Currently on A Civil Campaign and I forgot how interesting and funny it was. =D - Bugs (Hahahahhaha)
- Terraforming to recover land.
- Garden design has a lot of elements to take into account. I don't think people think about these kinds of details, and it's cool to see a bit of it in the story.
- Some of the tech is cool and somewhat outdated within the story, but this book was written before 2000.
- Multiple personality disorder.
- Gender modification.
- The clash of tradition and so called forward moving thoughts/ideas.
- The trials of dating and courtship.
Bujold created a fun story world for the Vorkosigan Saga.
I started Threadbare 3 while cooking for the holiday. Now my husband is mad at me because I hooked him on the series a couple months ago and started without him :D
I read one of the Audible newsletter updates. The reason why the 1st book of Wheel of Time has a new narrator is due to the show being popular. Turns out the narrator is the actress that plays Morraine. So, that's kinda cool.
Nah. I plan to at some point, but I haven't been as interested in watching stuff this year. Me & my phases. =)Anyone watch it yet? Via friends, it seems like those that did not enjoy the books, are enjoying the show. Some said they would try the books again, because of thes show.
I read up to book 4 and lost interest. It seems the plot never really progresses. Good character and some of the story is gripping but I couldn’t see myself reading another 7 books to finish. Maybe after the show I’ll try again
I just did my first audiobook re-read of Wandering Inn Vol3 Part 2 and it was good! I love the way Andrea Parsneau makes the story come to life. =) Gonna go ahead and dive into Vol4, Part1 and then start Cytonic #3 for the BR. Vol4 Pt1 is over 50 hrs. Hahahahhaha
Whew! I just finished Wandering Inn Vol4 Part 1. It was cool to note which parts I enjoyed in audio vs the print. Flos is one of the harder characters for Pirateaba to write and it shows when I read it on the website. It's nice to know that his parts are more fun to take in audio format. Andrea Parsneau does a great job of making the story have more emotion and active vibe. Several of the action scenes were much more exciting in the audio format. I'm planning to make a new thread for us in 2022. =D
We'll have a new thread & probably the same intro. lol
Sounds good... I enjoyed Diplomatic Immunity, as well... haven't read the last couple books again, yet...
So many new books to read... need to get Leviathan Falls... and haven't read Wandering Inn V4.1... etc etc etc...

Got my Spotify 2021 wrap up. I've been lax in trying out new artist/music/etc and put in more effort in the past few months. Listened to 3,582 Artists/Bands
155 Different Genres
Supposedly, the most played genre was punk. Which is kind of funny because the bands that land in punk are also tagged as rock/metal/alt rock. lol
Prepping to continue with Hardluck Hank 4-7 and Gray Man 7-10...
Been awhile since I read either... HLH should be interesting, after the Reset Button at the end of the 3rd book...

Gray Man is good. Hank sounds like fun. =) I'm back to reading comics and listening to a lot of music. Tempted by my current comic to read the light novel that it's based on. I'm sure there are some parts that are getting glossed over in the comic, but I like the art style and the story is equally drama gruesome & layered enough to be interesting.
LOL It took me half an hour to look at my 2021 read list and figure out which books/series/comics that I enjoyed the most. I'm glad I keep a fav list for LitRPG, comic spree and light novels. I'm surprised that I don't have a fav fantasy. Lots of re-reads are scattered in the year.
My fav re-read is Vorkosigan Saga. I feel like the other series I've re-read have been on a regular repeat. I haven't re-read VS in several years.
Down into the last month of 2021 and trying to figure out which books I want to read. If I should bother trying to wrap up Wandering Inn Vol6. I'm almost at the end of that one. I should do it.
I've been putting off Joe Ledger because it makes me sad every time I start it. Hmm
I have lots of chapters to catch up to in the Wandering Inn Vol8. That's the current one. Only way to know if Pirateaba will wrap up Vol8 sooner vs later is to read it. Heh
I have the last books from the library to finish off the Dark Tower re-read. It's been years since I read the series the first time around. Cool to do a re-read by audio. In some ways, I like it more in audio format. Good mix of narrator & writing.
I read Mission Critical, Gray Man 8, this week... and as much as I enjoyed it, it was probably my least favorite in the series so far (maybe)... I'm glad they finally made use of all the CIA assets (Zach Hightower, Court Gentry, and Zoya Zarakova)... and that car chase scene was great, felt like a movie... and the threat was pretty good...
But by like the 5th time Zoya just walked into enemy hands and became a hostage, I was like "really?!?"... the baddie was (view spoiler) so it made some sense, but it was really frustrating... and Suzanne Brewer needs to die in a fire, already :D
Joined the Wayward Children BR... caught up on the Vlad Taltos BR... doing Chronicles of St. Mary's BR with Siobhan and Charlie in the Last Minute thread (bit behind)... back to being overbooked :D
Still need to make time for Vol6 before we restart with Vol1 next year... I just kinda picked Gray Man/Orphan X as a fave because it was one of the few I could think of... might change when I check spreadsheet... best books have epic endings that give me cinematic chills :D

Updated signup, and left hitmen as my fave series, but added T. Kingfisher and Alex Bledsoe as favorite new authors of 2021...
If you updated GR with your books, you could use the Reading Challenge to see the covers of your books. ;)I used the Reading Challenge and my favorite shelf to see what I should post. Favorite shelf works more or less, but not a good indicator for overall enjoyment.
It's sad that there were many books on the read list that did not leave much of an impression on me. lol
Hmm, I didn't add comics that I started & didn't enjoy as much. If I added those and some of the smexy ones, it would be probably be twice as long. Hahah
OH yeah! It was a nice happenstance that I saw Narilka added The Broken Room by Peter Clines. We should read that when it comes out. =D

I want to get caught up on GR by the end of the year... we'll see how much making the 2022 spreadsheet hinders that plan...
I put a dent into 2020... 2021 should be easier, with half as many books... and a fair bit of re-reads...

I'm in... even if I'm a bit sad this isn't a Threshold book... title made me think back to 14, maybe?... nope... still sounds interesting...

Good luck! I hope more people sign up for the Challenge. Though, to be honest, I talk more about it with you guys than anywhere else. Heh, I guess I'll be talking about my fav/bad books with ya'll regardless of the challenge. =D
I'm excited for challenge mainly because it forces me to read books I might not have gotten too or even known about. Very true that mostly I enjoy talking books with y'all. It's a fun group.
I thought the “Book of Flos” was long when I noticed it was 8-9hrs… then I realized that’s at 2x speed already, so more like 16-18hrs of the 53hr book…
=D Agreed, Brian!Iain, I thought I'd be bored with the Flos portions and it was much better in audio format. Yay for Andrea Parsneau's narration!
Yea... for all I complain a bit, I'm engaged... and I'm gonna wonder more about it, once we move away and focus on the 100 other storylines again...
Flos is a sympathetic character, even with his kinda shitty backstory (the angry people have a point about being abandoned)... or when saying Hitler was a good leader (terrible person)... gonna be interesting when storylines collide...

I made a mistake of updating one of my browsers that used to be my main browser... kinda become secondary in recent times, but had the largest amount of my passwords saved... and the update wiped all passwords... of the ones that mattered, half I only logged into once or twice a year to pay a bill... of the more commonly used ones, I think chrome know my password... luckily... since they're also randomized gibberish passwords from a generator... but it's still going to cause me headaches for the next few weeks, I think...
Only upside is that it gives me impetus to return to Firefox as my secondary browser... I originally moved away from it because it had become laggy with visible stuttering from overuse or something... but I think I resolved that, years ago now...

You have a PC or Apple? Firefox and Opera are my main browsers and I don't have an issue with either of them.
I HAD Apple phones for years... now I have Applie iPod, Motorola phone, and PC...
This issue was on PC... I used Chrome and Palemoon primarily... Palemoon has been going downhill for awhile... should have transitioned back to Firefox sooner... now I gotta try and recover...
I replace Safari with Chrome on phone...

Great series... there's at least 3-4 people around here ready to read the finale... Charlie already responded in the BR invite thread, and search results said Brittany read #11 at least as far back as August...
I wonder what updates are happening for GR? Lots of error messages and stuff. Lame.Iain, you should hold off on reading Cytonic. Thus far, I'd have to say that was the worst story I've read by Sanderson. It wasn't as well written as it should have been. This part of the story deals a lot with abstract setting and I don't think Sanderson was able to pull it off. To me, it seemed like Sanderson wasn't sure about how to write it and that came across in the story.
There are cute things and a few fanciful ideas that are fun, but it was not as well done as other books. Plus, another transition piece.
I wondered if I should wait for the final book with Cytonic...
And GR wasn't the problem today, Amazon was, and their AWS (Amazon Web Services/Servers) that run the internet... GR seems like it was a low priority fix... I hear Alexa and Netflix and tons of site were half functional all day...

Amazon had a major outage today. The US East 1 environment went hard down and it caused ripples. They even felt it in Europe. Tons of major sites were wobbly all day.
Yeah, I figured it was Amazon. There were glitches on there today, but it wasn't completely out like GR. Sometimes, I feel like we should form another way to stay in touch. lol
I'd miss ya'll!
Saw the news yesterday. The Lost Metal has a release date! Nov 15, 2022!!!https://read.macmillan.com/lp/the-los...
Which means I'll be reading Mistborn Era 2 next year to catch up. Plus the short story, A Secret History. Can one of you confirm I should put Secret History last after Book 3?
Edit to add I also need to read the Eleventh Metal short story. Is that readable out of order?
I think Eleventh Metal is a Kelsier short prequel before the first First Era book?
Secret History can be read after Bands of Mourning, book 3 of Era 2...
Good news about Lost Metal... been waiting like 5 years for that now...
