely not you CFDeeDee
My breakdown is The Hobbit super awesome. The Two Towers awesome Fellowship good and return of King ok
Kristie, a few of read Revival as a buddy read. Check it out in the buddy reads section. Would love to hear what you think.
I've started The Fiery Cross, which might very well be the chunkiest book I've ever read (1443 pages). I guess I'll see you again in this thread in a month or so ;-)I'm about halfway through Bridge of Scarlet Leaves. It's okay. The writing is a bit mediocre and more romance and less war than I expected.
I finished my first Scalzi with Lock In and i loved it. It combined three things I'm fascinated in - brains, cybernetics and viruses. This got me all excited so i decided to stay along the same lines and started Nexus. I'm also listening to Thirteen for the series challenge and that will kill a series.
Peggy wrote: "I've started The Fiery Cross, which might very well be the chunkiest book I've ever read (1443 pages). I guess I'll see you again in this thread in a month or so ;-)"Lol. Good luck with that, Peggy. I am scared of chunksters. They adorn my shelves but not my currently reading shelf. I might have a problem.
Travis of NNY wrote: "My breakdown is The Hobbit super awesome. The Two Towers awesome Fellowship good and return of King ok"I pretty much agree with you, Travis.
This doesn't happen much for me, but I loved the movies much more than the books. I could watch them over and over. I always get teared up with Sam goes into the river after Frodo. I'm not much for battle scenes, but the ones in the movies are exciting for the most part and not too tedious.
I finished the 4th Game of Thrones book and have the 5th one on hold for me at the library. Lots of cliffhangers to pick up in future books.
I'm reading The Unlikely Pilgrimage of Harold Fry for the group read. It's not a book I would have normally picked up to read, but it's a fast read and is well-written. I'll be glad to get back to more thrilling stories, though.
I finished my monthly challenge read - The Serpent's Tale. This series is so good, and I'm sad because I know it doesn't finish. Did I hear correctly that someone is taking over the series and finishing it for Ariana Franklin? I'll be starting The Children Act tonight. I ordered it from the library thinking I may read it for the toppler. But I'm pretty sure I won't even get to start it on Saturday because I have two other books slated to go. But, I really want to read this book. I have it from the library. So, I shall start.
I haven't heard anything about someone taking over Ariana Franklin's series, Janice. If they do, I hope they do the series justice.
I restarted Drums of Autumn and am also reading Lord Edgware Dies and The Long War (2nd book in Terry Pratchett's Long Earth Trilogy).
I thought I'd heard something about her daughter too. It's always a risk when someone else takes over a series like that. I guess time will tell.
I finished Wizard and Glass. It's a 5 star read. I was so engaged in the story that I was laughing and crying while sitting in the waiting room at the dealership this morning. I started The Hundred-Foot Journey this afternoon. What a difference in narrator and tone.
Dawn wrote: "I had heard that her daughter might be taking it over the series."Yeah, I had heard the same, now that you mention it.
I'm reading A Street Cat Named Bob: How One Man and His Cat Found Hope on the Streets. It's not that well written, but it's and easy, fast read. Seems uplifting, so far. And the cat is quite amazing.
Finished Burial Rites. I rated it 4 stars. Really good reading. I made some comments in the old discussion thread. I plan to finish The Unlikely Pilgrimage of Harold Fry this weekend.
I am finally going to read Alex Cross's Trial. I have read all of the Alex Cross books minus this one :) I had skipped over it because I had heard it wasn't very good, but I need to read it to kill the series :)
Stephanie wrote: "I am finally going to read Alex Cross's Trial. I have read all of the Alex Cross books minus this one :) I had skipped over it because I had heard it wasn't very good, but I need to ..."A dedicated Serial Killer, for sure!

I waited FOREVER for it at the library :) I think I read it in like 3 days ;) James Patterson is such a good writer, normally. I hope his Michael Bennet books are just as good :)

I hope, for your sake that they will be. ☺
