Karin | 799 comments Selina-- do you mean God's Smuggler? My husband has that--I couldn't find that other title, but my husband's is by one man who did this, so it might not be the same.

I agree about The Hiding Place: The Triumphant True Story of Corrie Ten Boom re WW II

I have found that browsing the profiles of people in this group, particularly their “shelves” has led me To some great books. Looking at other people’s “read” and “want to read” shelves has led me to sooooo MANY wonderful books.

Have added your book to my “to read” shelf. Be good to read a book set in a South American country That I don’t normally hear about

Rebecca | 25 comments Selina Thanks for taking the time to reply with some recommendations, must appreciated. The hiding place looks like the book I was hoping for, so I’ll start there, although the other ideas are great too

message 116: by VinitaF (new)

VinitaF | 45 comments Hi I’m Vinita, I have gravitated towards autobiography and memoir over the last few years and find them the most satisfying type of book to read but I do read other fiction and non fiction as well. I’m a clinical pharmacist and I also like textile arts and crafts, painting and being outdoors

Paul Douglas Lovell (powerpuffgeezer) | 4 comments Looking for attention (aren't we all)... My anti-hero memoirs, written with optimism and humour, show the results of abandonment, poverty and abuse BUT without dwelling, too much. Set in the 70s 80s & 90s as three stand alone tales... There are lessons, messages and I suppose advice written between the lines. Tailored mostly for an audience 50+ or people with an interest in historical, British working-class culture. Please excuse the self-made covers, I used my funds to hire an editor. Empty Corridors Learning to Fail

Have a lovely day , wishing you and yours all the best. PDL

My name is Brenda and as life is more interesting than fiction, I like to keep it real, so enjoy memoirs.

I notice that this site hasn't had a lot of activity and good questions have not been answered. I, too, would like to know what a beta reader is.

For those in NZ writing about NZ topics, Flaxroots provides a way to have your book reviewed.

Wow there are some talented authors on this blog, but fewer readers methinks? Maybe indie authors hope other indie authors will help out, but it is not clear how. Something for Goodreads to think about?

Brenda Greene | 8 comments Hallo from Brenda
I live in Christchurch, which reminds me of Auckland, where I previously lived, 20 years ago. I've worked for national, regional and local government in a range of roles: education, planning, technical, strategy, filing :) and am about to start a new job at Canterbury University. Over the past decade I've worked part time so that I could oversee the repair of our earthquake damaged home. We moved back home after a 4 year repair and are now enjoying accessing all of our stuff, having friends over etc. Spring here is stunning with leaves and flowers bursting with colour.

Hey everybody. My name's Jasmin and I'm thirty-three years old who comes from and lives in Slovenia. The reason why I am here, why I joined this very large group is because I am avid reader of all kinds of biographies, all kinds of autobiographies, and all kinds of memoirs I can find, and because I'd like to meet people like yourself who are just like me. XD So feel free. Blessings

Kit | 93 comments Hi All!
It occurs to me I missed introducing myself before jumping into threads. I’m Kit and I read loads of different types of books. I’ve read memoirs and autobiographies from young. I like hearing about different people’s journeys. Also sometimes you can get a history of the times they lived through too.
This area really seems to be exploding in recent years!
Look forward to talking books here with you all!
Kit

Jill Dobbe | 3 comments Hello all, I am an avid member of GR and just found this group, which is right up my alley! I write travel memoirs about schools and countries I've lived and worked in as an intl educator. (My books are more about surviving and enjoying different cultures rather than about the schools, but there are some). I hope to learn about other authors and their memoirs.

My husband an I just released out first book, a true story/memoir called 'Lost in Beirut'. Sharon Hoseley | 11 comments My Bridge Stories begin in 1910 with my mother's struggles growing up in rural central Idaho, (A Bridge Named Susan). They continue in the 1940's sharing the many influencers of my formative years (Crossing the Bridge) and will continue to reflect the positive and negative affects of those around me in A Bridge of my Own (recently sent to my editor) We don't walk our life bridges alone. We must love, be kind, respect and encourage. Give much, expect much.
