MountainKat | 31599 comments The Amazing Race Team Challenge
April 11, 2020 through June 9, 2020
8 Week Dash For the Win!

Challenge Dates:
Signups open until April 11, 2020 at 9 PM US EDT.
Remaining Teams Assigned after signups close on April 11, 2020.
First Task Assigned April 14, 2020 at 6 PM US EDT.
Challenge Ends on June 9, 2020 at Midnight US EDT, tasks will not be accepted after this time.

Each team will work together to complete tasks. Once complete, you will be given another task to complete. After the first task, teams will be on different paths with tasks randomly assigned. The same tasks may be assigned to different teams at different times, but no task will be used more than once by the same team. Each team works at their own pace and the team that completes the most tasks at the end of 8 weeks will be the winner!

After the first task is given to everyone, when a team finishes their task they will need to report their completion in the Tracking/Q&A thread. I will confirm the completion and assign their next task. New tasks will not be assigned more frequently than every other day. I will attempt to respond quickly to confirm completion and assign new tasks, but please allow up to 24 hours. If I am unavailable, another mod will assign the task.

Each teammate will need to participate in each task, but may take a pass for one task during the course of the challenge. For some tasks, no passes will be allowed. Completions posts will need to be made when finishing each book for a task, similar to the PtP and Bachelor Challenges. A player will be removed if they make no comment for 5 days after a new task is assigned or 3 days after the rest of the team completes the task (whichever is later), despite attempts to make contact.

MountainKat | 31599 comments I think most of you know each other, at least a little, but feel free to introduce yourself again. Please give any relevant information, especially time zone as that helps know when it is best to communicate. 😊

Please select a team leader to help keep track of where your team is in any given task. And as necessary guide discussions for task decisions. Any teammate can report your completions though.

PS - If you want to be known as anything other than Team 13, you are free to come up with a team name. 😉

Trip (shardsofromance) | 2210 comments Hey! Looking forward to this challenge, should be a lot of fun. I'm from England so I'm aware timezones can suck, but I'm fairly active and check here constantly. Hope everyone's doing well in these times? Also anyone keen on being Leader? Or team names, my mind went straight to Unlucky 😂

Jo * Smut-Dickted * (josmut-dickted) | 332 comments Hi Laura and all!

I'm in the Bay Area in CA. I try to check a lot but this is the first time I'll have 4 challenges going at the same time (OIY!). I'm Captaining for SH so probably could not take on additional work now. I'm remote working but that still means working - happy to have a great company and job.

Team Names - I've never watched the show (don't prefer reality or contestant based TV shows and I only just got local cable here due to the COVID-19 so I could figure out what was happening - otherwise no TV for me. I was happy my TV still worked as I hadn't turned it on for many months - the life of a reading addict ) so is there anything that makes sense based on the TV show?

And for clarity if the task is say read 8 books, we each need to read 1 and the other 4 can be read by anyone or we each need to read 2? I was not sure with the rules as they are not always the same amount as the number of team members.

message 8: by Trip (new)

Trip (shardsofromance) | 2210 comments Hey Jo, that's understandable. I'm currently captain for ptp and am in too many challenges to count... I am weak when it comes to a great theme and I've fell in love with team tasks lately too so I jumped onto this one quick.

Lol I didn't realise it was a TV show 😂 So I'm not sure either, I haven't heard of it before now.

I think we all need to read at least 1 for the task, but after that it's whoever so someone could read extra 1 or 2 or we could all read 2. Same for when we have to reach a certain pg count, I'm pretty sure we all have to read at least one and after that it's whoever wants too or does first.

Trip (shardsofromance) | 2210 comments Looking at the tasks again, MK does say they are just an example of what tasks could be provided so there may be others not listed. Also says rule to each task will be explained more when given to team.

Im currently with Sunshine for Ptp, although I have seen Jo and Elizabeth around groups 😊

I looked up some team names based around race, I liked these but I'm never sure when it comes to names so I'm fine with any.

Are we there yet?
Not fast, Just furious

Elizabeth (elizabeth_greece) | 1918 comments Hi everyone,
I've only played with Sunshine before, but I've seen Jo around for years in MM group challenges.
I live in Greece (GMT+2), I'm only doing PtP at the moment, so I could captain if no one else would like to.
I don't know this Amazing Race show, but I read a book a few years ago that was something like that, so I had to check it. I think Laura is correct regarding the tasks and who is reading what, although I'll have to check the rules later.
I'm not good with names, I think it isn't necessary to pick one, but maybe Sunshine have some suggestions.
Looking forward to start this challenge!

Laura wrote: "Looking at the tasks again, MK does say they are just an example of what tasks could be provided so there may be others not listed. Also says rule to each task will be explained more when given to ..."

Good job, Laura! I'm useless with names.
Are we there yet? is my favorite, followed closely by Not fast, Just furious.

Thanks! I put them in order of the one I liked most too. Are we there yet? Is my favourite and I thought Not fast, Just furious is rather fun xx

Reading is definitely the perfect escape, I've read more in the past week or two then I usually would in a month I think 😂

Not Fast, Just furious

Jo * Smut-Dickted * (josmut-dickted) | 332 comments I'm good with either of those names. All are excellent!! Truly either would be fun to have :)

I am excited to start this -I love new challenges!!

message 18: by Elizabeth (new)

Elizabeth (elizabeth_greece) | 1918 comments I think we should go with Not Fast, Just furious for a name, since three of us like it and Jo is good with either name.

Trip (shardsofromance) | 2210 comments Sounds good to me Not fast, Just Furious 😊

I can't wait too start this one, it seems very different and interesting so I'm looking forward to it. Shall we discuss some of the options now? Or shall we just wait to see what tasks we get and decide once they show up x

Jo * Smut-Dickted * (josmut-dickted) | 332 comments Laura I had wondered as well - it's going to be interesting to see what the first call is and how it works out!

message 21: by Trip (last edited Apr 09, 2020 04:06PM) (new)

Trip (shardsofromance) | 2210 comments Yeah I think shall just see what task comes up and figure out as we go, unless anyone wants to discuss in advance but I think it's not too much of a worry as don't know till we see first call. Though might be good idea to discuss definite dislikes or won't read topics, could be helpful for later xx

MK said as long as everyone's checked in, may announce the tasks early 😊

message 22: by Trip (last edited Apr 10, 2020 11:00AM) (new)

Trip (shardsofromance) | 2210 comments Well I'm excited to start this challenge and since waiting to start anyway, I figured be interesting to see everyone's views of different tasks even if we don't get them. So I've put these here and feel free to post your own too xx

1. Each player reads a book by the same author, teams decide author - no pass for this task.
I don't personally look at authors often, although definitely some I love. So i'm open to trying any although not keen on Lily Morton or AE Via at the moment, also Eli Easton. They have all been hit and miss for me though so I might give a try x

9. Read 6 books in the same sub-genre, teams decide.
I'm open to majority, except for horror or tragedy which I avoid.

25. Each player reads a book in a series, teams decide. No pass for this task.
I've got a bunch of series on my tbr and open to new ones.

51. Each teammate reads a book published in the same month and year, teams decide. No pass for this task.
Im thinkinh either early release like Jan or mid year july/August for gummer or we go christmas/Thanksgiving lots in November. Also maybe newer so 2018/19.

52. Read 6 books set in the same location, teams decide the location.
Im not sure where would be good for this one, there too many...

53. Each teammate reads a different book by the same author, no pass for this task.
Again I'm no good with Authors, so I'm open to any.

55. Pick another team and each member reads one book that was read by a member for this challenge. No pass for this task.
I mean I figure we go for another m/m group, maybe team 1 or 9?

56. Read 6 books with the same color cover, teams decide color.
Im thinking Black or Brown, something dark I think would be good. But I'm open to any xx

57. Each teammate reads a book set in one of your teammates' home town, no pass for this task.
I highly doubt find any in my hometown, mines within Kent in England but don't think any books focus in my hometown.

58. Read a minimum of 750 pages in books published in any one year prior to 2018, team picks the year.
I feel like more recent is better so I'd go for 2016 or 17

59. Read 4 books published in the decade of a teammate's birth, team decides which teammate.
I'm the 90s.

60. Read 6 books set on a beach or in the mountains, teams decide which.
Beach seems easier

61. Read a minimum of 1500 pages in books by the same author, teams decide author.

62. Read 6 books published in a teammates' birth month, you may not use your own month.
I'm July

63. Read over 1000 pages in books that start with the same letter (no articles), teams decide letter.
T or A?

65. Read 6 books set in the same country outside the US, teams decide country.
New Zealand, England or Australia?

66. As a team, pick a list with over 100 romance books on it, each member reads a book from that list. No pass for this task.
Tbh I think so many options in m/m group so should be easy find.

67. Read 6 books with a specific item on the cover, team selects item.
Shirt? Jewellery?

68. Read a minimum of 1000 pages in books written by an author whose first or last name begins with the first letter of a teammate's screen name.
I feel like E or S be the best for this.

69. Read over 750 pages in books about the same profession, teams decide which profession.
Bodyguard?

73. Read 6 books published in the year one of the teammates joined RRRC, teams decide which teammate.
I joined 2019

75. Read 6 books that have the same romance trope, teams decide which trope.
Friends or enemies to lovers? Fake relationship?

52. London or New York sounds good to me

56. Blue I've got a lot for too I think, also somehow yellow or gold. Tbh any colour I'm sure can find something for.

59. I've got nothing before 2000, so I'm probably have to go hunting whatever we decide on this one. Or I might have a m/f on this task.

60. I'm fine with either, just thought Beach would be easier as plenty of summer themed and beach house books I know. Wouldn't know where to start looking for mountains, although I prefer those xx

69. I like P. I, maybe detective or spy?

L: I don't personally look at authors often, although definitely some I love. So i'm open to trying any although not keen on Lily Morton or AE Via at the moment, also Eli Easton. They have all been hit and miss for me though so I might give a try x

Trip (shardsofromance) | 2210 comments 53 and 1. Are basically the same, except for 1 we can all read the same book if we want, while 53 we all have to read different

52. Good question, Sunshine I just presumed country's or such. Be good to ask MK if can be set in a building or work place, I don't read much young adult or books that take place in schools these days... College or uni maybe?

57. Oh Chicago could be great xx

62. Lol so Elizabeth you get July and the rest of us have December then 😂

67. I'm not a huge cowboy fan, very hit or miss for me... I can probably be persuaded though xx

69. So I think we are leaning towards law enforcement with police, detectives and such. Sounds good to me xx

Trip (shardsofromance) | 2210 comments Yay!

I think so far we got NO to Tj klune, Lily Morton, AE Via, Lucy Lennox and Eli Easton...

Options I'm just throwing a few Mary Calmes, NR Walker, Lyn Gala, Alice Winters, Keira Andrews?

I'm open to any really though, as I don't tend to stick to authors specifically and more look at genres/books if interest me.

message 30: by Elizabeth (last edited Apr 12, 2020 11:44PM) (new)

Elizabeth (elizabeth_greece) | 1918 comments Any of the authors mentioned by Laura would work for me, except for Alice Winters. I'm adding Eden Finley, I 've got a couple of books I'd like to read. Maybe those of you doing SH could pick, since you've already picked books to read for the rest of the month.
Please remember there's a 150 pg minimum for books we pick.

message 31: by Sunshine (last edited Apr 13, 2020 03:46AM) (new)

Sunshine (sunshine22222) | 935 comments My preference for this task would be Mary Calmes or NR Walker

We should hurry up and pick, since all teams have this choice

message 32: by Trip (last edited Apr 13, 2020 04:08AM) (new)

Trip (shardsofromance) | 2210 comments Well if Jo is alright with it I'd say NR Walker 😊 I seem to have read a lot of the Mary Calmes ones that interest me.

I've read all my SH books already so now I'm just looking to see if can switch out some for better points.

message 33: by Elizabeth (new)

Elizabeth (elizabeth_greece) | 1918 comments I've got more N.R Walker than Mary Calmes books that I haven't read at the moment, so I'm ok with it.

message 34: by Trip (new)

Trip (shardsofromance) | 2210 comments I'm glad and thanks!

I kind of just picked some random names from what I've read recent. I knew there was a couple of NR Walkers that interested me, I enjoyed one of Mary's recent books but looking through not many others interest me at the moment.

So hopefully Jo will like NR Walker too xx
