Emma | meadowroselibrary That really is aggravating about them thinking Charlie Brown that way. It must be too good of a show for people these days.

Well, at the risk of being politically incorrect, I'll tell you what it said online. The fact that Charlie Brown only has one friend of color, which is Franklin, is inappropriate. On the Thanksgiving special, Franklin is seated at the picnic table, on a lawn chair across from the other characters, and that is is inappropriate. The Christmas Special is inappropriate because it is called a Christmas special instead of a "winter holiday" special. Also, the entire Christmas Special is focused on the birth of Jesus Christ, which is politically incorrect. Newsflash..."Christ"mas IS about Jesus' birth, like it or not.

I have no idea why the Great Pumpkin is offensive. Perhaps because the Great Pumpkin is overweight? Oops, I should say "weight-challenged." Or, perhaps it's because Charlie Brown gets rocks in his Trick-or-Treat bag instead of candy. Who knows? Things are really getting out of hand.

Political Correctness is basically censorship, in my opinion. I'm not attacking anything or anyone, but isn't there a fine line between censorship and Communism? Forgive my bluntness, but many of my friends and family members fought against that...a few of them died fighting against it. Have we, as a so-called civilized society, forgotten all about that?

Dwight D. Eisenhower, my favorite President, said it best when he said "Extremes to the right and to the left of any political dispute are always wrong."

That's all I have to say about that...for now.

Pammy Jo

Emma | meadowroselibrary That is so sad.

Ruth (misselizabethbennett) | 2502 comments Infuriating Madness!
Charlie Brown is a tradition, it represents
innocence and family.
What the network did was sold away old
fashioned values in the name of political
correctness.

Be blunt, Pammy!
I'm sick of the p.c. movement telling people
with with decency, values, morality their wrong,
trying intimidating them from speaking up and
taking away individuality with homogenized
thinking. "Don't tread on me!"🐍

I know the one you refer to, Meg. The "Gadsden Flag" used by the Continental Marines during the American Revolution..."Don't Tread On Me!" With a rattlesnake beneath those words.

Pamela | 2209 comments I wanted to share this yesterday, but forgot. My mom and I went grocery shopping and we got in the checkout line with our cart full of groceries. A man came up behind us with his arms full of groceries and no cart. My mom and I turned around and told him to go ahead of us, feeling bad that he had his arms full. He didn't want to at first, but then he finally agreed to go ahead of us.

Meanwhile, another checkout opened and the clerk told us to go there. My mom and I started putting our groceries on the conveyer and then the man we had told to go ahead of us came over and stood at our checkout lane. He told the clerk not to finalize our sale yet because he wanted to pay for our groceries! He did just that! He said he appreciated our kindness in letting him go in front of us and he wanted to repay us! With tears in my eyes, I told him I have serious health issues and my mom supports me and it was such a blessing that he paid our grocery bill. He had tears then, too, and said he was especially glad to pay for our groceries, knowing that. He said "God Bless both of you!" I am still emotional about it this morning.

God really does put Angels in our path when we need it most. Anyway, it was the kind of situation that shows us there are still kind and Godly people around us!

Pammy Jo

Joanna Well, Emma already knows about this, but I decided to tell the rest of you...I'm just about dying right now! 🤣 I was just reading a verse from a beautiful poem in 'The Country Diary of an Edwardian Lady' and was googling the first line to see if I could find the rest of it. Well, it starts out "Like as the thrush..." and when I typed that much the suggested search said, "Like as the thrush, but not itchy"! 🤦🏻‍♀️🤣

Pamela | 2209 comments I received a notice late last night that one person is "following" me on goodreads. I checked it out because I was curious who it might be. The individual has 0 friends. Has 0 books listed. The unnerving thing is that when I checked to see who it was, I was inadvertently linked to a completely inappropriate site! I was shocked, as that has never happened to me on goodreads. Has that ever happened to anyone else? I feel as though I no longer want to use Goodreads.

Well, I won't be on Goodreads much for a while. I'm not pleased about it. I have also decided to cut down on my activity with some Groups. I will be leaving a few entirely. I like to spend time on Goodreads to relax and get some enjoyment out of participating. I feel that some groups are not conducive to that. I like to read what I enjoy and not to be made to feel "required" to read certain books and participate if it doesn't interest me. That's happening on some other groups.

Have a good day!🤗

Pamela

Hi Pammy,
The same thing happened to me last year.
I had to block the reprobate.
Another degenerate was using his widower
status to collect women as a dating service.
He had the temerity to be upset because I
rejected his letter of introduction.
Flag and block them. G.R. will take notice
if they find more women are flagging and
blocking the same person.
The best thing to do to safeguard yourself,
and screen people, is to change your settings
to private and on friend invites add a question
(i.e.Why do you want to be my friend) and
accept friends that are in your group- at least
there is a history of that member.
Don't let them frighten you off the very thing
that has brought you new friends.
"Don't Tread on Me" is a strong message for this age.

message 4348: by Pamela (new)

Pamela | 2209 comments I just removed them. I didn't see anything about flagging.

message 4349: by Pamela (new)

Pamela | 2209 comments I'm still going to go quiet for a time. Too much drama. I have enough of that in everyday life. This used to be the place I came to for pleasant distractions. No longer the case.
Pamela

Joanna So sorry to hear this, Pammy Jo. I recently changed my profile settings to private, so I don't think anyone can follow me anymore anyway (I do have followers from before I set it to private but they all seem to be legitimate people with similar book tastes).
