Joanna We visited the old Pioneer Cemetery in Warren, OH (my dad's hometown). The grandson of Jonathan Edwards, the Puritan preacher famous for his terrifying sermon Sinners in the Hands of an Angry God, is buried here!

This is interesting, Meg.
These are good pictures.
I haven"t heard of Edwards- yes, I know.

I've only seen a few brief extracts from the sermon, but supposedly it was so terrifying that some in the congregation fainted! It is mentioned in the book I'm reading now (The American Spirit in Literature), and it is said that Edwards didn't even raise his voice as he read it.

Pamela,
The fact that nobody wanted her, due to
her disability, is because Clara was always
meant to be yours.
She would not be an ordinary pet, she would
watch over you to save your life.
That is amazing!

Well I guess it wasn't too scary then! 😂 (But it would be if one really believed it!)

Joanna We got a new bookshelf today! Here's part of my library...I got the 10-volume poetry set on the last trip. I was admiring one of the volumes but assuming they would be way out of our price-range, when a guy came up and told me I could have them all for $4! I don't think my dad was too happy. 😂

message 860: by Ruth (new)

Ruth (misselizabethbennett) | 2502 comments Meg,
Books!!! You have such a great collection of books.
That was a fantastic opportunity, perhaps the guy was
eager to get rid of them. What volumes did you get?
At the rate you are going, you will need another room
for your lovely books.😁📖📓📚📚📚📚📚📚📚📚📚

Thanks Ruth! 😊 I got all 10 volumes. They were printed in 1904.
Haha, yes that's what I said to my dad when he asked where I was going to put them...we'll just have to add on another room for a library! 😁

I love it Emma! Too bad I do not know how to crochet! Quite often my kitchen chairs look like they're wearing socks b/c cat hair sticks to them like a magnet no matter how often I dust!

Lol! I don't crochet as often as I used to, but I do still occasionally. That's actually how I found this pattern, I'm getting ready to start a project and I was looking for a pattern, but got sidetracked by this! 😂❤️

How would you like a tour

This a botanical garden based on
the characters of Little Women-
perhaps some inspiration.

Dear Meg and her first love.
Somehow I picture you in just such a cozy room,
dedicated to your books.📚📚📚❤

message 871: by Pamela (new)

Pamela | 2209 comments Did you know that Orchard House was reproduced almost exactly for the most recent theatrical release of Little Women? It was built on an estate in Concord, not far from the actual Orchard House. The only changes were made to accomodate the cameras and other filming demands. I saw a wonderful documentary about the film on PBS late last year and really enjoyed it!

Pamela | 2209 comments Comet Neowise News:
Our local weather channel reports that the comet should be visible in my area tonight at about 9:30 and should be in the sky here for about 20 minutes! I'm excited and will try and see it! They say the comet peaks tonight and will be at it's brightest!!!! Oh, I sure hope I catch a good view tonight. I'm taking my binoculars with me even though it is supposed to be visible to the naked eye. (I often wondered why they say "the naked eye"....should my eyes be dressed?) ; )

How long ago did you see it? They said that earlier in the month it was visible in the early morning hours and now it's visible in the evening.

Thanks Pammy Jo! It is a Japanese morning glory (Ipomoea nil) which is a bit different than the more common Ipomoea purpurea. There are so many amazing varieties with huge flowers, stunning colors and even variegated leaves. Not that many people in the US grow or have even heard of them, but those of us that do are addicted! 😍
Oh, I've got a Moonflower vine as well! It's my first time growing it, and there's a bud that should open in the next couple of nights!
