Fist Full of Credits did not suck. So, that's good, right? XDI like that it is obviously a story within the System Apocalypse world. There are details that are like those in the main SA series, but given a little bit of a touch up to make it a bit different.
Hal was a bounty hunter, ex-marine and the story opens with him trying to catch his bounty. Which leads to a shoot out and drug lab exploding. Woo~ Good times! Right?
Yeah, well, the narrator is a little too dry (guessing it is due to his interpretation of the MC, Hal) and that smooshes down all over the story. Kinda muffles the exciting parts and snores the regular stuff. It's weird because the character acting is well done, but that shows up only for dialogue.
Meanwhile, I've gotten a few chapters of the Master Hunter K and it's not bad! The translators did a good job. I'm interested and reading the KU. I may get the audiobook. If it goes on sale. heh
Reading a LitRPG and listening to a different LitRPG was a bit of a trip. LoL The stories are different enough that I could keep track easily.
Re-reading the Dark Tower series makes me want to re-read the Stand. I read that several times, but never listened to the audiobook. I've never read Salem's Lot. I may bump that up the read list. Just got the Shining from the library a few days ago. Plan to re-read via audiobook. Not sure if I'll do it before the end of the year. Maybe save it for 2022. =)
Just looked up which books are connected to Dark Tower and here's the list from Stephen King website post:
- Salem's Lot
- Insomnia
- Stand
- Eyes of the Dragon
From Other Webposts:
- It
- Hearts in Atlantis
- Regulators
- Desperation
- Shining
Finished doing all reviews from spreadsheets... doing November/December 2020/2021 is gonna be a scavenger hunt for later...
Might have to leave it for after some spreadsheet work... copied 2021 sheet today... gonna go on a deleting spree the next few days, and fiddle with some stuff on my days off, and get ready for team color coding, next week...

Woohoo! Did you do anything to celebrate getting all that stuff logged on GR? I saw a bunch of them come up in my GR feed. =) Good job! It's tough to make updates after a year or two. lol

The Hunter

Arcanum Unbounded: The Cosmere Collection
and a few more......
Nice haul! The Parker books by Richard Stark are on Audible +. Up to book 19. =DShort but good crime stories. =)
Legend is good! Drenai Saga is one that I haven't finished. I may join you to re-read Legend. There's publication order and chronological for that one. I keep going back and forth on which order to read it. I usually go by publication order, but a bit torn on this one since David Gemmell skipped around a bit on the timeline.
lol
You say a few more like you're guilty.
Someone should let me know when the release date for the last Red Rising series book comes out. My mini-net search results are that it may come out in 2022. That'll be great! I decided to drop the series until the books were done. I wasn't a fan of #4 and figured I'll be happier when I can read them all vs waiting.
Once there's a release date, I'll probably do a re-read and catch up.
Didn’t really do anything to celebrate… yesterday was a chore day, kinda, and I spread reviews out between other stuff… when done, it was getting late and I just had dinner and bed, really…
Still want to get 100% caught up, with the scavenger hunt… then there’s the 2022 sheet to do, and my Incomplete Series and New Release sheets to update, then I’ll be truly caught up…

That’s what I call trolling all my comments to remember what books I read… and Hoopla/Audible/Kindle listening history…
Soo wrote: "LOL - I was wondering how you were able to remember so much about each book. =D"
Actually... most/all of what I wrote in my reviews is from what I remember of the books... the ones that stuck with me, or that I hated, got more text than the ones I've forgotten, or that didn't stand out...
Trolling my comments is time-consuming... I've commented like 15,000x in this group alone... closer to 20k for all of Goodreads...

I don't even want to know how many posts I made in FBR. I'm sure the highest count is here for me too. Probably 2nd most would be GG&G.The last book for Dark Tower is dragging for me. Not because the story sucks, but mostly due to remembering what I thought when I first read it and processing the story again as an "adult". lol
Perhaps, I'll never be a grown up. Hehehe
This cover for the Dark Tower is very fitting for the book and series:
The rose is a big component in the series, then there's that red sky and the dark tower in the distance.

on browser, you can see your comment count by hovering over your username on a comment... as long as you haven't posted a new comment on the page... then you need to reload to see it again...
I've commented more than any other 2-3 people combined, in the group... altho, mods take up alot of the top 5 commenters, boosted by making all the BR threads and stuff...
You're top 15-30, I think, with 3800 comments...
My numbers come from being talkative, interacting with a ton of people in the group, and doing so many BRs over the past 4 years...

Yeah! I'm at 3802. 3803 with this post. I should chat more in the group, but the moody part of me comes out and I don't always feel like chatting. Like, I joined a few BR's for the tail end. I've commented a little bit, but I don't wanna be the downer in the threads. So, I only posted a little bit. Heh I got the audiobook for Dragonbone Chair & thought I would re-read via audio. I started a few times and I didn't like the tone set by the narrator. Could be my current moods or whatnot, but I'm not enjoying the audio as much as I did when I've read the book. That's another series I've read a few times over the years. Well, mostly when the books were first released.
I quit Dragonbone Chair fairly quickly. Was too slow and never really kept me interested. Maybe someday
I went to check GG&G. I posted more there! 4062. That makes sense though. I've been a part of GG&G for longer and only joined FBR a few years ago.
Brian wrote: "I quit Dragonbone Chair fairly quickly. Was too slow and never really kept me interested. Maybe someday"Audiobook or paperback? I actually love the series, but not so sure about the narration for the audiobook. The audio seems to emphasize different aspects and make it less serious, kinda dumb, etc.
Could be just me. Wasn’t in the mood for it at the start. I am excited for our Vagabond and Mystery buddy reads this year. This is such a fun group
Me too. Lets commiserate and find some good ones. I know I have a bunch with Rob this coming year like the Cradle series and The Shadow Campaign series but I always make your for Narika, Tammie, you, and Iain if we have something we would all like to read.
I'll probably hop on the Cradle train. I re-read the series when a new book comes out. I can easily re-read to hang with friends. =DI should clean up my tracker once we get access to the 2022 Challenge Tracker. I usually copy over my listed books and use it as a way to gauge what to read.
Downside is that I've been slack in logging all the new books. That was intentional. I like having a bit of spin the wheel randomness in my reading jaunts.
Initialization: A LitRPG Adventure - Just finished reading this one. It's on KU. It came across my attention because I was looking for LitRPG/Cultivation/etc audiobooks on Audible. The reviews for it are pretty bad. lol
Then I realized it's a translated Korean webnovel and I was intrigued! I've read Korean comics, but I don't think I've read a Korean webnovel. Most of the light novels I've read are Chinese or Japanese.
- Good translation! Still have some errors but not bad and very readable.
- Solid intro setup for action packed, end of the world, save humanity by becoming the strongest trope. The KU ebook is Ch1-55. The ending seemed abrupt, but it's not that bad. Just wasn't ready for the pages to stop. Considering it's written in an episodic format, the story was at a stopping point. I can read the rest on the translators website! Woo! I don't have to wait for KU or Audible. Hehehe
- Surprised by the cool art that was included in the ebook. Fun snippets of some scenes within the story.
Gonna go back to Wandering Inn Vol6 and wrap that up first. I'm SO close to finishing it! Then I got sidetracked by Master Hunter K. lol
I’m the same about doing BRs with the 5-6 of us… most of my “outside” BRs happen when I want to add a bit more variety or not get too isolationary… join things Charlie/Siobhan are reading, or skim the invite thread…
I'm joining the Cradle train. Zaara is also trying to get a BR or two going. I'll cross post whenever we figure out our next series to read. @Brian - Didn't you want to give the Elenium a try? I could use a comfort reread. First book is The Diamond Throne.
Yup! It's open to anyone in FBR. The core idea for FBR is to make planned Buddy Reads. Makes it possible to plot out your reading and usually make new friends. There are a few of us that enjoy random/on the spur BR's and that's how Vagabond Treehouse Book Club started. Vagabond due to dabbling across genres.

Welcome, but don't force it... we read tons around here, and in the group... try to find something to BR that interests you...
I think BRs can save bad books, but make the good ones better... we love talking about books :D

After Atlas #2 by Emma Newman is on Audible +. It's been on there for a year now. I figured I'd listen to it before it goes poof. I don't think I"m a fan of Emma Newman. She writes depressing characters with very little direction. Another author that is relatively popular in the SF circle, but I'm like... why? lol
Finished the Jane Hawk series today and I am was thrilled with the series overall. Book 4 dragged on a bit but the conclusion was worth the effort. Great female protagonist and Koontz is amazing at developing support characters you care about and bad guys you hate. Overall I was happy I took the chance on the series. Thanks Soo!
Home Stretch!!!
Reviewed and Catalogued the 30-40 books I read since the competition ended...
Now I've come up with a list of 40 books I must have read in November/December 2020, or else I just forgot to include them in the 2020 Competition...
Between the Audible Listen History, Hoopla Borrow History, the date I saved books to ITunes folders, and the books in a series missing between mid-2020 and the first entry on the 2021 sheet (mostly re-read)... quite the Scavenger Hunt ;)

Glad you enjoyed it, Brian! =DSo, I don't think Emma Newman is my cup of tea and I probably won't read her stuff. Her books are depressing and the plots were like a boring flat line.
On the other hand, I'm amused by Netherwings. It's on Audible + and seems to be a fun kid's book.
I do a trio of N-titles:
- Netherwings
- Nightfall (On KU Read & Listen)
- Northwind #1 (New series by JD Kirk/Barry Hutchison)

Ha! Your book record scavenger hunt sounds like more work than mine! I had to check Audible, library, devices and GR to see what I did. Though, if GR deleted a book/story update, I was mostly screwed.
I just thought of checking file info, while I was at it... good thing I did, because I didn't comment much in late 2020...
I just went through and checked the few comments I made, and found 2 books I missed... Alex Verus 11, and my Oathbringer re-read...
100% caught up now...
Now I'm just behind on the 2022 stuff... and a million other projects I could be catching up on...

You could aim to be totally caught up on 2021 by the end of the year. It's work, but it'll be over and you can start with a clean slate.

I'm caught up on Ratings/Reviews...
Next Up is my Incomplete Series tracker, where I need to make sure I've added every series I started, updated, or finished in the past 2 years... and any new releases I missed
That feeds into my New Release tracker... which feeds into the January 2022 challenge, around here...

Dug up my Incomplete Series tracker... quickly figured out I last updated it April 27th, 2020... added a Last Update info at top, so I know at a glance in the future :D
*thumbs up* Yeah, I put in an update date for any record post on here. Like, it's good to know the last time I updated LitRPG/Comic list, etc. Though, I've given up on trying to keep track of series. Every time I start making that list, I get bored/distracted because it doesn't end. I think most of the books I read are a part of a series. XD
I just use GR as my tracker. Look up the book and see what I read, where I left off, what I may have thought of the book, etc.
